Nice. I like that stock. Had one on a T and E rifle we were playing with last week. You're gonna like that. Fyi, for anyone in the Salt Lake Valley that needs good work done on an AR 15, Steve Morrison (Mars Armament) is local out by Airport #2 and does rippin good work. He's also a skier. I can't vouch for his skiing ability, but his gunsmithing is top notch. Works on 1911's as well. Built me one that's gone over 3500 rounds without a malfunction.

As far as AR-15's go, how about a POF unit. Never owned one, but hear good stuff.

Anybody have suppressor experience? I'd like to stick one on a Rem 700 for pdogging. There was a guy at my parents that had a high zoot AR framed 204 suppressed this deer season. Only noise was cycling of the action. I don't know what brand his was, it was wicked slick though.

I have one and love it. I hate having to shoot without one now because it is so noisy!! Will eventually get a couple of suppressors to cover all my calibers, but right now I have a big one for my 338 LM and can use that for the smaller calibers. I know the people shooting next to me appreciate it to because the muzzle brake on the 338 LM sucks to be next to it when it goes off. I have a Shark suppressor and I got that one because a guy I know is buddies with the owner. It took about 3 months to get mine approved.

Yep, got a can. Picked up a .223 can and you can shoot .22's out of it too. Only issue becomes the round going supersonic. If it stays subsonic, very little noise. You get the crack when it breaks the sound barrier. I've got a 9mm enroute for the S&W 76 submachine gun.

Look at Gem-Tech's stuff http://www.gem-tech.com/store/pc/home.asp which are one of the tops.

Yankee Hill Machine makes a good inexpensive can.

I saw the Gem-Tech stuff, thought the Coyote version would probably be the thing. Do you send the barrel in to them to do or have your fave smith do the work? That gun is so wicked accurate right now I hesitate to hose with it, but thought the can looks so fun. Am lining up 4-5 days of dogging for early June. Going in quiet would be the teets.

Smart thing to do is send in the gun to be fitted. That helps eliminate the possibilty of baffle strikes, which can destroy the can. If you lokal gunsmith whips out his handy dandy Advance Auto pipe threader to thread the end of the barrel, that's what you get. If he's off center, you're getting ready to waste a can and money.

Send it in and have it done right. Your point of impact may change with the addition of the can, because it changes the harmonics of the barrel. Some do, some don't. Make sure you zero with and without the can for reference points.

Your point of impact changes because the weight of the can moves the barrel down.

Most folks say it is because of "barrel whip" I'm not sure. I know I have a heavy barreled 11.5" .223 upper that probably doesn't bend, but the POI changes. Who knows.

I'm putting it on 26" heavy barrel, would that get barrel whip from a 50 grain vmax moly 223? They want the trigger and scope pulled just not overly tickled about pulling all that apart. I hate taking things apart after I get it dialed in.

I was told that by the guy that makes shark suppressors when i was out shooting with him when I got my suppressor. It makes sense to me, it is a lot of weight going on the end of the barrel.

His reason also for a suppressor improving accuracy was just because of the noise reduction. I know I love my suppressor just for that!!

What a great firearm related day. Around noon my UPS guy shows up with 500 rounds of ammo. About an hour later the gun shop calls to inform me my carbine is in.

Depending on snowfall I may have to take a Saturday trip out to the West desert to break it in. I picked up a Magpul Pmag for the .308 as well, I'm hoping that solves my feeding problems.

Pretty much a firearm jong. I've been hunting a number of times, have killed a deer and some quail. Somehow I actually have much more experience dressing/quartering animals than killing them...

So, please point me in the right direction. I have an idea of what I'm looking for, but want some input.

I'm looking for something with the following qualities-

    -Rifle
    -Semi Auto
    -Reliable
    -Accurate
-Utility to handle for a wide variety of applications- home defense, hunting in a pinch.
    -I'm thinking carbine
-Stopping power enough to drop a deer or elk with a reasonably well placed shot.
    -Readily available ammunition.

I know that I'm probably asking for said rifle to do too much, but what do you guys recommend?

Simple answer. AR-10 in .308 with collapsible stock and 16" barrel. DPMS, Armalite, etc. Get the flat top upper, with Back Up Iron Sights "BUIS" and slap a 3x9 scope on it with quick detach mounts.

On second thought, here's a nice little unit that fits the bill. Little pricey at $12k

Is that a Daniels Defense AR? Its good looking!

Speaking of mags, I have nothing but Brownells 30 rounders and have had some feeding issues with them. I'd like some pmags but dont wanna pay $18+ per.

If you want mags, jump quickly.

New bill getting ready to circulate after the Arizona shooting to eliminate hi-caps, and the transfer of existing hi-caps.

I hear ya, but I dont think McCarthy's bill will pass. She does this everytime after an event like AZ.

I know, but for a brief period, she has a platform. Unfortunately, same thing used at Virginia Tech.

I stocked up on pmags at about 12 bucks per years ago. I think I still have about 10 or 12 in sealed bags.

Yup, it's a Daniel Defense, thanks. I took it out last weekend and ran 160 trouble free rounds through it. Although it doesn't quite bring the hate like the .308, it is a pretty fun gun to shoot.

I'm thinking my next investment in the gun world will be a reloading set-up. I already pick up all my brass, so I figure I may as well do something with it. As much as I shoot it shouldn't take long for me to break even, and after that it's a lot cheaper to shoot.

Anyone have any recommendations on a basic set-up?
