And agreed, food and drinks here suck. Very few places in this whole Wasatch Front are what I consider tasty.

Anyone been to urban hill yet? Thinking of going to the wine pairing dinner they're doing on 8/25 for fiance's bday, but it's like $150 each for food and 5 3 oz wine pours.
After spending the last three weeks in Chicago, I'm afraid that I agree wholeheartedly with ghosthop. I'm done paying for high premise food in Salt Lake that just utterly fails to deliver. Craft cocktails are, with few exceptions (WW formerly being one of them), a huge disappointment.
The one genre where Salt Lake seemingly does okay is 1st/2nd gen immigrant joints. We have some decent (even great!) places in that sector.

My nephew is in town for work. He's Navy EOD. They're staying up at the Cliff. Pretty sure you can guess what they're doing for "work." Anyways, they're a bunch of 20 something bro's and I want to steer them to some places for some downcanyon debauchery. Looking for some recs. Thinking of Cotton Bottom, 'Bout Time kinda shit. Close to the canyon's so the DD doesn't have to suffer. Help.

Samuel L. Jackson as Jules Winnfield: Oh, I'm sorry. Did I break your concentration?
Seconded, especially for tonight. Hogs is great for live tunes.
These guys really jam.
For just getting their drink on Bar Named Sue Highland is always fun. Free pool.
I frequent Bar Named Sue on State since I’m literally right down the street. $4 pints. Younger cool crowd at Sues normally.

"boobs just make the world better really" - Woodsy
Went to Italian Graffiti in the Gateway last night. My daughter works there and we went for her Birthday. We aren't real fancy foodies, but we all enjoyed the experience. Food was wonderful, and the service was great.
Midway through our meal an older woman came over and put her hand on my daughter's shoulder. "The Maitre D' tells me that you make all the desserts here, I just wanted to tell you it was the best dessert I've ever had!" That pretty much made her night.
I’m here to hop on the hate train for the scene here.
Spent a long weekend in Chicago, hitting the regular spots I used to go too, and then spent 3 weeks in Munich, vienna, and krakow visiting family. It is remarkable how much mediocre food costs here and how expensive a fairly thought out menu will run you. The only thing worth going to is takashi because it’s dirt cheap compared to anywhere I’ve been of similar caliber (to a degree). Mazza and nohm are also tasty but for the price you aren’t getting anything special.
One saving grace is the sweet heart at a bar near me who will free pour my bloody Mary’s when I’m violently hungover. It’s a damn shame because this place has so much potential to be a hot spot but I think it the fucking mo mos and how difficult it is to get a liquor license that keeps these places afloat.

Délice Bakery & Café
Anyone? looking for a cake and why not grab a sandwich.
So the world is filled with tubular entities. Food goes in one end and shit comes out the other. Sperm goes in and babies come out.
Del Barrio Cafe in Midvale is legit.
https://delbarriocafe.com/
Delice is good, I've had the croque monsieur and the blueberry grilled cheese sandwich which are wayyy rich but they have other classic choices.
Despite the hate on the SLC scene, I've been eating great and enjoying the food around here. I don't know shit about New American menus or places, so the $15-20 meals I usually have - lots a good options. I don't care about higher end places.
Silverside deli Collar Greens sandwich is fantastic, and I also recommend the Mana Thai Cafe which is getting all 5 out of 5 reviews. I'm not a Thai food expert but I can say it's f'n delicious.
Thai Garden Bistro is better then it was 12 yeas ago. Not "wow" but you can walk in and eat. I think its solid. if you want ambiance, sit out side at watch hipsters eat overrated tacos to the west.

Help me plan our SLC trip.
My wife and I are coming to town for 4 days in late January(Jan 30 - Feb 2). Our plan is to ski three days, and to check out the city one day, if there is anything worth seeing. (I would rather ski 4 days straight but my wife thinks she needs a rest day)
The skiing-
We have an Indy pass (live in the Midwest) and an epic pass ( I’m a veteran, so half price for the whole family), plan is to ski at powder mountain for a day and over in park city 1 day. I’m trying to talk my wife into dropping the extra coin to go ski Alta for a day but it’s hard to justify the extra $300+ when we can ski somewhere else for free.
Help me convince her that I need to ski Alta!
Food-
We are staying at the Evo hotel near downtown, but I am open to driving up to 30 min for dinner. We will grab breakfast some where on our way out of town to ski.
Plan is to eat dinner each night in the valley, unless there is somewhere in Ogden or PC that is amazing.
We will be celebrating our anniversary during this trip so we would like to have one nice dinner at a “fancy” place ($50+ pp). Currently thinking Copper Onion, but open to suggestions.
Also the wife loves Peruvian food. We hiked the Inca Trail for our honeymoon. We had some of the best food in Lima and Cusco, and her favorite meal hands down is Lomo saltato. I was excited to see Del Mar Al Lago recommended at the beginning of this thread but my research indicates it may have closed. If it is closed is there another Peruvian joint that is worth going to?
Slc site seeing.
Besides skiing is there anything we need to see/do while in town.
Thanks in advance
Sorry for the blog

I'm self-deprecating and a shitty speller.
To clarify, I assume, spa day at Cliff Lodge buys access to lots of nice things. You’d be skiing Alta — mile up from there - and can even drop through keyhole just before 3:30 to ski right back to the Cliff to join her - without springing for the full Alta-Bird pass (or the second Alta-Bird pass for her). Win win and goals accomplished.
There is a lot of great food near you, you won't need to drive far except for maybe/maybe not the fancy dinner, which I can't help with.
There is a Peruvian restaurant on 3300 south that Rideit recommended somewhere in this thread. Don't know the name and never been.
Woodbine Food hall has decent options, and if you drink Kittos and Fischer Brewery are very close. Fischer is more like a real bar and Kittos is like drinking in a warehouse. Walking to thoes spots in winter will be a bit desolate and lonely at night, you a re staying in a nice hotel but it's a desolate warehouse district in winter.
I'd look at places to eat dinner and drink in Central 9th, that place is walkable and fun. Snowmobile Pizza, Laziz, Water Witch, Central 9th (the Mortadella egg breakfast sandwiches are absolutely amazing) Scion, Bar Nohm and tacos de garay and more.
If you want to go downtown that's another bunch of restaurants, as for things to do walking around temple square with all the lights at night is cool but nothing I can think of is a must-do.
Just checked our the cliff lodge website. This could be the perfect option. Win/win! I’ll run this idea by her tonight.

Antica Sicilia is a great spot for anniversary dinner
Thanks. I assumed that there wasn’t much up there worthwhile, but I hate to make assumptions. we will make sure not to stop in Ogden for dinner.

Del mar al lago has been closed since pre-covid unfortunately.
