Picked up a DPMS AR lower this afternoon, now I just have to decide what to put on it. This will be my first build. I've seen a ton of resources on the web, any tips from the mags?

Forgot to tell you, when you start putting the interenals into the lower, make sure you have several hours and a twelve pack of your favorite brew.

You dind't have any springs left did you?? Kinda fun, I've done three.

    Looks nice.

Took about 2 hours to get everything all together. And I actually ended up with 1 extra spring, I'm still trying to determine if they sent an extra or if I left something out. Everything works how it should, I'm at a loss.

It's the same as the selector spring, about an inch long and wound tightly. I'm pretty sure it was an extra.

Picked up a Russian Armory Saiga 12 ga shotgun last week.

Looks like ATF is going to declare them banned for import due to a "non-sporting" ruling. There is a 6 month comment period. Everyone is guessing the existing guns will be declared destructive devices like the streetsweeper and USAS mag-fed gun.

Is that solid? Not Obama's gonna take our guns, and weren't they supposed to release a finding on this like a couple weeks ago? I mean I first heard about this during the SHOT show...

What does '6 month comment period' mean?

I've really been wanting to pick up a Saiga 12, but without all the tactical combat accessories. Are there other good AK-pattern shotguns you like?

Nope, Saiga's are the only show. The one I got is just a simple gun, nothing tactical. Running about $750-800 right now.

K-Var is selling them a little more reasonably.

Sweet Allah but you are a dim bulb! That max OAL is the same with the mags you are currently using, moran!

Finally got around to getting the ball rolling on a can and also a .260 Rem re-barrel for the Tikka. Evidently, Tikka will be shipping the new T3 Sporters to the US this year. I'm gonna be super stoked in like 5 months!!

...kinda retarded how the local sheriff has to come over and approve my safe just to put a muffler on a gun.

How does the collective feel about magazines and keeping them loaded? Got into a bit of a debate today at work (it's hella slow in the Northwoods these days). Problems with spring tension and feeding mostly. Stick vs. Rotary? etc......
Another side discussion we had. If you had to give someone who had never used a handgun, and in a dire situation, would you prefer qty. vs "quality?" i.e. An XDM 9mm with 19+1 or a .45 with 7/8 rds. Spray and pray? or hope the shooter is a natural?

-Does anyone know the U.S military's stand on AR Mags?

Springs get worn by being cycled, not by being left compressed for extended periods of time.

I would tell that shooter to practice so they arent a novice any more. Spray and pray is a great way to get manslaughter charges for accidentally putting a round into the head of the baby in your neighbors house.

The military believes them to exist. (wtf kind of question is that?)

    Quantity versus quality?

I shoot better than most, and I carry a FNX-9 with 17 + 1 and a spare mag. A modern 9mm HP, Win Ranger T-series in my case, will do essentially the same damage that a 45 will do. Self defense handgun calibers are not manstoppers. One round might stop someone or it may take 10. I prefer the extra capacity of a nine. If I am facing multiple bad guys or if the guy I am shooting does not go down quickly, having extra rounds is better.

Used is fine. How much do you want to spend? Are you going to carry?

If just hanging with the wife for range/home, then just get a cheap, used, reliable semi-auto 9. Then have fun. She will too.

Maybe throw in a small .38 wheel gun just for variety/simplicity. Also super cheap.

I'm in the process of ordering a SR22:

Seems like the ultimate plinker--AR platform for accessorizing combined with the legendary reliability of the 10/22 mechanics.

I also have a terrific deal with CZ firearms. I used to own a CZ 75 9mm, which was a fun but kind of boring handgun. Heavy as fuck, too.

Anyone have any CZ's they really like? Think pro forms here.

I just sold a Taurus PT809 for $300. It would be a good choice. A Taurus PT92 would be good. Bersa 9mm are supposed to be a good bargain. AR15.com, Glocktalk.com forums have good classifieds for finding guns.
Elite Deal Seeker is a good search engine for gun classifieds:

P95 is a good gun. Built like a tank.

I have had no problem getting 9mm. Just bought 800 rounds from a guy for $80.

Sweet. Put some Hogue finger grove grips on it. Will be the best feeling pistol you own.

I think Gander's doing their "any Glock in stock for $500" thing right now...G19 would be a good all-around plinking/self defense gun that your wife will probably enjoy shooting, if it fits you guys' hands...
