I'll drop you an email...
Puked all day and a good foot of new. Skiing just got better and better. More in the forecast for Wed night and Thursday.
Sorry to hear about you guys having season enders.
Mine last friday at marmot basin might be a perpetual ender. Had a pretty epic morning with sun and pow and fun lines. Was pretty beat by two. Decided to put away the gopro and take a chill run to the midlodge for lunch and take it easy for the rest of the day. Don't know how, but misjudged my place by a bit in the trees heading towards basin (lower gunsight?) and came up on top of the little cat track suddenly and didn't have the lift to get over it. (should have hipchecked a turn but didn't make the right decision because my focus was on the fence/line I had to jump or go through) Basically cased the landing and unfortunately the lip was like -15 degrees - compressed hard and shattered my lower leg. So so stupid in a low consequence area I've skied more than 50 times!! A type 6 fracture - multiple tibia plateau breaks, fibula breaks, displacement, etc. (more like a motorcycle injury). The most excruciating pain ever. Patrol was awesome and got me down as quick as they could. Then jasper hospital, then got flown to the traumatologists in edmonton where I've been in the hospital since. Still struggling to control the pain. One surgery down, at least one more to go but have to wait a long time for the swelling to go down. Who knew how hard it is to lie in a bed forever, or how nasty fracture blisters are. Could be chronic arthritis, perhaps a total knee replacement a couple years down the road... Not sure I'll ever be able to charge again. Just hoping I'll at least be able to teach my soon to come baby to ski and be able to go hiking again. Definitely struggling hard with this one and why/how it happened. Scared for the future. And trying to move forward positively.
Bummed I didn't get to ski with more of you guys. Was hoping to meet up and do some spring skiing in LL and the dive... hopefully i'll be back out there in a season or two.
That's brutal. Hard to know what to say other than try and think ahead to a year or two from now and picture yourself back out there on skis.
There have been some miraculous healing stories here with other maggots who were down for the count, make yours another one great comeback.
What's the name of that East Coast maggot that ruined himself with the defective Salomon boot? Thincover? I think he is back skiing after a real serious injury.
Don't give up just yet himavan. Dark days for sure but things will surely look up.
A buddy told me that his brothers knees were spent & he no longer could ski. In a surprise move he found he was able to tele pain free. Keep that in mind & keep us posted. That's a tough wreck for sure.
Brutal to hear that man, stay positive. The human body is an amazing thing - hope to hear a great recovery story out of you yet.
I was in Fernie today and had a good time. Might bring out the big skis tomorrow. Anyone else gonna be in Fernie tomorrow? I'll probably be by the Bear chair mostly, in green jacket and black pants. Ask me for change and I might ride with you.
Also sorry of your injury dude, that sucks big time. I think hearing things like that make all of us appreciate that much more every ski day we can get in. Even if it's not the best one, hey at least, you're out there. I hope it goes well for you and get it healed up all proper and such.
That sucks you guys...dropping like flies on this thread, sorry to hear that.
So.....anyone going to be at the hill tommorrow, or going for a tour anywhere???
Holy shit tomorrow is going to be epic at Kimb...hasn't let up since it started at about 7 this morning and the most intense dumpage has been in the last couple hours.
See you @ the lift in the morning Eldo, I'll be skiing with my wife.
Very localized storm the past 24 hrs:
KH 2 cm new
Red 2
Fernie 18
Whitewater 42
Kimberley 54 cm
rehab advice:
1) no one wants you to heal up, and ski again as much as YOU. So all the advice, physio, etc in the world, will not do you any good if you dont do it.
2) what every you think you can do, do 1/2 that amount, but do it twice. this gives you a chance to see how you are feeling and not to overdo it.
3) Dr. usually give the worst case info. Up to you to make it go better then that (under promise, and up to you to over deliver)
4) most people that are good at, and passionate about a sport, will make it happen again. Lots of us have had injurys that should have stopped up, but you cna keep going just fine. (mine was a motorcycle vs dump truck 5 years ago) lots of good stories about coming back stronger, it just takes some work
I missed this as I thought CA was talking about an actual converstion. Oh well carry on but I'm sure there is a fee of some sort for changing your internet personna. I'm pretty sure it involes naked pictures or bringing a case of beer to my end of season/house warming/barn opening party. Date to be determined. Eldo you coming up for bonus weekend?
woah, I didn't even check the ww snow report today! Oh well. I'm sacrificing today so I can do Fernie on Friday.
Anyone want to pm me with some Fernie tips and stashes please? I've never been there before and will be by myself, and I have no idea what to check out. ww and red are my home mtns, so obviously I like trees but would like some open stuff too if there's any fresh, or whatever is Fernie's thing. Also like straight fall lines and little hits/drops. Looking at the map, the Timber area for trees? Is there a prevailing wind at Fernie that tends to load certain areas?
I might go to Castle for Saturday morning too, so any Castle tips would be awesome as well.
Thanks!
Mntlion is right. Hang in there. I blew me back apart in December, had surgery in feb and on the mend. Just have to put the work in and probably be smarter about hucks and doing some rehab your don't like to do (for me it's swimming) but stay on it and you should be fine. I am punishing myself listening to these all time best days at KH over the last few weeks though...
Well that was Rad.
In 30+ years of skiing here, I can't recall ever having conditions quite as spectacular as this morning.
Maybe thats what happens when Eldo moves to town...
We even made the TGR snow lab list--->
You bet. Tradition! Is it just the Sat and Sunday, or Friday too?
Kimberley was great this morning with two feet of new and blue skies. P.Blz. saw you in lineup at Northstar. Sorry I didn't wait around, I hope you had some great runs. I would have slowed you down on a day like today with my sloow Bros.
Over exposed Go Pro frame grab.
Anyone have luck adding a lens filter to reduce the blown highlights on the older GoPros? The two sunny days I've used it have resulted in mostly useless footage. Oh well.
