The first time I heard about anyone calling 911 on someone for anything covid-related was March 6 2025 on a fringe ski forum.

How do I call 911 on this Trackhead fellow for being a dumbass who lets insane headlines sink in too far? Do I want Fire, Police, or wAmbulance?

It’s irrelevant to tariffs, but there are many many examples.

wow this is the first time Quote function has worked in months, cool. &nbsp;JB has written some good editorials that avoid the mealy mouthed bullshit. &nbsp; He wrote one recently about how hard the media work to avoid using the word &#39;lying&#39; when discussing the administration&#39;s blatant lies. &nbsp; However in this editorial you linked I noticed he omitted a key point IMO. &nbsp; All available evidence shows that when Trump pressured Z to begin investigating the so-called corruption involving the Biden clan, Trump knew that the validity of the investigation was irrelevant to Trump&#39;s objective of a political weapon--but timeliness was of the essence. &nbsp;Instead, walking a tightrope that presumably stressed the fuck outta Z, he said he&#39;d look into an investigation late that year. &nbsp; The fact that this resulted in the first impeachment situation, coupled with Z&#39;s hesitation to descend to Trump levels of corruption, obviously pissed Trump off. &nbsp; We know the psychology of Trump after all these years. &nbsp;</p>

Countries with higher tariffs also have higher trade deficits:

    https://www.piie.com/blogs/realtime-...-trade-deficit

Why? Because exporters like GM, Caterpillar, Dow, Boeing, rely on imports for their raw materials. Higher cost of inputs means higher cost of outputs which makes U.S. products uncompetitive in world markets, increasing the American trade defict.

Tariffs will not improve the trade balance. Tariffs will make exporting harder for US companies. Tariffs make things much more complicated for global American businesses.

half-fast: All the Canadians at Jay during break week must not have gotten the memo
I live in a border town, and Canadians are still crossing the border here too. For some it is sunk cost, like a Mt Baker season pass, or a second property. For some it is that they have family south of the 49th (I am in that group, but the opposite direction). But setting those aside, they are still coming here for cheap gas and Trader Joes too.

The last remake of Joe Canada, some good lines 25 yrs later and a few more grey hairs I&#39;m pretty sure Jeff Douglas could walk into any Canadian establisment and not pay for a drink

I might add Canada is also where the egg carton was invented right here in Smithers as a matter of fact but apparently it is all academic cuz Americans can no longer afford them

re; border crossing, there are just as many or more US plates in Fernie as ever (maybe because we have better snow than close resorts?) this is the first year I've had appreciable visitors from Jackson Hole in the store though. Their main complaint is lift lines at home and as we have none that makes them happy.

South bound border crossings reported down 29% into WA Feb 25 vs Feb24 per the Sea times business page a few days ago.

At Costco and Trader Joe&rsquo;s, where cars with Canadian license plates typically account for 36% and 23%, respectively, of all vehicles, there were fewer than 10% last week.
They are still coming for TJ&#39;s and Costco, but the numbers are down.

Destroying the country for the ratings boost:

    &quot;It&#39;s the greatest show on Earth. We&#39;ll put tariffs on tonight, but tomorrow we&#39;ll tell you we may negotiate and take them off,&quot; a person close to the administration, granted anonymity to discuss internal conversations, told POLITICO. &quot;But stay tuned, because you never know what tomorrow&#39;s gonna bring.&quot;

That one I had heard from my daughter. TJ&#39;s has a record of union busting, unsafe working conditions, product recalls and is(was?) actively trying to shutter the NLRB, which protects workers rights. I don&#39;t think they&#39;ve disclosed their donations but literally their business model is similar to musk. Besides, THEIR SHIT IS GARBAGE! Never had 1 decent thing from there.

Just now in the Oval: Trump has signed action officially adjusting tariffs vs Canada/Mexico, saying all goods not compliant with USMCA will still see 25% tariffs (or 10% on energy).

WH official says roughly 50% of Mexican imports, 62% of Canadian imports are NOT compliant, so tariffs remain there.

The 25% tariffs will be lifted for all goods that are USMCA-compliant.

    But also:

Trump: No USMCA exemption for auto tariffs next month.

We&#39;re governed by an ignorant child.

Yeah, I have a friend north of the border who uses my place as a shipping depot. I used to ask him if they ever charged him anything at the border, and the answer was always no. Looks like that's over.

With that, the exchange rate, and trump's trade war, it's gonna get really quiet at the border.
