Reading comprehension fail piggo. Nope, ALL vaccines do not provide 100% life-long immunity for ALL people under ALL possible circumstances because as I pointed out earlier, we don't all have the same underlying immune system, don't all have the same HLA type, or antibody repertoire, we are not genetically clonal, aren't exposed to the same level of environmental pathogens, have the same access to sanitation, etc. Just like a seat belt doesn't protect ALL people against death by car accident, and hey, there are reports of people have jumped out of airplanes without a parachute opening and survived, so parachutes aren't really 100% necessary either. You want to risk sky diving without one?

But thank you for at least grasping part of the concept of herd immunity.

The biggest problem with vaccinations is that they have worked so well that it has led to people who have never had to deal with many very serious diseases. This in turn has led to ignorance and stupidity that is hard to fathom. My suggestion is if you ever run into someone who is against vaccines, try to get them to sit down with a grandparent, or just a friendly elderly person and listen to their stories about many of these disease. Its amazing how many will talk about dead or debilitated family or friends from now preventable diseases. Even if you do vaccinate you should do the same thing.

Certain vaccines should be required, plain and simple. Others should be highly encouraged but are more dependent on other factors. Some vaccines should only be used in certain circumstances best determined by epidemiologists and health care workers with input from patients, e.g. travel vaccines. Parents rarely have the knowledge to make such decisions, and you are the perfect example of that.

Too be honest, this is not just about you. Your choices in general are not horrible, just poorly informed. The problem is the thinking of people like you and Telemike lend credence to others to make een worse decisions, which brings us back to the OP. A woman has died of an easily preventable disease, arguably because of poor decisions of people like you and Telemike.

Am I the only one that remembers vaccination day in elementary school?

Have another kid and see where you land with the anti-vax dealio. I've had lots of friends who postponed some vaccinations for no reason other than it seemed like too much for their little guy/gal...when the 2nd kid got into the picture that shit changes quick...your time becomes even more of a premium, unless you're a trustfunder or have hired help.

One thing about DBS, he's actually been known to change his mind on things from time to time, so perhaps this is one of those instances.
Damn shame, throwing away a perfectly good white boy like that

    Sexist?

Sorry dude, I'm an equal opportunity asshole.

fwiw, out of the blue she was a complete asshole to me a few weeks ago. For no reason. It's almost like she forgot that I was welcoming and encouraging to her when she first got here a few years ago. That opened my eyes to the fact that really she's fucking awful.

Naw. Douchebagshredder had a post about how woman "should" birth babies... if I remember correctly it was anti modern medicine.

It ticked me off because I, personally know women who have been pressured by partner or made to feel bad about how their babies were born... ie hospital or midwife, epidermal or not, c section, etc.

That stuff is sensitive and personal and should be decided between a woman and her doctor, period.

Doucheboyshredder, kinda like now, thought he knew better. More than the evil modern medicine doctors, more than I, even, with my vagina and uterus and admittance into the secret caves where conversations about this stuff takes place. He knows more, he thinks, because he managed to knock some woman up. Yay DBS.

I don't like men pressuring or shaming women into or because of choices about their bodies.

Jesus Christ, do we now need to explain to you that Santa Claus ain't real? Are you so clueless that you think 100% effectiveness of a vaccine or any medical treatment is a must for it to have net value to society?

    Hope that wasn't condescending.

Now, don't worry you pretty little head sweetie. It's a well know fact that women don't have then mental capacity of men because of their uterus. It is understandable that you get so emotional for the same reason. Just relax and let the man in your life make these tough decisions for you.

    You're a real fucking idiot.

Just because the medical system in this country does something one way that doesn't mean it's thw best way.

If you weren't a reactionary freak you wouldn't have made a bunch of stupid assumptions and would have listened to what I was saying.

Here, educate yourself a little bit. Don't forget just because you're female doesn't mean you automatically know everything about child birth.

You're a dude right? Maybe it's just me, but when it comes to women I generally avoid telling them how to handle matters of their health, especially those regarding birth control and childbirth. To put another way, it's impossible for me, as a dude, to know what it's like to be a woman...well, maybe Bruce Jenner can though.

She can do what she wants, but facts are facts. The u.s. has relatively poor birth statistics because of many factors that have little to nothing to do with what women want and more to do with expediency and out of touch chauvinist doctors.

Our birth system in this country is pretty fucked up.

I had left the hospital probably a week before I originally posted my thoughts and she lost her shit on me assuming that because I had a dick I didn't know what I was talking about.

    She is the sexist here.

I hear you man, it's not a perfect healthcare system by any means...still, I'm glad my kids were birthed in the US of A.

I really don't care about your catfight with DBS, but if a man and a woman are in a committed relationship and decide to have children, do you think the man should have no say or input when it comes to decision affecting the child? I'm just curious.

Wow. Nothing wrong with discussing a birth plan with your significant other but as a man, (and a father of 2), I have absolutely no say in how things should be done once the labour starts. She wants drugs? Go for it. She want an epidural? Go for it. She wants to do it non medicated, go for it. But to state you actually have a say in what happens once it gets bad, fuck you.

That and ultimately the man has no say in the birth process. It's her body and she's the patient. Once that kid pops out then we can start withholding vaccines ! Mereica! Fuck yeah

As far as child birth? Not unless she is wanting to do something completely against medical advice. If an accredited doctor or midwife (for a low risk pregnancy) is onboard, then it's between her and the doctor.
