Just giving my local expertise: Edeka is twice as expensive, but they do have a very nice selection.

Still it's not the same as a decent french hyper Marché when it comes to fresh produce, cheese and deli stuff.

I still preferred Edeka after checking out the other two, even with the exchange rate at the time which close to 1.30. Of course it was second to the local specialized shops. Sadly, the fresh produce store within walking distance for my sister went out of business. I hope I can get back there sometime.

I did go into a Lidl in Seville, Spain and it didn't have any evidence of primate fornication. So maybe what I experienced was a local store issue.
