I've seen beards in Ghan, but not long hair.
Maybe next time I'll say "Yeah - I lead a doublesupersecret CIA Death Squad. Our cover is gay hippy loggers. Now that you've seen me "training", I'm going to have to make you disappear". Next time I go to the range I'm gonna wear my ghillie and low-crawl from my truck to the firing line.
What's up?
So I have a little issue with an inherited Ruger Mini 14...took it to the range and nothing happens. Guessing it is a firing pin issue, but not really sure. Is anyone familiar with this rifle enough to give me a couple areas to check out before I take it in to the shop?
Thanks.

Picked up a new bunny killer.
Fun little gun, and a straight shooter right out of the box.
Looking to pick up a Kimber Montana in a .308, just a matter of time...
Nice, I've handled and shot a few and I doubt you'll be disappointed. Some people had complaints about the feed ramps and general QC in the initial runs but everything since then has been GTG from what I heard and seen. If I didn't already have a 700 Mtn Rifle in .270 the Montana in .308 would be my choice for a lightweight mtn/backpacking rifle. You get to go sheep hunting this year?

Looking forward to doing some shooting soon.
150 yards is plenty close enough to hit a foot and a half target. I'm a lot better with pistols than with rifles and the only thing that really holds me back doing this is lack fo a scope.
I go through ammo a lot quicker practicing high speed close range sort of stuff. At 150 yards, its a shot every 2-5 seconds.
Regardless though, the joke was that they thought cops practice shooting pistols past 30 yards at the VERY most.

I've got 150 rounds through my Taurus 1911 with nary a hiccup. I'm really starting to dig shooting this thing. Last weekend we went out to the West Desert and shot in the snow, faceshots through the scope,. I would've took some pics but we were having too much fun blasting water filled jugs.
You're a lot better shot than I am Leroy, I'm not even close to wanting to try shooting my pistol at 150 yards. I can hit a 5 liter oil jug at about 75 yards, that's about my max.
(Leroy)
You still have that Buckmark for sale?
I was going to say if you can hit that oil jug at 75 you can hit something twice as big, or a bit more, at 150, but then I remembered that long range is really one of the areas where 9mm shines, much flatter trajectory than 45.
Its really all about just about doing it enough so that you get a feeling for the holdovers with non adjustable sights.
I cant say I'm that great at it either, I mean when theres a flier its off by 10 feet sometimes, and I probably think I'm hitting the target more than I actually am, like I said its just plinking, not shooting paper for groups.
Still though, the equipment is very much capable of minute of human torso out to 200 yards I would say. Maybe not every pistol, but a good one, I gotta sig x5 that I got a great deal on, guaranteed 2" at 50 yards, it just boils down to the person workin the trigger, like I said I'm not great, but I'm getting better. I can hit a car door almost every time at 200, I know cus I can hear it, and no, I'm not the jackass that left a car door in the desert, but I'll shoot at it.
An utterly useless skill, but very challenging/fulfilling/satisfying/fun.
Almost forget, yea I still got the buckmark, not super motivated to sell, but not super motivated to hang onto it either. I dunno $200? bull barell, fiber optic front sight, two 10rd mags, some scratches on the barrel, its reliable not a tackdriver but not inaccurate.

New 300 win mag army sniper rifle
USA Today says
The Army is shipping powerful new rifles to its snipers in Afghanistan to kill insurgents who are firing from greater distances and shooting at troops more frequently than in the early years of the war.
The XM2010 sniper rifle can hit a target 3,937 feet away, which is a quarter-mile farther than the current Army sniper rifle shoots.
The added distance is important because insurgents have been shooting down from ridges and mountaintops where gravity helps their bullets travel farther and beyond the range of Army snipers.
U.S. AT WAR: U.S. casualties in Iraq, Afghanistan, and beyond
"They're not outgunning us, but they are putting our soldiers in a predicament where 800 meters (2,625 feet) may not be enough," said Col. Douglas Tamilio, referring to the maximum range of the current M24 sniper rifle.
"Because of the expanse, you can see so far and you can engage so far," Tamilio said. "You want to give guys the capability to do those things they need to do at those ranges."
Afghan insurgents appear more willing to shoot at U.S. troops than in the past, according to Pentagon data. Gunfire attacks on U.S. troops in Afghanistan have spiked over the last year and in July 2009 topped 1,000 for the first time in the war. That mark has been topped several times since.
Afghanistan is full of craggy mountains, broad valleys and desert where insurgents can hide and shoot from long distances.
"There's an enormous amount of terrain there that favors snipers," said John Pike, a military analyst and director of Globalsecurity.org, a website dealing with defense matters.
The Army's 2,500 snipers are to start receiving the XM2010 early next year, said Tamilio, who manages weapons programs for the Army. The M24 has been in service since 1988.
Among other improvements contained in the new sniper rifle are more powerful telescope and a device on the muzzle that dampens the noise and flash of a shot, helping to conceal the U.S. sniper.
Prior to the Afghanistan war the Army spent about $400,000 per year on sniper equipment; it spends about $19 million now. The Army began seeking the more powerful rifle in February based on requests from commanders in Afghanistan.
The Pentagon would not say how much the new rifle costs, but said Congress appropriated $5.6 million in 2009 and 2010 for the rifle's development and production.
The snipers are an important part of the counterinsurgency campaign in Afghanistan, which is designed to minimize civilian casualties, Tamilio said. Insurgents often mingle among villagers as cover because they know that U.S. troops want to avoid harming civilians.
"A well-trained sniper taking out somebody he knows he has to take out — if it's a high payoff target — he can do that with almost no collateral damage," Tamilio said. "He's going to put his round on target."
Pike agreed, saying a bullet is better than a bomb in most circumstances.
"You don't want to kill the people that you're trying to defend," Pike said.
"We won't win the war doing that. Anyone other than a sniper runs a serious risk of killing innocent people in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Never understand why we have to spend that kind of money to "develop" a new rifle when there are super accurate packages already out there.
Accuracy International comes to mind. Hey, didn't the Brits just set the sniper record with the AI L115A3 in .338 Lapua Magnum. Over 1.5 miles (8,120 feet or 2,706 yards). http://kitup.military.com/2010/05/br...ghanistan.html
Sako TRG 42 ain't bad either. Barrett has a new .338 LM, and everyone knows the military likes Ronnie Barrett.
So, why are we building a new rifle?

Same old shit.
I've got some Christmas cash burning a hole in my pocket. I'm toying with the idea of a fairly decent quality AR in a 5.56 flavor. Any recommendations in the $1200-$1300 range? I'm leaning towards a Daniel Defense M4 Carbine, if I can find one. I'm also considering a Colt, or Lewis Machine Tools.
Anything I should look for in those brands, or something else I haven't considered?
Check out the Bravo Co. midlength carbine.

And here's a chart explaining mil-spec parts and which manufacturers do what:

For that price range I would look at BCM or Daniel Defense. You can find a DD M4 for under $1300, ready to go. LMT are (MOO) better in quality, but also pricier. For what its worth I am thinking about getting a DDM4 v3 or v5 in the near future. Throw an Aimpoint (and light if you want) on it and your good to go.
This is cool!!!

BobMc,
I have a Rock River and love it. I have a Colt for my job and don't notice a difference at all except for the selector lever. One thing I do like about my rock river is that it came with a match trigger and the money you save on a rock river you can use to get an optic or spend on ammo.
The pacifists always lose, because the anti-pacifists kill them.
I searched around online pricing the Daniel Defense stuff, the cheapest I found was a place about four blocks from my work, heh.
I ended up going down to Impact Guns and ordering this sexy bitch:
It'll be here in about a week, I'm beyond stoked.
