They had a guy on Marketplace last night talking about this who brought up two additional points:

    1. Apple's OLED screens are being manufactured by Samsung. Samsung's OLED production capacity is limited and there is a limited quantity they can provide to Apple since the new Samsung flagship phones use OLED and they won't short their own products. By pricing the X high they suppress demand and avoid availability problems.

    2. In consumer psychology there is something called the Compromise Effect. People tend to avoid extremes and purchase products that are neither the least nor most expensive. By having a super-premium product in the lineup above the 8, more people might buy the 8 than would do so if the 8 was the top-of-the-line offering solely because it costs less than the X, even at identical pricepoints on the 8.

When you consider that the iPhone debuted at $600, and factor in inflation and the capabilities of the X compared to the original iPhone, a thousand bucks isn't completely unreasonable. Not that I'll be buying one.

Had one for the past 9 months. It's a great phone.
Steady use will get you one solid day with a charge. If you use wifi wherever you can, that timeline changes to ~1.5 days per charge. I don't run too many 3rd party apps.
    Camera is great.
If you use google apps, everything works smoothly. Google Photos is great ... never have to think about backing up pics again.
    Fingerprint access works unbelievably fast
    I haven't found a setting where it noticeably lags/slows
    Lots of useful alerts

Not cheap, but I got mine during the xmas frenzy on contract for $10/mo for 2 yrs. That was a deal to me.

Verizon right? Works if that's your network and you don't mind a locked phone.

Google is not making me happy with their phones. I have Fi and I'd like to move on from my Nexus 5x but at a more affordable price than retail for the Pixel. I'm sort of stuck on Fi until someone comes up with a similar international data roaming price point. It's just so convenient. And don't say T-Mobile. Fi uses T-Mobile but gives a better rate and faster international data roaming. I also like a stock Android phone and getting updates before most other people. But jeeze, does it have to be limited to one expensive phone?

Yup. Verizon, although it's clean in the sense that it isn't preloaded with Verizon apps. I'm under the impression that I can take it to any network or use Fi once the contract is up.

Wow. That's new. Usually subsidized phones from a carrier are locked.

The perfect solution of course will never ever happen: Fi using Verizon and AT&T either in addition to or instead of the other networks.

Comcast is using vz and way cheap if you're a Comcast cable/internet subscriber. If I wasn't planning on moving and not knowing if I have Comcast in new location I would switch. I use vz directly now, but the Comcast package is lower than I even have now.

Just got the new Note8 to replace my Note5.

Great edge-to-edge screen. Faster than the Note5. Same everything but bigger, faster, nicer. Heavier too, feels solid, not delicate. Iris recognition, and fingerprint scanner.

$960. over 24 months. Pre-order trade-in discount $480. off. Plus 128GB storage card (Note5 didn't even have card storage), and wireless charging station with promotion from Samsung.

Verizon Unlimited plan. World phone-works in Yurp, Mexico and Canada,eh.

Data is severely hampered in Canada and Mexico on unlimited. They do not honor travel pass in Canada or Mexico 50mb data a day. Calls and text unlimited.

Cheapest way to get a Google Pixel XL is to have purchased one of their Nexus 6P phones directly from the Google store. There are many reports of defective batteries and the phone is getting stuck in boot loops on some of them. So instead of replacing the phone with another Huawei built 6P they are sending out the now discontinued Pixel XL in the last few days as replacement...

Fuck. I have a 5x direct from Fi. And no boot loop so far. My battery life went in the toilet somewhere between 7 and 7.1.2. 8 hasn't shown up on my phone yet. It makes me want to chuck it in the toilet... Maybe I should complain about the battery instead.

I have a pixel, on fi, got it a month ago. So far so good, killer camera which is perhaps most important to me.

This is me only I crashed mine while running and my 5X is now super buggy. No choice other than the Pixel until October 4th. Either way, my Nexus was so cheap, I'm bummed to replace it but I'm not giving up on Fi!

Just got a sweet offer to from Fi to buy back my Pixel XL for $410 when trading in for a Pixel XL 2. Wasn't even planning on replacing, but seemed too good to pass up. New phone is supposed to arrive on about 3 weeks. Oreo has been dank so far.

If I didn't ant to stay on Fi and had to buy an Android phone right now, I'd go for the Moto G5s plus. I think Moto dominates that price point for unlocked phones that you buy without a contract.

Unfortunately I have to wait for my Nexus 5x to brick and hopefully get a Pixel as a replacement. Wicked pissed Google no longer has a Fi compatible phone in the same price range as the 5x. My battery life sucks and the charging cord is loose, but it still works.
