It's boarders like those girls that give them a horrible reputation. I'd have no problem if they wanted to poach in peace; go, board down safely, then head out of there. No reason to cut off kids and other people.

looks like lots of folks on the Burton board aren't too fond either. and those are the posts that they haven't deleted already. burton marketing tools really fucked this one up.

Quite an interesting read. There is a reasonable amount of anger towards Burton for fucking the image of boarding, well apart from the madz crew who think its sick and core.
There's good history of mass trespasses, but done in this stupidly aggressive way will not win anyone over.
I think it's all part of an image makeover for the chairman of the boarder(s)... From what I hear, he's telling everyone at Burton he wants to be called "Jake the Snake" from now on. (And when called that, he "shoots" you with his finger, then blows the "smoke" off... )![]()
Screw the net, Surf the backcountry!
Nor should they, aside from his largeness he is a good dude. I have attended that party many times on a snowboard and never had a problem. Most of the people that talk shit at Alta are new to the canyon, 1st to 3rd year "LOCALS" or tourists, who gives a shit what they think anyway?
I learned 2 things when I lived in Alta.
1)If you are worthy of respect you will be respected!
2)People who do not give respect do not deserve ANY respect!

How are you supposed to feel equal when you cant even buy a ticket?
I think that Burton has reached a point where they don't care what those resorts think about snowboarding anymore. After 20+ years of snowboarding in the resorts, If they have not accepted us yet they probably never will. I think that they are returning the middle finger with their own version of it, and as long as no innocent bystanders get hurt I think it is funny.![]()
It would be sweet if some skiers, using their superior intellect and creativity came up with a video and took the 5K.
If I was half as cool as those totally rad bitchin' guys think they are, I'd be the coolest guy in town. FUCKTARDS.
That Burton forum is a shitshow.

I understand why Alta and DV don't allow snowboarding. It is a business model that is based on public perception about snowboarders and it works. I hate that Alta in particular doesn't allow snowboarders though. I don't think the terrain is that great...infact, i think the bird and solitude are better. The part I hate is when all my friends want to hit Alta for some odd reason, and I'm the only one that can't since I'm on a board(none of my friends snowboard, they are all skiers).
Edit: I think poaching isn't such a big deal as long as the boarders are respectful. That said, what Burton is doing is just plain fucked up. It is going to attract all the wrong types of snowboarders and just make relations worse and give ski resorts justification for continuing disallowing snowboarding.

"JONG!!!!!" is the sound a lift tower makes when a gaper runs into it.

As several others - the majority - have pointed out in this thread, I really think this won't do snowboarders and snowboarding any good. Almost like Audun, the great big faggot, who decided that making an outerwear and apparel brand, named Perfect Line, for snowboarders against marijuana. This is a somewhat isolated incident, but here in Norway, snowboarders were ogled as mere drug addicts and pot smokers for 10-12 years, and this pissed the snowboarding community in Norway off majorly.
I think these two can be related. I think Burton in general sucks balls, and is a faggot asshat mainstream faggot brand, with questionable business ethics and shit quality boards and bindings. Rant over. I actually use a RED Trace helmet, because it is the only one I've tried that actually fits.
It's not true, however, that Burton owns half the major snowboard brands out there. They own Forum and Jeenyus, and that's it. Quiksilver owns a lot more, the difference being Quik owned manufacturers in general actually produce excellent gear. Think Mervin, DC, Rossi, Dynastar and so on.

It would have been better if the riders threw out free lift tickets, while being polite to everyone.
They could be like pied pipers, with dozens of folks booing at patrol for booting them.

Does anybody think that maybe so many people will attempt to film these videos that patrols won't be able to keep up, and change will be forced? Active protest is rarely successful when unorganized, but there is no way to actually plan an effective protest. The successful ones happen when people think they are acting spontaneously, but are actually just acting in the wishes of some powerful figure.
Is it gonna work? Probably not. But hey, cheers to rebellion.
Heh heh heh... that reminded me of a lame but lucrative commercial I was in several years ago. At the end of the longer commercial, you'll see I "poached" Alta... they own the road on their property, right?

:30 version -
While I was at Alta, I did talk to the manager guy for a while (nice guy)... he essentially told me that once the current regime of old folks is gone, Alta will likely open it's doors to snowboarding.
As for the Burton vids... my guess is a production company is behind them so these videos are about as "real" as reality TV. Shame on Burton for continuing negative stereotypes though.
I love snowboarding, but I don't like snowboarders that act like douchebags.
I love skiing, but I don't like skiers that act like douchebags.
i think that the idea could have stemmed from what snowboarders did before they were allowed at any resort. if it were portrayed like that, then it wouldn't have seemed like they were telling people to go poach and act like assholes to everyone on the mountain.
Never really thought of that side of it before. That must really suck.I have often thought that snowboards should have their own mountain as well.
Come on skiers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's give them one!
My vote is Northstar. It's all yours guys.
Anyone think of a better one?
we did that all the time at KMart, Stowe, Jay, etc waaay back in the day before acceptance.
We often rode at night, most snowmaking crews didn't give a shit.
Sometimes it was a chase from patrol, most of the time folks saw that we could ride, and most thought it was kinda cool.
We didn't have edges or anything.
Learned us good.
