RIP my sweet best friend....tonight our front door was open as we put away things from our car, and the kids were riding their bikes. Our friendly Dane that everyone in neighborhood knows , went out front door that got left open, and saw someone walking their dog. My Dane trots over to say hi before we notice...but the other dog growled at my boy so of course my boy stiffened up. Didn’t lunge. Didn’t attack. Didn’t do anything. Maybe did a huff back but otherwise wasn’t aggressive. The other dog was a pit bull, perfectly capable of handling itself. As I approach to grab his collar, not even a foot away, the man pulls out a gun and shoots my dog in the ribs. The bullet went through my dog. Our children were right there and could have been hit. The man who shot my dog? An off duty cop. My dog died in my back seat before I could make it to the emergency vet. He was only 5 years old and I’ve never been bonded with a dog the way I was with him. I can’t believe someone felt the need to pull a weapon with children around and with me RIGHT there ready to grab my dog before anything bad happened. The dude was over 6 feet tall, why couldn’t he have just kicked my dog or punch him?! Anything but kill....my dog didn’t deserve to die....

Edit to clarify: Im in Texas. I know it was our fault for him running outside. I know he can say he was scared cause my dog ran up. What’s not my fault is the bullet going thru my dog and could have hit my son who was riding his bike right next to us at the time.

No. Police with body cams is NOT a good idea at all.

The Office of Justice Programs (the revamped version of LEAA) has already been researching and funding pilot programs for hooking up those body cams to facial recognition databases in real time for nearly instanteous cross-referencing of facial images. With such technology, a cop can be walking down the sidewalk while his body cam is automatically referencing EVERY passerby who walks by him. This has already been done in tests with success. Facial recognition tech is getting faster and more efficient every 6 months.

What we have here is one hell of a slippery slope. Who cares?, you say...it's just going to be used to nab drug dealers and thugs in the inner city. That part cracks me up, since a lot of inner city residents are the ones calling for body cams. Maybe they will start changing their minds when the arrest rate of blacks actually increases because of the facial-recognition driven body cams. bench warrants that before were not worth the hassle to pursue will now become easy arrests. Same with child support scofflaws, etc.

Look...I really couldn't care less about thugs and drug dealers, etc...they can and should go to prison...rid the streets of those scum....I don't care. But I DO care about the right to privacy...the right to walk down a street without some fucking cop body cam automatically scanning my face and referencing it against a data base. That is an invasion of privacy and I would go so far as to say it violates the 4th Amendment right to be free of undue search.

What's next? Walking down the sidewalk...and a flag comes up in some passing cop's Google Glass Next Generation eyepiece, that I've got unpaid parking tickets? That I hadn't paid my 2015 federal taxes? A slippery slope.

And I was referring to a specific group of people and their actions who had ended up rioting during the BLM marches....not a race. I feel the same, and I believe I have written about, soccer fans in Europe who burn down buildings and rioting after WINNING a game...and they were.......white.

I used to really hate cops, but that's because I was breaking the law pretty much daily. I figured when I straightened out that I wouldn't hate cops anymore. Wrong.

It's a sad day when you are driving down the street 100% legally and still get scared that some cop is gonna pull you over, profile you, and create some bullshit charges.
