Ho-lee shit. One of the best games I've ever been to.

The ump called Holliday safe, so it doesn't matter.

Also- what was the verdict on Atkins' HR/double? Did it go over the fence, or did it hit the yellow line? Either way, I'll be there SATURDAY NIGHT, BITCHES!

I envy you for apparently being able to say that that that was ONE of the best games you've been to, and not THE best..........damn.

Good- then no one can bitch that Holliday didn't touch the plate (which I never even saw anyways, I was busy jumping up and down).

And Ski- it probably was THE best game I've ever been to. I still can't believe it.

There is no argument supported by the rule book that Holliday should be out.

    7.06
NOTE: The catcher, without the ball in his possession, has no right to block the pathway of the runner attempting to score. The base line belongs to the runner and the catcher should be there only when he is fielding a ball or when he already has the ball in his hand.

I boiled my thermometer, and sure enough, this spot, which purported to be two thousand feet higher than the locality of the hotel, turned out to be nine thousand feet LOWER. Thus the fact was clearly demonstrated that, ABOVE A CERTAIN POINT, THE HIGHER A POINT SEEMS TO BE, THE LOWER IT ACTUALLY IS. Our ascent itself was a great achievement, but this contribution to science was an inconceivably greater matter.

Well, the catcher was in the process of fielding the ball, just didn't end up with it. Now I may be back to thinking that he should have been called out........I was with you for a while tele, and was boggled that nobody on espn was talking about that point, but you may have just proved him out.

That was the single GREATEST game that I've ever seen in my life - in person or on TV. Full TR with crazy amount of pictures and pseudo-boobies to follow tomorrow.

    Denver was fucking NUTS tonight!!

In the majors, if the catcher is making a play on the ball (like receiving it from an outfielder, as was in this case, he can stand wherever he wants. Its interference if there is no play and no throw, but in this case (and all home plate plays) the catcher has a right to be there to receive the ball and make the tag.

Good to see Colorado win, makes you guys all happy and plus San Diego sucks. Especially the pussy Chargers. Holliday was nowhere near touching home but Atkins's hit should have been a HR anyway.

I hope they can keep this up against the Phils!

I just checked for tickets this morning, and it looks like they're just about sold out for both games- can't buy pairs anywhere in the stadium. Good thing I bought my tickets on Sunday!

No, you can't buy tickets online just like that- they're sold out. But if you went on last night right after they won, then you could probably get something.

Log into stubhub or craigslist and throw down 200 for a bleacher seat to an ALDS game.

I think that part of the note is a little vague and open to some interpretation. But here is the point as I see it. Barrett's foot didn't need to be across the plate to field the ball. I know it is a standard move a catcher would make to keep the runner away from the plate as he fields the ball, but in order to have a chance of getting the call in that case, I believe he has to field the ball. I still think the ump made the right call. From where he stood, Barrett was between him and the ball so he couldn't be sure if Barrett made a tag or not. I think that was why he waited. If Barrett had showed him the ball, he would have called Holliday out. But when Barrett turned around to retrieve the ball, that was when the ump signalled safe. Barrett didn't argue the call, just turned and left the field. I think he knew the call was correct too.

Anyway, while the throw was on target, it was a bit of a rainbow. A better throw and Holliday would have been dead meat.

Not sure how you figure I'm bailing.

Last I checked Mets were eliminated from the playoffs on Sunday. As of last night, the Rockies were still in contention.

So what we have learned is that (a) I can't root for the home team after my other home team has been eliminated, and (b) stating fact that last night was the best baseball game I've ever seen automatically puts me on the bandwagon.

    Good to know.

I know. Absolutely horrible when people from Denver actually cheer for their baseball team. Not like people living in Alaska or Montana and rooting for the Yankees or Boston. God no, that's fucking asinine.

Obviously you can do stubhub or craigslist but it sounded like he just went to the team's site and bought playoff tix, which wouldn't really work for sox tix.

Youre right, I was bemoaning the fact that you can do the same thing here, only for a 500% markup.

And Nick, I dont think youre out of line rooting for the Rockies now. Its been established that youre a Mets fan and you now are happy to see the team in your city moving on in exciting games. Its the people with 3 or 4 dogs in a 8 dog race that make no sense. Or ones that change their dog constantly.

I think the point that was made, and I am just observing so correct me if I am wrong, is that there's an incongruence between Rockies excitement all year, and excitement now, with their good fortune of making the playoffs. From the perspective of a Red Sox fan, for example, it is amusing to watch a team, say, field 50% attendance for typical homegames, and then all of a sudden pack their stadium with "die-hard" fans for a handful of important games. I was watching some clip of a Colorado game at the end of the regular season where a Rockies pitcher struck out an opponent to end an inning, and the Rockies crowd went nuts. The announcer said something like "Wow, what an electric environment here!" Of course, my thought was "welcome to your average Sox/D-Rays game at Fenway in ealry May."

Now, surely there are a lot more Rockies than there are Red Sox out there in the sporting universe, and the standard set by Red Sox fans need not be the standard by which other fans are judged by, but its still worth noting.
