Good timing, just started to consider the Colorado for a replacement of my Frontier.
I am just a bit leery of buying any model that hasn't had a few years to get the bugs worked out.
According to what I have seen, a Diesel crew with the longer bed and somewhat tricked out comes in at about 41K.
Not bad.
And yes, my Frontier is a "work truck"
Do the new Tacos or that Colorado have 48" between the wheelwells? Because I could never go back from that.
44.4 inches on Colorado unfortunately
I'd be willing to bet there are more Colorado fleet sales than Tundra.

A 2 door Blazer diesel reboot with the ZR2 package would be really cool.
love these

After 13+ years of solid service, my '98 F-150/4.6L Triton just shit the bed. Gotta get a new full-size 1/2-ton, 6-1/2' bed, X-cab preferred. It'll be my daily driver and gotta be full-size so my FWC Hawk can slide into it. Gotta be 4x4.
Planning to keep the truck for 8+ years. Tentative budget is $35K but might go up to $40K, so looking for low mileage late model. Gotta get something in the next few days. CR's sole recommended full-size 1/2 ton is the Tundra. Hundreds of internetz threads re GM/Chevy AFM oil consumption/engine rebuilds/broken lifters/caramelized rings/etc. etc. scary as shit. F-150 Al alloy w/3.5L Ecoboost is tempting but CR reports history of chronic problems. Mopar: no thanks.
I'm seeing plenty o' options in our price range on Autotrader, CL, etc. CR reco and reliability history records has me leaning towards Tundra. (Yeah, I know Tundra hasn't had a meaningful upgrade for 8 years, but reliability is my #1 priority and Honey likes the Tundra.) Al alloy body F-150 is in second. AFM has me spooked so GM/Chevy had dropped off the list. No, I'm not getting a 3/4 ton nor a diesel nor a lifted bro/small dick truck.
Finally, I'm well aware of ChevyFordDodgeRiceburner tribalism and acknowledge the folly of soliciting advice in the PR.
Okay then
An F-150 with the 5.0L is probably your best bet for longevity.
Your price range should buy a new Tundra or F-150 given end of year sales? Family member bought a 2016 F-150 with 5.0. No problems so far.
Probably not but can't imaging it would be that much worse. Buying as close to the end of line of the last Gen will help.Longer than Tundra w/5.7L?
It's an uninformed opinion but I figure the Tundra parts would be more expensive and harder to find.
The Tundra is also a bit harder on gas. The new F-150 is noticeably better too.
In the next couple of years a lot of slide in camper owners like you will get that 3 liter diesel F150. The fully loaded mpg and uphill torque will kill any gasser option. The ram 1500 diesel has shit payload.
But your need sounds more urgent.
I have no experience with the tundra, but the owners I know love theirs and they seem to stay out of the shop. So for reliability (and base options) they are probably worth the premium price.
I think the F150's and the 1500 chevys are comparable. So far no issues with the AFM after the first service on my 1500 crewcab. And you've already heard my feelings on any of the domestic half tonnes for anything other than light duty anyways.
The tundra I was shuttling this fall had a 4.6 tundra , buddy is a contractor from down there so he said the 4.6 gets better mpg and he had never got <15 mpg if you care about that, I liked driving the 4.6 I also did another shuttle with the a 5.7 on shitty logging roads and I didn't notice a lot of difference but I wasn't loaded or towing anything either
Unless you got a lot of weight to pull I think diesel is pointless

Helpful responses so far. Thanks. FTR most I'll haul is my FWC Hawk @ 1200 lbs. wet and loaded (other than an occasional short run). No current plans to tow but that could change.
Not here. Tundras are actually cheaper than comparable F150s in my parts, maybe because Tundra has not had a major upgrade for years.
Urgent, yeah. Gotta get something in the next few days.
I've had Fords and Toyotas for years. I've spent way more on Ford parts cuz they more often need parts. Toyota parts are at most only a bit more costly.
Tracked down a dozen or so low mileage certified Tundras. Not many new 2016 other than GMC/Chevy AFM. Prices for 2016 Tundras and F150s not much better than 2017.
5.0L F150 makes sense if I'm looking at F150. Local dealer has none. We're new in town and would like to buy local so maybe I'll look into dealer trading in a 5.0L.
Most new stock is crewcab. Don't need that. Don't want the extra length.
Toyota/Lexus 4.6L is solid, tried and true for sure.
