A couple months ago I asked for the collectives help planning my wife and my trip to slc. we have had two great days of skiing and two really great meals so far. A full trip report is forth coming when I get back home. However we are staying at the evo hotel and we got 10 day passes to the bouldering project. They expire feb 15th. If anyone wants them send me a pm and I’ll put them in the mail for you

    went to koyote

the hype is real this is the best new restaurant in SLC in 10 years, 1.5 hours to get a table on a Monday night and it was well worth it (we did drinks at post office place while waiting, which was also very good).

simple, tight menu, insanely well executed, reasonable prices, I got the American ramen and gf got the vegan ramen and both were phenomenal. super light and flavorful broth, mind-melting good egg, scallion that was out of this world.

    also got:

    pickles (good but kinda forgettable)
    karage (10/10 holy shit)
    gyoza (fkn amazing)
sesame vegan ice cream (super dense like a frozen peanut butter treat, still phenomenal)

don't sleep on this joint this is big city quality in SLC

oh and the skiing was great this afternoon

i miss fighting with skid og some days

    2. I stand by my Blatch's recommendation. That place is fucking delicious. So good. 10/10.
    3. Checked out Level Crossing's brewpub. Amazing beer, great prices, honestly very good pizza.
    4. Went to another vegan place that I'll write a full TR of later. Oh my.

Your review reminded me I followed your lead and went to Bar Nohm a few weeks back. This was one of the better meals/experiences I've had in a while. Everything we tried was delish including the Kimchi Martini. Just a super unique menu, cool space, good service and far from what I can find in Idaho right now.
Some people are like Slinkies... not really good for anything, but you still can't
help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs...

yeah so koyote is better food, worse drinks (mostly pub beer and some sake is all they serve), much more low key atmosphere, but also better food

and bar nohm is fkn delicious

I haven't no but I would absolutely meet up with some mags and fuck with that. Hana comes extremely highly recommended from quite a few people (notably the Pho King who, prior to koyote, thought it was the best in Utah)

Koyote is a cool vibe, reasonably priced, amazing food.

hate doing this but anyone got a park city downtown (pc) recommendation for tonight? Nothing fancy.

friends in town and they want to eat downtown. I went back searching 'park' on 20 pages and only found tupelo and nosh.

obv hana on this page but they said they want to be in town.

Sammy's Bistro is good if you just want a tasty and reasonably priced meal (well, by Park City standards).

I assume El Chubasco is still good but I haven't been in a few years. Killer salsa bar.

Top of Main Brew Pub (formerly Wasatch Brew Pub) is another solid, reasonably priced option.

Hana is great! I'd eat there a lot if it was closer. The owner told me he is opening another shop in Central 9th, I think on 200w, which will be very nice.

Accidentally stumbled into Arempas downtown. Venezuelan place. Arepas etc. Got Cachapas. Fried pork. Absolutely amazing. Epinadas were also spectacular. Definitely give this place a shot.

Hell yeah, that's my favorite cheap food in SLC right now, next to Los Tapatios and Santo Tacos. Gluten free too.

Ended up at Handle last night. My rich friend paid. Wasn't expecting $50 a plate and $10 low point cans of beer.

Went with the fried chicken, it was ok, a bit tough. Great fry though.

They were ecstatic to eat out at nice spot though and loved it. Thanks!

Thanks, their Midvale location is close to my office and I've been curious about it for a while.

checked out Hana ramen on the way back from the ski jouring event in heber - what can i say? stb mrs tgapp thought it was better than koyote; I disagreed but only by the slimmest of margins. easily one of my most delicious and memorable food experiences in Utah, and extremely well worth the 55 minute drive for us. absolute highest recommendation, and the fact that koyote was a 1.5 hour wait on a tuesday and we walked in to a place at the bar on a Friday was just superb. i would have gladly waited for a chance to eat here, it was so fucking good.

we had: chashu bowl (un fucking real, the combination of Japanese mayo and chashu and green scallions was just to die for), shishito peppers (piping hot and covered in bonito flakes, amazing), black garlic oil ramen (the egg was life changing), and tofu curry (remarkable).

if koyote ramen is like a lemon chiffon cake - light, airy, nuanced, bright, then the black garlic oil ramen at Hana was like the double chocolate cake of ramen; rich, heavy, satisfying, with an egg that was completely life changing. put another way: i would wear magic underwear and join a cult if it meant that i could eat that egg regularly.

it's hard for me not to gush about this place. the problem is that - except for koyote (and maybe Hanamaru in Ogden - I'll do a full write up of that later) - ramen now feels totally ruined for me, at least in SLC.

Nice! One of our clan is competing in that. Be there tomorrow. Hope it’s cool. And hope she keeps kicking ass.

glad you went finally! I think Hana food for me is above Koyote, but really it's neck and neck and my wife liked Koyote more. As a dining experience Koyote has a better vibe.

Honestly, I think both spots compete with an "average" bowl in Japan. Difference being you can find much better, and everything in JP is much cheaper than what either of those places are charging.

There's nowhere else worth eating ramen at in the area that's for sure. Prob some bomb shops in NJ though that are better than these two.

Ramen Ichizu is soft open, just as good as hana, closer for slc people, but less atmosphere currently. Very limited menu and no alcohol. If you told me ichizu's bowl was something in tokyo I'd believe you, it's really good.
