The power grid people seem to think it won’t have a big impact.

Are the power grid people in power? Or is Trump in power? I don’t think you understand how populist politics works.

Yeah, in broad averages the overall effect on MN, MI & NY customers will be modest.
In local terms, areas like Buffalo & Rochester will feel it way more than in MN due to power contracts and distance from the source.
Michigan sez Ontario power is resold to other states. When you add in the complexities of line losses and power contracts, the effect will be felt.

Orange twat waffle boosting the steel & ALU tarriffs to 50%, for the life of me I don't see the point in what he's doing with CAN. Trade war over a little bit of fentanyl coming in through US borders? Shit is super dangerous no doubt and 'mericans love to get high so demand lives here in the states. How about we try and help people with their addictions?

I just bought a new car ahead of tariffs for that reason.

Trump is insane, and I think his ego is the sole driver of his foreign and fomestic “policy”.

Don’t misinterpret my posts as support for his tariffs.

Tarrifs are just money but the 51st state thing pissed off 40 million Canadians big time & suddenly it got personel so that dumb ass shit probably will cost USA more grief than just the tarrifs would

It has nothing to do with Fentanyl. The president can only apply tariffs unilaterally in the case of emergence, so Trump needed an emergency, and he chose Fentanyl. The administration had considered other possible emergencies - I believe they had also considered looking for some sort of health emergency, virus or whatnot, that they could use as a pretext.

Trump has always supported tariffs going back decades. He doesn't have a clue about how international trade works, he just thinks that if the US has a trade deficit with another country then the US, then HE, is losing.

If border crossings are down "much more than 100%," that would imply that people are fleeing the country. Which is actually plausible.

Fortunately for him, most of his supporters are ALSO terrible at basic maths.

I am annoyed my plans for a new (used) car preclude me from buying one for another 3-4 months. My only hope is that car sales slow enough I can get a deal.

That would be nice if I had a car to trade in, but I'm just adding one.

I think car prices will react like fuel prices. It won’t matter if the car has been on the lot prior to tariffs, the price will go up.

Hey Trackhead, maybe we can still find a way to turn the screws on your family there in Minnesota. "ALLETE, has entered an agreement to be acquired by a partnership led by Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Global Infrastructure Partners and start the process to become a private company. This transaction will not change our operations, strategy or shared purpose and values, and it is business as usual for all of us at Minnesota Power. Learn more at www.ALLETEforward.com."Our national pension fund is buying out Allete. While the OASI Trust there in the US is going to go broke in 2034 and cut back 20-25% to recipients, our CPP is sitting nice surplus currently and projected to be about $1Trillion when OASI starts making those cut backs.
