Anyone else hear Matsuzaka booed off the field against the Indians? Another stellar performance... his ERA should be close to 5.00 after tonight.

Nope... I could definitely hear some boos. Not NY style booing, but it was there.

Yeah, with the lead over the Yankees down to a scant 13.5, Red Sox nation is in a complete panic, and ready to run the guy out of town.

hmmm....12 hits in 5.2, 6 ER. Now....how the fuck do you figure this out.......I think he's now on a pace for 15 - 10. Right? And lets not forget he faced the Yankees twice earlier this year and gave up, like a dozen runs, and still won both games. Yeah, that's Cy Young material.

On a bright note, he doesn't walk a lot of people.

There's that. And he hasn't been demoted to A-ball yet.

    Hey, I never said that.

When you're 13.5 games down, you've got to grasp at straws... and I'm pretty sure he's the only "weak" spot on the team right now.

    Lugo is batting .230
    Crisp is batting .229
    Drew is batting .226
So I got that goin' for me...which is nice.

SSD has a hard-on for JD Drew, so watch what you say.

In all seriousness...if these guys even turn it around a little, like to a consistent .245 for all 3, that would be a huge jump. Lowell will certainly tail off (he does EVERY year) and Youk, as much as I love him and his ability to try his absolute hardest at Daisy Buchanan's to land a "Boston 5*", cant posibly keep this up can he? Papi will hit his stride though, Pedroia will continue to improve, and the bullpen hopefully will hold somewhat true.

*Boston 5 = girl who would be rated a 3.5 or 4 at best anywhere but Boston, where she is a 5. And thinks she is a 7.

Brock, I have been since I moved out here. I've said many times- I enjoy watching them, as their players come up through their system and they're young. They play hard and have emotion, unlike *most* of the Yankees.

Also, you could say the same thing about the Yankees... they've got Abreu, cano, Mientkicwnanfinosdewicz, Damon, Matsui, and Giambi all sucking a fat one- if they come back up to normal levels, they'll be winning again.

Very true, you have been on the Rockies wagon from day one. Personally I like the Padres in the same way (Young NL team with players I like to watch).

And the Yanks could absolutely get going, the difference is "all" the Sox have to do is maintain. The Yankees need BIG changes (not in personell, but in performance). Its still pretty early- might as well enjoy it now and hope it gets tight down the stretch (and of course, the Sox pull it out)

I'm just hoping for the Rox to get in the race (although they're only 6 games back right now) and hover over .500 the whole year.

Matt Holliday hits the ball harder, consistently, than anyone I've seen lately.

    Thumbs up

Loved the way the Tribe looked last night against Dice-K. The bats came alive with everyone hitting and the bull-pen got Byrd out of a hell of a jam with the bases juiced. Nice to salvage a win coming home for 4 with the Tigers!

as long as the sox keep taking two of three from the top teams in the AL while gay-rod has to call the opposing 3rd baseman off the ball to salvage one of three against one of the worst teams in the AL, things will be fine.

case in point, watching the game last night and guess who's on Sunday Night Baseball? Sox - Yankees!?!?!

WTF, I don't mind watching a good team but this is ridiculous. What possible reason can there be to show this matchup again? (dont bring up ad dollars, I know.) For the record I hope the Sox pound them further into the cellar.

I have no desire to watch it get tight down the stretch. I don't want to go bald prematurely.

Youre right, I could go either way. Tight race with the Sox winning is has the adrenaline rush. Or winning the division by 15 games would be fine too.

I think winning a tight race does more for your momentum going into the playoffs. If you're up by 15 games at the end of the season, you'll have guys sitting out and not really caring for the last two weeks- and you don't want that heading into the playoffs.

yeah, you're right. who would want their players rested and healthy heading into the playoffs.

Possibly the pitchers, but not the position players. Its the old argument from football... just applied to baseball.

#1 reason the Tigers got embarrassed in the World Series is because they had 8 days or rest between the end of ALCS and the start of the WS.

He's the prototypical modern player- or maybe just has the prototypical modern player's contract, I'm not sure.

For my own sake, I wouldn't mind having the Sox win the division in a walk. For the sake of winning it all, I agree that it's best to have momentum coming into the playoffs.

Following the Cleveland series, I think that the Sox are the best AL team right now. That means taking into account the injuries other teams are dealing with (Angels, White Sox, Yankees) and the relative lack of experience of the Indians- meaning it could all change in two weeks. But for right now I like our team.
