They actually admitted that? Wow. Of course, at Squawlpine all of the bay area skiers complain that they save powder for the locals, and all of the locals complain that they save it for the tourists. They can't win. Why not just open it when it can open and tough shit if you can't make it? Too simple, I suppose.

Agreed. Wish the sun would have stayed away, some aspects got a little cooked by the afternoon.

High-T popped after lunch, took it almost to the boundary for a stellar lap (well the top 3/4th's anyway).

Spent the day in Mini golf land, the sounds of explosives out at Kirkwood were a reminder to play it safe today.

Top of the first run I dropped a cornice on a wind loaded slope, not unexpectedly it let loose. Later in the day we saw Travis with SAC doing a profile on it, so there will probably be a report on the website. Dead tree Bowl slide big, probably naturally during the storm, went over the road and ran all the down to the flats.

Did you guys see if the bed surface was new snow or old snow? After what I saw Friday evening on Luther I had no appetite to mess with alpine terrain.

Kirkwood today saw everything pop from Pali to backside. Super crowded - people were parking in the neighborhoods and using shuttles to get to the resort. Might as well have been Presidents Day out there with the insane crowds. Line for Chair 2 around 11 am was the most laughable I have ever seen (with every other chair open and going) - singles line wrapped well up onto Hay Flat and was like 30 minutes? Snow was very wind affected peanut butter pow early in the morning. Not quite point and shoot skiing until it got colder later in the day and things dried out a bit. Vista skied very well for those who didn't want to deal with the 4 junkshow ... Tremanns chute goes now, got hit twice. Heart is looking burlsville with a 70+ foot exit air to no apron!

Still sharky up there - looks like early Jan coverage!

Um, there were no lines on MLK Day. You should have skied it then. And the bumps were fucking killer back then. Bet they were all covered with peanut butter today.

just to clear something up, the crow chair at sugarbowl wasn't running on friday because of a mechanical. there were folks that had descended down to the chair and waited at the loading area for quite a while. they all got comped and patrol closed access to the zone. i saw that judah wasn't working. i have no idea why, however, the area was accessible from mt judah (the peak) via roller pass.

comparing sugarbowl to squalpine? why? i don't get it.... if ya really want to compare, here, apparently, was 'the story' for squaw for the same day, http://snowbrains.com/people-powder-...aw-conditions/.

Naw we did not examine it, was not that big of a slide, but enough of a reminder to be careful.

Experienced the biggest crowds ever on ye olde Powderhouse today. Mrs. ce & I passed ~15 people on our second lap up at about 1100, and it had cleared out completely by the time we finished our 3rd. It was getting genuinely tracked out, which I've never seen.

At one point we came up behind a lady (50-ish) who was flailing a bit around a kick turn. Her (brand new) Dynafits were at flat on one foot and high-heel on the other, so I suggested that she'd perhaps be more comfortable if they were at the same level. This was met with a vitriol laced response of "I didn't ask for your advice, and I don't need it!" Straight to pissed...crazy. We met a cool guy at the top (after passing her like she was sitting still) who'd also had a nasty unprovoked interaction with her. WTF?

On a good note, the snow was pretty good until it started to get gloppy at about noon. I suspect tomorrow will be meh, so I'm going dirtbiking instead. The trails are glorious when it rains.

Kirkwood was great. A couple solid morning runs, then Eagle Bowl opened and it was absolute chaos/carnage - ~100 ppl charging all at the same time it was like a huge skier cross w not-professional athletes - bodies everywhere. Had a great day.

The old goat has six or seven year old (things start to get fuzzy) BD Traverses, which I have run over with my car a couple of times with no apparent damage. If you're talking about the other kind of pole, yes it's very old, and contrary to rumor I only have one.

i rode a chair at sugarbowl on fryday with a very old goat, and competent skier, who was using alu poles that claimed to date back to high school years, in the late 50's.

blowing snow and strong winds at Tamarack today, snow quality was outstanding compared to lower elevations. Dry/light/soft FUN! Got the wife out for a tour and she had a great time. If the wind/snow keeps up for a couple more hours it will be a full reset of that zone for tomorrow, lets hope the temps stay cold enough!!

Anyone have any reports from the crest? radar looks like it might be snowing hard, snow line on Brockway summit was 7k at 2pm coming back down into Truckee.

Hit alpine this am. Top was a little cloudy, bottom a little soggy by 11.
I imagine the front side trees off Scott might have skied better yesterday.

Rose b/c was great today: plenty of untracked, not too windy, and snowing the whole later morning and early afternoon.

I've heard two very different reports for todays snow - North of the lake was super nice and light and south of the lake people were saying it was peanut butter out there.

Since I wasnt able to make it up, I'll just assume the north lake reports were exaggerated... and keep my eyes closed if people try and prove otherwise.

    TGR Community,

Looking for more free local intelligence for the upcoming ski vacation to heavenly. Gonna get a few groceries as the room has a kitchen.

We're staying by the Stateline gondola but will have a car the first day.
Flying into Reno and getting the car. Cheaper to get food in Reno or just about the same in SLT?

Speaking of SLT, ss the Raleys supermarket right there by the Gondola about the same price as other places in town? My guess is that they would sock it to you, sort of like a gas station by the airport. Am I wrong? Is it worth going into SLT to...say the Safeway?

    Thanks in advance for information.

Some folks are just rude, self-important, idiots. Who cares if you ski like a God but act like an ass? Who cares if you ski like a idiot and act a like an ass? Sounds like you just tried to be nice. Life is short. Keep it up.
