Red Iguana has excellent mole, but honestly that's about it, and Red Iguana is never fast (always crazy busy) - everything else is good to average there. If you want authentic (and fast) birria close to the airport, I'd check out Santo Taco.

Check out Neutral Ground Lounge too, in my humble opinion the best Cajun style food in the SLC.

Yeah we are looking for something quicker than Red Iguana (we've been there and enjoyed the Mole), potentially even take-out so we can keep the wheels turning towards Idaho.

Thank you! I’ve always said this, it’s just ok. Mole is the only reason to go eat there.

That could work, looks like spots in Ogden could also work since we are going that direction.

City of Rocks is our stop that night, and eventually up to the Hailey / Ketchum area.

Got it. I was going to offer Teton Valley/JH suggestions if you needed them.

Yeah we are just gonna mess around for a bit the next morning until it gets too hot, then head up to Sun Valley.

What type of cuisine? Ogden is a bit of a restaurant desert. Quick burger and a beer at Roosters B Street, or a pie n' beer at Slackwater are probably best options.

    SLC Eats

It’s not by the airport but Maddox in Perry Utah has either the classic 50s drive in experience or a steak house rated top 10 in the US a few years ago by The NY Times. Unfortunately they don’t serve wine which is a crime as the steaks are awesome. The drive in experience and food is also awesome.

This is the answer. Lucky Slice will make you pissed that Fired Up pizzas are goddamn $24 and realize that Homeslice is garbage if you haven’t felt these things already.

I tend to agree. Lucky Slice is the move for what they're after.

Still, Santo Taco is pretty fucking excellent, fast service, fair prices.

Lol, I feel these things already. That looks like a good option, we both love a good slice. Pizza in Durango sucks.

That looks great too. Maybe we'll stop there on our way back through.

After trying to make different excuses for a year I am giving up and admitting that going out to eat or drink in Salt Lake is mostly bullshit. The Wasatch is amazing but SLC is a city full of people that have an idea what culture is without knowing how to execute. You can’t make a great latte because you saw a picture of one on the internet.

We have family in town that are baffled by the whole thing. My brother and sister in law were given trouble at Little America because even though they are married and have licenses with a matching address, they don’t have the same last name. SIL was profiled at the bar for being latina. Get fucked, Utah.

We did the Central 9th crawl last night.

Scion Cider is very good. They have a huge cider list including pear cider, coferments, and pommeau. Is Elisabeth a magette or associated with the board in some way? Definitely worth a stop if you haven’t been, they allow outside food so Central 9th Market sandwich and a bottle of cider would be a standout lunch.

The Pearl was the best bar we went to last night. Good bar food and great drinks. The menu cocktail I had was great, my fernet and soda was made by someone that actually has a clue. We tried all of the shareables and everyone was happy.

Bar Nohm was a major disappointment. The food was well executed but expensive and nothing exciting for the price. My wife wanted the chicken and then commented on feeling tricked when what she got was essentially chicken tenders with a chili sauce on the side. We tried a menu drink and it was garbage. Nice to get bottles of sake, they can’t fuck that up. Wish they offered ceramic cups in addition to glass. The interior remodel was attractive.

Water Witch was the letdown of the night. Both bartenders were coked out of their minds. My wife’s whiskey sour was an over diluted mess. My brother was surprised how bad the drinks were compared to what we were routinely served in Bozeman when he visited almost a decade ago. He is regularly a Coors Light drinker and even he noticed that the bartenders were shaking for show instead of proper dilution. Our families were surprised when we told them WW is one of the better cocktail bars in town. Previous good experiences had been with a single bartender and he has since left.

Please tell me the places in the US where this doesn’t happen?

And yes, Lis and husband are old school maggots. No longer active as far as I know.

You want to elaborate on this statement? I’d say the people who’ve been in slc for more than a generation know their culture and execute it successfully.

For the record I’ve had some of the shittiest food experiences of my life in Bozone.

You should’ve seen how bad it was 20+ years ago. Who the hell orders cocktails in a state with clickers? You’ll never get a decent cocktail except at home. I was profiled at hotels in Italy with my girlfriend, and outright not allowed to stay in certain hotels since we weren’t married. Italy must be totally fucked to?

    Skiguide and SkiingBear.
Elizabeth has ownership in Scion. Matt owns a brokerage that brings in ciders from everywhere and distributes. It’s absolutely perfect.
