I think jwolter is just mad that Lou Dawson is a raving born-again Christian freak who worships expensive new gear replaced often, as much as he worships his own personalized and distorted image of Jesus of Nazareth. Basically jwolter is angry that Lou Dawson's "WildSnow" website has gone from a core mountaineering site to a site that shills for every new development in gear, and in so doing, has seriously undercut the "stoke" for "core-ness" at Neptune.

What happened to the days of being able to take a 6 pack of good beer into a ski shop and actually get good service? A good ski tech is a dying breed, gone the way of the ski bum. And with 450 posts and technology the way it is, why hasn't another shop stepped up with an offer to take advantage of this business Neptune just lost? I had a bad experience at Neptune years ago when I was in Boulder and needed a binding repair, similar treatment only worse as the shop guy basically told me that I was a girl and didn't know what I was talking about. I came back with the ski rep (I called in every favor ever owed to me!) the next day and demanded to talk to the owner, received a much overdue apology and they have never had my business again. Shop owners just don't get it sometimes- athletes become incredibly loyal to great service techs and a little good service can potentially result in future money from referrals and repeat customers. I have no problem paying just a little more and being loyal to a particular brand or shop if I know that they are going to be there for me in the long run. And doesn't a good business owner want the business over a long period of time? Again- I miss the days of when a 6-pack of good beer went a long ways!
