No worries. It was admittedly a bit aggressive processing in LR3 that is showing up. I did wonder how noticeable it would be to someone else, and now I know the answer. Need to keep an eye on it and tone it down next time.

These cement pilings were exposed this summer after 90 years underwater leading to the demise of these mussels.

The first of two waterfalls that took hours of major bushwhacking to reach on Saturday.

You know more or as much as I do I'm sure. They definitely look like Zebra mussels with some native mussels mixed in maybe. I don't hear much about quaggas around here so I'm thinking they must not be here yet. Here is a better picture for identifying these particular mollusks.

My wife was recently out on a boat with some contractors that specialize in looking for native mussels on a different waterway and they found them.
The following two shots are not my pictures.

She is holding one that they found and it is a native North American mussel of some sort.

Probably a variant of one of these:

I wish I knew enough to look around for natives while I was up there.

man lots of prettiness on this page.

uglymoney, that followup shot is really interesting. Definitely look like a lot of zebras in there. it's really interesting reading about how they alter ecosystem balance.

outabounds ... great capture. how much room to the right of your tripod?

Chad man that snowfall shot has some great soft light and texture. lovin the partially covered creek that'll be gone soon!

I'd say it was worth it. I'm not a huge fan of long-exposure waterfall/stream shots (due to over-exposure (no pun intended)), but that is one spectacular shot! The composition is just perfect.

about four inches? I spent a lot of time close to edges on Saturday. Really makes you miss the solid granite of the Sierras sometimes.

Lol. I know the feeling. I just about took the slide for life getting this pic. Bunch of loose Bryce gravel on a steep slope. A bit disconcerting when your holding a bunch of $$$ camera gear! I had tossed my wife my tripod to use as a walking stick for her to get down. What we do to "get the shot" sometimes amazes me.

How many times have I been on a very steep slope and thought "This wouldn't be so steep if I had skis on"?

Your Bryce Canyon shots are great. I'd love to get back there someday.

^^ That's great. Can I steal it for my next blog post?

If you ever get back this way, let me know. I'll hook you up with the beta on some cool places to see and shoot. I'd love to see what you could do with this site....

Haha that's great, just got me chuckling about that volcanic breccia how big of a dropoff? scary ... but also type 2 fun. Not fun while you're taking the shot, but afterwards ... well at least you try to convince yourself it was worth it
