Ford comes pretty close on weight, thanks to the aluminum, but they're still heavier. The rest are a good bit heavier.

Not sure about the diesel trucks, as I wasn't shopping those, but I know they had incentives for them. I know they're not doing shit with 2017s, but they will. Most dealers said March for Ford incentives on '17s, plus whatever you can get the dealer to do. Most were willing to "deal" on special order trucks, too, before they stopped producing '16s. Tell them you changed your mind and wait. If you desperately need a truck, buy a used beater and sell it when you get the new one. You'll still come out ahead.

Yes the drastic pricing on the 2016's was compelling however, the tech and refinement of the 2017 is too compelling. Not comparison really. I am getting about 13% of the 2017 MSRP with employee pricing hookup and the rebates I can keep. Plus the dealer can only charge $275 adminstration fee and a max $100 doc fee.

Fair enough, I guess I was comparing my early 2000s Chevy 2500 to my buddies brand new Tacoma - his truck more or less is the same size.

Those are the arguments for why the Mid-Size market is so tough. that is probably better then a Tacoma.

It's a hell of a lot better than the 4.0 Liter Frontier I had, to be fair I did just drive from ID to Cody and back so a lot of it was 50mph through the parks but still, pretty impressed.

I already have the mini PU so I know them, IMO the people who think the small PU's are the perfect truck will come to their senses ... when they run out of dope

I also know Tacoma cuz I have been in the 4 door a lot as a passenger with 4 other people, also driving them fully loaded to expedite skis & gear, IME Tacoma is not as big as the full sized PU's, i find it is very close to the perfect size to move people/a little bit of gear.

Driving a couple of Tundra's this week has me also thinking about the full size PU which i probably don't really need, in any case I am not in any hurry to make a decision

sorry, just doesn't pass the smell test (or the sit in them/lie in the bed test)
japanese trucks are small, but NOW with bigger body panels
even the tundra/titan is not quite 1/2 ton size

That's my point, you're getting a truck that is as "big" on the exterior and as heavy as an American truck but way smaller interior and a less powerful motor.

This is why I ended up in Tundra with a 4.6...
I really wanted to love the Tacoma I had for a short period of time before, but it drove like shit, and from a space/utility perspective was less useful than 4runners I had owned previously (at least the way I was utilizing it).

I parked my '76 Power Wagon next to a new Tacoma in downtown Wenatchee last week and the Taco was longer and wider than my truck. It was an Xtra cab with the 6' bed. The bed was tiny.

That's a Midwest thing. Mulch at the pumps in the summer, firewood in the fall and de-icing windshield fluid the rest of the year.

Here's my 5.7 Tundra. She is set up w/ Old Man Emu (612 coils in front, and the Dakar leafpack w/ add-a-leafs and greasable shackles in the rear), no front sway, TRD rear sway, and Light Racing upper control arms w/ +2deg caster. Drives GREAT on and off-road. Hoping to build some bumpers and sliders this winter.

Was looking at a new titan Diesel while getting an oil change today. Expected better fuel economy than the 11 to 14 the owners are reporting, that's the same as my gas truck.. very nice interior though. Payload and towing are right where you'd expect too.
