I was following until the author said "Trump will be held responsible for everything that goes right and everything that goes wrong". Say what you will about him, but his superpower seems to be that he is never held responsible for anything!

I didn't even make it that far. For my entire life people have said "it could never happen here." Well, it is.

Unfortunately for Ford, the electricity price increases have a very nominal impact on electricity to Minnesota. Not sure about other states.

Why is that unfortunate for Ford? He's getting 25% more no matter where in America they buy it. Like everyone else he doesn't give two shits about Minnesota.

    That’s 100northern pesos per month, or USD69.

    Which is not insignificant

If anyone wants to crunch the numbers on who is buying electricity from who it's recorded in a nice CSV file by someone in Ottawa. https://open.canada.ca/data/en/datas...2e35e6b178From some reading a few weeks ago, the US has enough capacity that technically when everything is online and running they can support their own demand...it just costs a whole lot more to do so, thus many states buy the cheaper Canadian produced power. Here in BC we've found ourselves in a tricky spot due to weather dependency. A low snow year and an early melt out can leave much of our "battery" low for the hydro electric and force us to buy from the local US sources. But we still manage to turn a profit when net importing with buying anytime the US production is cheap and holding back the water in the dams. When run off is high we sell everything we can.Our hand would be stronger if cutting back flow to the US would cause brown outs / rolling black outs.

One thing about the BC hydro calculations is that we used to have the Columbia R treaty, which favoured the US in terms of flow to meet ag and hydro needs south of the 49th. That agreement is being newly negotiated. Might change the formula a bit if we kept more run off north for longer. The rest of the generators in SiteC are scheduled to be online come Xmas.
    We’ll see.

    Otzl:

It's unfortunate for Ford because it isn't haven't a significant economic adverse effect on Minnesotans. Yes, it increases revenue on Canada's end, but that's not the ultimate goal. It's gotta hurt for American's.

    TBS,

Differing opinions on harm/cost to Minnesota residents. My family lives there, haven't heard any drama, local newspapers in the state are the same opinion thus far (Star Trib)

It would be shocking if there WAS drama on day one of the tariffs, wouldn't it? Need to wait for people to start getting their bills.

Again, current experts in Minnesota, with current tariffs in place, suggest nominal impact. Bigger threat is potentially threatening the grid.

Infact, blowing the grid in Minnesota has a high potential to do the same in Canada. That would sting and be a political nightmare.

Minnesota and the MISO interconnect get much more from Manitoba than from Ontario. Wab Kinew hasn't been talking much about adding sur charge to electricity.

I'm not sure I understand their number of -only $300,000 for four months of the year- from the article. But yeah, if Minnesota isn't buying much of their electricity from Ontario then it's obviously not going to impact them much.

MISO, which oversees the grid stretching from the Midwest down to Louisiana and parts of Texas, receives less than 1% of its electricity from Canadian imports and less than half of that came from Ontario, Morris said.

“For context, that amount is equivalent to approximately one power plant,” he said. “MISO manages the loss of power plants like this every day to ensure reliability across our footprint.”

“Despite the fact that Canada is charging the USA from 250% to 390% Tariffs on many of our farm products, Ontario just announced a 25% surcharge on "electricity," of all things, and your not even allowed to do that.”

And yet the US “doesn’t need energy” from Canada.

Make up your mind - is it a big deal or not? If it’s so minuscule then any tariffs or threats of it being shut off should be met with shrugs and amusement rather than all cap rage tweets.
