That about sums up the Yankees' season.

Here's the snippet from CNNSi.com's "rumor central":
The Yankees learned yesterday that Jason Giambi's season is likely finished. Giambi was diagnosed with a partially torn plantar fascia tendon on the bottom of the left foot. If surgery isn't done and the healing process takes three months, that would get Giambi out of the boot at the beginning of September. After that much time off and no minor league games to play in, it's not realistic that the 36-year-old Giambi could bounce back in time.
With the way he was playing this year though, its not like they're losing much.
Still, I wouldn't count them out yet. If their rotation gets set at all, and all their players emerge from their horrible funks, they could put some W's on the board real quickly.
And you just know that George told Cashman to go out and look for a 1B immediately. I'm sure he's put in a call to O'Dowd asking about Helton.
Not much of a loss, really. He doesn't play first much, barely can run, and only pulls the ball for power. All that for 20+ mil a year.
How is it that such an expensive player can't punch a hit or two into left field when they shift him like that? Mantle is spinning drunkedly in his grave.
18 of 20? That's kind of a tall order, Nordberg. Maybe 8 of 10. They need the pitching to get healthy fast. But I agree. They'll be in the hunt by the time September rolls around.
Also, the most remarkable thing about the night Cal Ripken broke Gehrig's record is that Chris Berman didn't say ANYTHING for more than 20 minutes. That's gotta be some kind of record.
So I got that goin' for me...which is nice.
I think the Yankees need the hitting right now more than pitching. Shit, Pettitte is 3-4 and his ERA is under THREE.
At the brink of another Sox/Yanks series, I once again encourage you to check out Fitzy’s latest at http://www.townienews.com/.
There's a lot to be said for nowhere.
Of course, but more important, they stopped the tradition from the beginning of promoting inside guys to Managing Editor, and hired the present dude, Terry McDonell from US magazine to run the show. Yes, US magazine, the perennial also ran to People mag. He said at the time he was hired that he wasn't much of a sports fan, and it shows. But I guess he follows orders well.
The design has also been raped to nothing, in case you haven't noticed. Now it's a bunch of boxes with text. boring......
When was the last time they broke a big story, like they did once or twice a year?

If you want to watch good, emotion-filled baseball this weekend (and the next two as well), check out the NCAA tournament first-round regionals. College baseball is SO much more fun to watch.
I can't stand metal bats. The baseball is great, but the constant "poink" sound drives me nuts.
I'll cunt up that statement by saying that the reintroduction of wooden bats to youth, HS, and college baseball would improve the sport. Pitchers would pitch inside more often, we'd see less pull hitters, and more line drives.
"I'm on the High-T and all I need is a little gravity to bring me back...back to the fringe"
wasn't a commentary on the funny dude, he was actually refreshing. That's why I left that out of the quote. Not even really that I hate both teams. I just dont see how exciting a "rivalry" can be when one team is so far in the shitter that they're not sure which way is up. Oh, and even more importantly, why the rest of America has to watch them. I can't wait until they're 20+ out of first and 10+under .500 so I don't have to hear about them anymore.
I still call it The Jake.
