My surgeon told me this morning that I'd never ski again, or hike for that matter. But that I could take up golf. I was really tempted to tell him to "go fuck your self and never say 'never' to me." But then just spent the morning all broken down thinking 37 is too young for this, until manning up and deciding to fight this to the end and believe I can get back out there. Maybe he's just pissed that I decided to fly to seattle tomorrow to go to another surgeon who has more experience with this fracture.
Anyhow, apologies for the anti-stoke here. Just figured you all would understand. Now that I cant get out of bed I'll try and edit some footage for your pleasure.

Haven't checked in in a while, but glad to have a nice food recommendation close to my new workplace - will definitely check out Jimmy's.

I have been getting a world-class pulled pork here on a weekly basis

Anyways...back to the stoke. Kick some ass himavan.

Fuckem' Seems to be a common go to response from them or some thing. Find some thing to keep your mind occupied if possible.

take his info as this is what will happen, if you dont really try hard at rehab.

After my crash (sept 21) I was told I might ski easy green/blue runs in the spring. I did one run, nov 2nd. My skiing has changed, and what I need to do before and after is different (more stretching, less beer) but with some hard work, and changes it is possible..

    hang in, keep trying.

imo 18 holes (or even 9) is way more strenuous then hiking. On a hike you get cool air, shade, wind and dont have to carried 50 pounds of clubs. So if you'll be playing golf, you'll be hiking. And if he's wrong about that hten you'll be skiing. I would have reacted the exact same way.. as in.. fuck that. Just make hte next little while all about proving your doctor wrong.

Edit: I'd be prone to rushing the recovery in your shoes... Just stay positive (easy for me to say, truth is I'd be really down if it were me) and keep busy any way you can.

Should probably mention that there was no shortage of new crowns from shortly passed Sask crossing up to Parkers. North facing alpine and some at treeline on lowish angled terrain in openings between sparse trees and in horizontal open areas in bands of trees. Some of them propogated really far across slope...several hundred metres across. Also pulled over on the way home to watch 4 different slides out of steep rocky solar aspects all of them in the span of about 10 minutes.

In the couple of spots I checked quick by ridge top by tromping on convex rolls / windlips there was actually 2 seperate buried surface hoar layers near ridge top, only one of which was mentioned in the avy report but didn't get in to looking for the second layer in other spots. North low alpine CTM16 (also a hasty moderate shear on same layer = planar break) and CTH21 (pencil hard slab), both CT tests came out sudden planar. HS at test was 210cm but generally quite variable for depth in the area thin on ridge type features and rolls in to slopes etc. Both SH layers reacted very easily on a couple of minor lee test slopes under cornices. Definately wasn't comfortable getting on to the larger steeper options yet.

If you're doing backside Ozone at KH skip Hourglass and Xmas chute. Snow has come off the surrounding rocks and has filled them both with death cookies. Everything south of the Hourglass was still good.

I had a great trip! Ended up going to castle even though I was short on time. Didn't have to pay for a lift ticket so I thought even if I only get a couple runs, at least I can see it. Wound up going up the chair with Wilf, who's skied there for 40 years (I had impecable timing on my whole trip). He took me to the south for 1 run and to the north for the other. Snow was heavy- it was a sunny afternoon- but the terrain looks great and I definitely want to go back.

after a few rounds of golf down south, im about ready to get back on the sticks. anybody want to do some SSV/LL slack this week?

K-country looks like it would be a later-in-the-week kinda thing. Fx calls for rain today .

My guess would be golf cart+ handicap flag means minimal walking. That and golf courses typically dont have the kind of hills you would find when hiking (unless your playing Silvertip)

Tanner Hall blew up both his ankles in 2005, then both his knees (plus tip fibs I believe) in 2009 and is back slaying harder than ever now (through an insane amount of hard work toward recovery). It's possible, keep hope alive and stay positive.

Damn fuckin right. Just because your doc's given up on life doesn't mean you have to.

Thanks fellas! And I'm not giving up one bit! Surgeon here in seattle is way more positive too. I'll be back out there one of these days. had another surgery today - so weird to see more fat pins drilled into my femur/tibia through my quads. The big surgery is coming up later in the week. I'm reall f'ed up on lots of narcotics (morphine and dilaudid) and other things, but kinda dissappointed that theyre no fun. Pain level is ridiculous despite them. Was thankful for the anasthsesia this afternoon just to get some sleep.
Keep the stoke coming! Everyone around me thinks i'm nuts or should be depressed by watching ski vids - but seeing you guys having awesome pow days and hucking stuff truly puts a smile on my face.

Awesome! Glad you're getting the support and treatment you need... though maybe some local can find you something stronger (and more fun) than morphine while you recover from surgery.
Goal: ski in the 2018/19 season

Another bring the camera day....I should have brought my camcorder to film the ample face shots. Fucking sweet, very fucking sweet.

    Steep skin track stoke

Ridge feature seperating the 2 runs, first one down to the ridge then off left

2nd run straight down throught the toilet

Then we went just right of that

    woooooot

Not skiing related but with all the recent snow I doubt anyone is thinking of hanging up the skis yet and hanging out in the Sprocket Rockets forum. Fair enough, it'll still be two or three weeks before the first trails (Mtn. Shadows) open up around Golden. Although the high school kids are already up there shovelling off 3k (Mt. 7).

Here's a post from the Golden Cycling Club's Facebook page to lighten up a Tuesday eve....

Events Night: Free Film along with food, beer and club talk (new trails, volunteer trail days, etc.).
Off the Rails: An Epic Adventure... 14 months, 10,000kms, Moscow to Beijing by pedal power. Tuesday, April 3 at the Golden Civic Centre. Free admission. Doors open at 6:15pm
Last edited by goldenshowers; 03-28-2012 at 08:13 AM. Reason: added props to high school kids labour efforts

    *crickets*

....the best part of ski season is just starting....all the weekend warriors are pretty much done after this weekend, hills will be empty, more powder to be had and the best lines are yet to come in to shape. Biking already? WTF?
