Fernie was pretty epic today. The first few runs in the morning felt like absolute heaven, and even through the rest of the day, was able to find snow stashes here and there, and soft all around. Thanks to the snow gods for blessing me this week.

Doubt I can give you a definite time as I am picking up Calgary Rob and dragging out a sled and trailer from Calgary. I would say either 10ish at the base or maybe do laps on stairway till we see you? Maybe you can shoot me your cell and I can text you when we get there?
    Man, It was great...

Out of curiosity, does Soul carry the Line brand, or any other smaller time ski brands like Faction, DSP or Fat-ypus?

There is primitive makeshift shelter back there if you're thinking of heading to the other side (Similar to "Nicole's Not Allowed" just south at the 'cliff' at the bottom of Terminator run). We ski down Canyon Creek, tour up those peaks you gaze at longingly from the ski hill, ski the shit out of them and head to the shelter when dark approaches, spend the night and skin up to the ski hill the next morning. It took us a while to locate it in January, I should've taken notes or gps rather than trusting other people instincts. I haven't been back there since Feb but Canyon Creek can get sun crusted pretty bad this time of year, although we haven't had any sun of late.

You must be talking about on the far side of the ski hill. Heading down the backside of the hill and up the other side is more my idea of a whole lot of work. Those peaks are awful enticing though.

We hiked the moonraker trails to Canyon Creek. I was actually thinking you went to the same place for a minute, because we found a makeshift camp at the bottom of the creek. It's a pretty decent thing to do on an off-day, and there was a rain crust that supported my weight, so you didn't need snowshoes or xc skis.

    It gets pretty deep

    2) what every you think you can do, do 1/2 that amount, but do it twice. this gives you a chance to see how you are feeling and not to overdo it.
    3) Dr. usually give the worst case info. Up to you to make it go better then that (under promise, and up to you to over deliver)
    4) most people that are good at, and passionate about a sport, will make it happen again. Lots of us have had injurys that should have stopped up, but you cna keep going just fine. (mine was a motorcycle vs dump truck 5 years ago) lots of good stories about coming back stronger, it just takes some work

Thanks for the advice mntlion. I think i have a couple surgeries to get through. But then I'm gonna kick some ass in rehab. Good to remember not to overdo it though. And then one of these days I'll bring my wife back to you to finish her boot fitting from last season...

ha ha nice recon in Canyon Creek. There are some cut blocks up there above the Moonrakers that can be fun after a good dump.

    Castle skied GREAT today.

Thick fog at the top of Red but once you pushed to the trees to the north along the area boundary it was money.
Knee to thigh deep and plenty of face shots.

    Fantastic for late March!

Had a lot of fun today at Fernie with Sparkletarte. Was pretty good in the morning, and mostly tracked out in the afternoon, but still fun nevertheless. Thanks for the company Sparkle. If you're ever in this region again, let me know.

Sure, go check castle out for a bit, in the am.

For calgary. Not sure where in the city you are going, but eat here if you can

Might be too late of a response but looking at the cam it looked pretty socked in at Castle - maybe clear up top but doubtful..

If it clears it should be good as the chutes were closed all day I think - not sure as I skied north.

Also, no one skied the bowl as there were no visual reference points in the soup.

As with any first visit its best to go when realitively clear just to set up the terrain in your head for latter.
