check out the ERA of the guy the phillies are starting against hernandez and the mets.

if my 31 years of experience mean anything, this obviously means the mets are going to get roasted. Hopefully maine can make it up in the second half of the doubleheader.

I agree with Steve. Plus, Mets have never seen his stuff and they tend to suck against first-time pitchers.

Most teams struggle against first-time pitchers... once the scouts and hitters figure the pitchers out (tendencies, movement, patterns, etc), that's when the pitchers start to come back down to earth.

Regardless of whether I can drag anyone else out, I plan on being somewhere in 135-139.

Regarding those 1st base tickets I mentioned earlier, my friend sucks at life.

I may be flying solo, or I may drag my g/f with me... either way, I plan on going to the game. Let's get in touch before then to see what's up.

I'd pick Konerko. He hasn't been great, but it's hard to pick a pitcher with a 5-4 record.

Tampa Bay has quite a few good young hitters. There are a number of guys on that team who are deserving.

I was in SoCal for work this week so I went to the Angels game on Tuesday night. Here's a photo:

I want to thank Notre Dame cell phone guy for ruining my photo!

Anyway, the Angles got slaughtered by the Royals that night 12-4. Gil Meche pitched well for the Royals. The Angels looked terrible. That's the first time I've seen a game there. By my count that makes 15 stadiums I've seen a major league game at now.

pelfrey sucks. a sweep would have been nice.

    ---

hey I have a TR that's not worthy of it's own thread, so it goes here -

I like going to Minor League Baseball games!

Today we went and saw the New Jersey Jackals play the Brockton (Mass) Rox.

    First the important part:
25 minutes to drive to the stadium. No traffic. No Tolls. Free Parking. No cop checking your bag for a bomb.

$9.50 gets you some pretty good seats.

close enough to take some neat pics with a p&s camera..

no nazi security guards to keep my son from running in the grassy area in right field's prime foul ball territory

enough of a crowd to have fun. not enough of a crowd that it was crowded.

2 hot dogs. 1 cracker jack. 1 beer. Total: $8.

Going to the Rockies game tonight if anyone wants to meet up for some pitchers at Via on 18th and Wynkoop. Seats are 140, row 4.

Nick... I'm a game-time decision. Probably a no, but if something changes I'll give you a call.

A few pictures from last night...

    Not bad for $30:

This is a shot of when Hirsch went down after twisting his ankle on a throwback to 3rd. Hurdle was not amused in the slightest - almost like he was hoping the kid would have broken his leg instead.

A Mets fan all the way from Saddle River who was cut-off by one of the female ushers only to have a few of the MUCH older male ushers swing by and encourage her drunken behavior:

And Rockies fans are fucking dense. Some guy comes up and shouts Mets suck in my face. Last I checked, Mets aren't 8 games out of first. Also, the atmosphere was dead. You could hear a pin drop throughout the whole game. Pretty weak spot to watch a game, but I guess Saturday and Sunday afternoons are for when the fairweather fans come out.

there's a reason you got 2nd-row field level seats for $30.

shit, you can't get 2nd-row field level at the cyclones for $30.

She went to Coyote Ugly after the game, but I couldn't muster up enough dignity to follow suit. I'm sure I'll see her at the rooftop shindig on Sunday, and I'll do my best to get the visuals.

For those going to the game tonight, I recall hearing something about her wanting to show up in a bra. I imagine she'll be in section 140 again.

I have to admit, the Rox fans are pretty bad... but the team is still more fun to watch than most others in the bigs. It has more to do with the 90% of Denver who say they're "fans", but don't know anymore than they read in the Denver Post, or hear some douche on 9 News tell them about the team.

If the damn owners would spend a few bucks to get a decent bullpen, the Rox would easily be contending for first place. Even with their bad BP luck this year, they're still only 3 games under .500.

Case in point: I'm on the Mall Ride going towards Wynkoop and there's a few people on the bus talking about the game since they are all going. They look at my Mets' hat with the logo on it and question what team it represents. Okay, I'm not going to assume every person in attendance at a baseball game knows what every team's logo looks like, but when I said I'm going to the game, she responds with: "Ohhh...are the Rockies playing [the Mets] tonight?"

One of my pet peeves is when people start heading for the exits around the 7th or 8th inning even when it's a close game. WTF?

That's just proof that there are people who don't give a damn about sports. They shouldn't be allowed to breed.
