From the perspective of a Red Sox fan, for example, it is amusing to watch a team, say, field 50% attendance for typical homegames, and then all of a sudden pack their stadium with "die-hard" fans for a handful of important games. I was watching some clip of a Colorado game at the end of the regular season where a Rockies pitcher struck out an opponent to end an inning, and the Rockies crowd went nuts. The announcer said something like "Wow, what an electric environment here!" Of course, my thought was "welcome to your average Sox/D-Rays game at Fenway in ealry May."

Now, surely there are a lot more Rockies than there are Red Sox out there in the sporting universe, and the standard set by Red Sox fans need not be the standard by which other fans are judged by, but its still worth noting.
    How about a corollary?
To say Rockies fans are silent when their team is losing, is like saying mets fans are silent when their team blows it.
Would you rather hear more shit from Mets fans like me, full of despair and pissed at the world, or hear the cheers of rockies fans celebrating for their team?

Because I can post more about how much the mets suck, if you prefer.

Like I was telling sftc last night, Denver just doesn't seem like a baseball town and he give me the analogy that tickets to watch the 0-15 Broncos would be a much harder to get versus the game last night which is pretty sad. I only hope a season like this brings more fans to the games next year because you shouldn't have to watch a game on a weeknight in a stadium with not a single person in the upper tier.

Great game. I thought the ball hit the lip of the metal band behind padded railing and bounced back in. If so, it was above the yellow line anyway.

Did the moron admit to diverting the ball back into the playing field?

I live in BC and root for the Red Sox, whats geography got to do with it? I was raised watching Yaz, Jim Rice, Fred Lynn, Dwight Evens, Wade Boggs, Mike Greenwell, Roger Clemens and all those losing seasons that made my dad and I extremely angry, but somehow we managed to come back year after year.

Id say someone from Alaska who routinely checks in posting about the Red Sox throughout the season and watches/listens to most of the regular season games is a Red Sox fan as opposed to a bunch of douchebags who all of sudden realize the Rockies are going to the playoffs and run out to buy a jersey and tickets that are so easily available. nobody in Denver gave two shits about the Rockies until now and thats why your all a bunch of bandwagon fans.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Relief pitcher Scott Schoeneweis received six shipments of steroids in 2003 and 2004 from the Florida pharmacy under investigation for illegal distribution of performance-enhancing drugs, ESPN.com reported Monday.

Schoeneweis, then with the Chicago White Sox and now with the New York Mets, was prescribed the steroids by Ramon Scruggs of the New Hope Health Center in Tustin, Calif., the Web site said. Scruggs also wrote prescriptions for Toronto third baseman Troy Glaus.

I just love it because for once they're not talking about the Broncos. Go Rockies!

Bandwagon = greater ticket sales = greater revenue = greater potential at retaining these young stars = more promising future.

BTW - I'm curious to know what Schoeneweis' ERA would have been if not for the steroids. Him and Mota should get together and write a tell-all book.

I still say the Rockies will never be able to attract free agent pitching.

And, I tell ya', it's been very uncomfortable living in New York the past week. It's like a million people are walking around that just lost a close relative. Very awkward.

Glad the Yanks are watching the Sox play the Angels first. I'm actually rooting for the Sox.

    naah..
think of "that person" in your family.

You know the one.. Lets call him Uncle Jon. For decades he was the one who you were embarrassed to be related to. Uncle Jon had a background in drugs and alcohol, probably was arrested a few times, maybe he's made a trip or two to the emergency room after ODing.

Well, 4 years ago, Uncle Jon decided to clean up! He's been doing well! Narcotics Anonymous, got a good job, even has a nice clean girlfriend! Everyone is so happy any excited, because with all his faults, he is family, and we love him!

Last week, we received news that Uncle Jon was arrested for robbing a convenience store. He had a few grams of blow in his pocket. That great girl? She left him, never to return. Narcotics Anonymous? They say he was doing great, until a couple of months ago when he suddenly stopped coming.

And everyone disappointedly concedes that this was not, in fact, a new and improved Uncle Jon. It is just the same old Uncle Jon. And any hope for a recovery in the future has just vanished.

But no, Uncle Jon is not dead. Just hopeless.

Wow, still talking about the Mets. As a Cubs fan you can take comfort in the following phrase: "There's always next year".

    You're welcome.

something tells me,"as a Cubs fan", if you went into a bar or two on Long Island and said that, the reception would not be warm. They at least have a ring and a few championships in the last century.

But at least colorado has a strong, multi sport fanbase. South Florida is filled with geriatrics and folks more concerned with how they look than sports.

I'd say that Colorado has more of a chance at retaining a fanbase than the marlins did.

If that is true that would be pretty dumb to get pissed off at a Cubs fan for trying to point out that things aren't that bad for the Mets...as you've clearly stated, the Mets have won a couple of championships in the last hundred years...it can get a lot worse...hence my post and now my current suggestion to Mets fans...STFU your season is over.

I would say I agree about the geriatrics and call a push/pull on the narcissism.

However the issue I was trying to make isn't the fanbase, it's the fact that regardless of a strong showing (and they did have crowds, during the playoffs) Wayne decided to decimate the roster anyway. So crowds aren't enough. Neither is bandwagonism, if the owner is a dick, regardless of winning, you lose too.

Fans just "think" they have input.

Any Boston fans out there think the Sox will sign Andruw Jones in the offseason? Seems like it could be a decent fit.

Its a great fit except the sox already have two very good center fielders who aren't old, declining, and asking for large bags of money.

We'll be trading Coco in the off season, hopefully for a good catching prospect.
