this speaks volumes.
here is his story.
Soo basically Ruari and i were planning on scoping pocket rocket?? yeah i know. but the weather came in so just went through the dive. Dropped in from the top and skied bre X to steel pipe, dropped off steel pipe and cut across to the waterfall. we were chatting about which line we wanted to do, Ruari said he fancied the middle chute, so we started to traverse through the rocks above those cliffs to get to it. Ruari asked why i wasn't carrying my skis and walking in my boots as i still had my skis on. Response because walking on rocks with skis doesn't damage them much and its safer. We started to get close to the chute, i'm on snow covered rocks. decide to step off to some snow to slide to the other side of the chute like 1 metre away.
Its blue ice for 7m's with like 2cms of fresh on it. and i'm off sliding fast no chance of stopping, smash my head of some rocks, then something hits me hard in the ass. i'm head first then i flip then again, eventually my 1 ski is under me and i self arrest about 30metres down. if i hadn't stopped there i'd be proper fucked or if i hadn't had my skis on i dread to think, i was lined up with a 30fter with rocks on top and a solid landing.
brought myself together as Ruari came down to me, sluff coming through, we did a quick check of everything my goggles were full of blood, my ass hurt like hell and so did my right leg.
we got everything together and ruari took my ski. then reverse boot pack down the rest of the chute looking for my other ski.
we get halfway down before i see where my ski had gone over the cliff and buried itself just under the snow above us.
hiked up grabbed the ski and skied out of fatboy, eagle creek to the gondola up to patrol.
we do the usual checks back neck and what not, clean up the eye ice the leg, then the unfortunate. bending over with the patroller looking at my arse. thats when i see my underwear and all the blood, use up a whole bog role cleaning that up. wedge some up there and head back home.
then i shower to see the full extent and it ain't good.
Soo off to hospital get checked in and explain the whole situation.
get into the gown and lie up on the bed, wait there for like 40 mins while they set up. next thing i'm butt naked with a doc spreading my cheeks and duct taping them to the bed saying don't move???
he then fingers around a lot? and washes everything out = lots of blood. He then grabs a huge needle to inject right through my sphincter muscle, apparently the cut goes through the to the inside about 2cms in, about 3 injections and then he starts sewing, the last few with his finger right up to see if its going through. then antiseptic cream inside and out.
Ass all done.
cleans up flips me over to sew up my eye, which is pretty basic as its only a couple of injections and then stitches me up.
So thats pretty much it. i have a concoction of drugs laxatives and antiseptics to clean it up twice a day inside and out. fun fun fun

^Spooky was just telling us about that today. Shitty deal..guess you can say that line ripped him a new asshole. Brutal. It's not supposed to be funny but when I got to this part "he then fingers around a lot?" I almost spewed my tea on to my cp screen. Hopefully he keeps it cleaned so it doesn't infect...that would suck. Glad he's ok otherwise.

Today was fucking awesome. Good to get some Dive and WW laps in with good company. I can't believe how much snow is up there...alot of features are covered right over on some areas.
was there lots of lines left over in the dive? I havn't been able to time it after snow in about 3 weeks

^There were a decent amount of people in there. Even plenty of traffic heading out to Galaxy chutes, a few of which were sluffed out. Should be good in the standard stashes. On the plus side...it was absolutely nuking when I left.
So that was in the top 3 best days of the season. The woods are just stuffed with snow. Had a thing where I'm doing a pretty good clip thru the woods, see an opening ahead and go for it, turns out it was a 5 foot drop over a drainage ditch onto a cat track. Good thing I wasn't going slow, I guess.
KH had a power surge that screwed up the gondola somehow, but it would run on backup diesel. Big props to KH for doing that instead of refunding everyone and telling them to go home, I can't imagine it's cheap to run that sucker all day on diesel.
Oh yeah, and 10m of snowfall to date at KH. Woot
Might be at the Lake also. Bright orange jacket, white helmet. Change. Might be hitting slack though.
I'll be there with 2 buddies of mine as well. Look for green jacket, green pants (can you tell I like green?), and dark helmet. Same about the ask for change.
I fulfilled a lifelong dream of being an ugly gorilla on bros ("isn't that every day?") the other day.
That is all.
That middle shot is full of win.
That really needs to become his avatar.
Made the front page of the local newspaper throwing that spread eagle into the pond, but, y'know, it was on hellbents.

Any one have any suggestions for over night trips in the rockies( without glacier travel) I wanted to do the burstall pass area but no random camping allowed in that area. The closest campground would be leman lake on the Banff side and its in the valley. Im very open to the area but i would like the option of setting base camp for a few days at either tree line or above. Skiing is less important this is more or a learning trip then anything else. Great skiing would be a bonus.

I'm not sure about that, I've heard instances of people camping out by Burstall in winter (though unsure if they were meant too..).

Did you find something more specific for that particular area?Backcountry Camping Permits:
Backcountry camping permits are required at all designated backcountry campgrounds in Kananaskis Country. Random backcountry camping without a permit is allowed in most Wildland Provincial Parks (excepting Sparrow Hawk and Memorial Lakes areas) and Provincial Forest Lands.
I gave the peterlougheed guys a phone call yesterday and they said camping outside of the camping areas is not permitted. I then gave Banff a call hoping i could stay in the banff side ( while still in alpine ) but they have the same restrictions for that area.
I have heard of a few people staying up there as well but i would need to leave my car at burstall parking lot for a few days in order to do so and the last thing i want to come back to a towed car

I'm not sure about K-country, but I talked to a Parks Canada warden last week about winter camping. They said you need a valid wilderness pass to spend the night in the backcountry, and you have to camp >100m from any ACC hut. Other than that you're good to go. The guy said they 'recommend' you stay away from high traffic areas... i.e. skin 50-100m off the trail.
Lougheed is not a "Wildland" provincial park. Wildland is a special designation give to lower use or more remote PPs.
Kcountry and other websites should list which parks in the region are which category.
Edit. This web page explains the various types of parks:

huts on the Ice field parkway?
Egypt lake shelter is open year round I think (near SSV)
A friend and I skied Rocket Pocket today. Stoked would be an understatement.
I was also going to suggest Egypt Lake....there is a shelter there aswell if you totally bomb out on the tenting prep. You "should" be able to sleep at any of the back country designated campgrounds, but would be a PITA getting a permit throught the useless fucks at the visitor centres. Lake Ohara would be another option...Elizabeth Parker hut, theres a campground nearby there although not sure if they let you stay there in winter or not.
There are no huts on the Icefields Parkway (93N) that do not involve glacier travel with the exception of Bow Hut (busy as fuck) and the one by Mt. Alberta, but for that you would need some serious experience and timing through HUGE complex terrain complete with river crossings...not by any means a learning trip.
Baker lake behind Lake Louise would be a nice option also.
Keep in mind, it takes a special kind of asshole jong to have a fire in the parks while camping where not allowed. If you HAVE to have one then best to look outside the park and practice leave no trace ethics. People make due on the Icefields for day without one in but ass cold temps so....no excuse really.
Out of all of the options as far as a learning trip...then would recommend Egypt lake the most.
I know you're going to have helmet cam of that???? Post it up. Scary? How was rolling off on to that first air? Details!
