No, there's some heavy PP'ing done to those shots, although it was shot at a higher ISO and in a fairly dark room. I was just messing around with the shots and I liked the way these ended up looking. Definitely different from what I usually do, that's for sure.

That makes sense. I usually work with film, so I have a pretty shitty eye for any digital-related issues.

Like the first one. I've also been playing around with some muted-color processing recently. Gives a different feel to the images than usual.

Agreed. Stepping you game WAY up lately...

Here is one from yesterday. Right out of the camera as I'm on the road, but too cool not to share even in this unprocessed state....

/\/\ awesome! Do you all process your stuff all the time? Also I just got Lightroom anyone know where I can find some good presets?
People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

Thanks. I've had a rekindling of my interest in photography, and the 35mm f/1.4L lens doesn't hurt -- hard to take a bad shot with that lens.

That is sweet! I bet the good processed version will be worthy of hanging up.

I do process all my shots in Lightroom. Usually nothing too fancy, maybe 15-30 seconds per image, unless I'm playing around a bit more with split toning or something. LR already has some preset effects on the left-hand side of the Develop tab that you can play with. Or are you looking for more presets beyond those? Just googling Lightroom presets gives lots of results (although I've never tried any of them yet).

Fantastic set of images. Curious - what mode are you shooting in? I shoot RAW with all in-camera processing settings (e.g. saturation, contrast, sharpening, etc.) at zero -- without PP my images look completely flat and bland.

    Fuzz,

I shoot in Raw and Jpeg. When I say there is "no post" it isn't 100% true because the camera does some image processing on the jpg's, which I post here (Noise reduction on, usually A +1 on contrast, +1 on sat, and +2 or +3 on sharpness (out of 3)). For the Star/lightning photo, I had the NR turned off becuase it takes forever to process on lone exposures. I'll take the RAW files and "re-process" them when I get home. So when I say, "no post" it means I haven't worked up the raw files...

Taken a while back, but first attempts at tilt-shift processing:

I might have to turn in my man card for this, but I think pikas are cute little guys.

Hey Fuzz what software are you using for that? Looks cleanly done so props on that.

First one looks interesting but I wonder if the lens you used to capture the original image may have been a bit long for the technique? Only because for some reason the Ferris Wheel looks unnaturally large to me.

On the second one, it might be more interesting to see the face of one of the buses in the focus plane.

Lightroom 3 - graduated filter with -100 sharpness. In looking more at these, I have to do a more gradual blur -- right now the line is too sharp.

I shot this in 2003 with a Nikon Coolpix 5700 (71mm at f/4.2). I didn't even know about tilt-shift at the time and had no intention of processing it as such. So you are correct. I think wide-angle images work better.

On the second one, it might be more interesting to see the face of one of the buses in the focus plane.
Yeah, I struggled a bit about which parts to keep in focus. I think I was trying to get the in-focus strip too narrow, and could probably widen it and still maintain the effect.

It was cold, windy, and flurrying, I was bored, watching my son who is recovering from an illness, so decided to experiment.

Fall is definitely winding down, and the heavy snow will soon follow. Chile out this morning.
