Burton Promotes Poaching @ DV, MRG, Taos, Alta

    This is funny:

    http://burton.com/poachers/Default.aspx

Can't copy/paste from the stupid flash site, but basically they're offering a $5K bounty per resort to the person/crew that submits the best video of their poaching exploits at the four remaining areas that don't allow snowboards. Pretty funny if you ask me. I'm sure it will really endear the snowboarder community to those 4 holdouts.

Personally I couldn't give a shit about Taos and Mad River Glen (although I do recall some great glad skiing there when I was about 12). But I sure would love to rip up that beautiful corduroy at Deer Valley and some of the awesome pow and steeps at Alta.

i love how in the 10 Commandments section Commandment # 2 is: "Always buy a ticket."

Um, isn't Poaching when you don't buy a ticket and basically sneak onto a resort and ride the runs without paying?

in terms of the promo "Poachers" video they currently have up on the site Taos looks to be the most hardcore with gestapo Patrollers who actually chased the boarders down, tackled them, collared them, and then detained them. It's unclear if they kept their gear (there are a couple of shots where the patrollers look to be confiscating the rider's boards), but the closing shot shows the 3 boarders returning to the parking lot sans gear.

No busted knees and you call that Gestapo? I'd expect them to be crawling back to their car.

All the boarders at my local mountains are gapers, but I'd love to see a mag/non-gaper rip Deer Valley. Old skiers/families would shit themselves!

Sorry, doing backcountry from Brighton with a run out to Sunnyside is not "poaching" Alta. Lame. People do that all the time. Hiking from Snowbird and hitting Main Chute on a bluebird pow day on a weekend and then outrunning the patrol; NOW THAT would be much more respectable.

(Not to mention that it would actually take some balls)

I thaught it that was pretty funny, got a real kick out of the Taos guys freaking out. The video of the group at Deer Valley is one of the reasons I think snowboarders get a bad rap, besides shaving. Reminds me of a scene at Steamboat where a boarder almost hit my wife who was pregnant and my 3 year old on the same run. The confrontation at the lift line was interesting, but he shut up early enough to live another day. Afterwards I thaught it was funny how his crew decided he needed a some space to be able to affectively hear what I had to say.

Cutting off beginners at Deer Valley is sick!!!!!!!!

    EDIT:
isnt that b/c terrain between Brighon and Alta? Gang-skiing that uncontrolled slope is also the uber-gnar. Way to go with the family plan, dumbshits!

I'll find it a lot more amusing when it doesn't end up getting someone hurt outside of a resorts insurance policy, thereby fucking over not only the resort but those who have faithfully skied there for years and years. That or not getting a bunch of douchebag boarders and douchebags skiers into a big shit-fest that ends in a similar way.

Actually after watching the videos, I can only see this end poorly for the resorts, those doing it AND Burton. But its SOOOOOOO CORE DUUUUUUDE!!!!!!1111

Oh, and he said "niche." Not "nitch." And poaching a green at deer valley is hella gangsta. I do think it is a bit retarded that boarding is prohibited some places, but this type of a campaign is only going to solidify those rules because they're going to end up with a bunch of asshats who fuck with the skiing patronage and piss off top-dollar customers, not exactly the way to win over management. But hey, its totally gnar.

Wow after that video I am sure that all 4 of those resorts will be more than happy to change their policy. That was retarded!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to point out that not having snowboarders at Deer Valley is not the reason they have no bums or drunks in the parking lot; Its because Deer Valley sucks.

that was harmless fun, for the most part. except for the boards all cutting people off and getting way too close to others on the runs. i found it quite entertaining to see the skiers/patrollers get in such an uproar over something so trivial.

AFAIK Taos offers nothing that I can't find in places like Tahoe, CO, UT or WY so I can't see any real reason to make a trip there.

But I do like that WTF image. I may borrow it at some point. Thanks.

This was kind of funny too:
A 42-year-old man threatened to stab a teenage snowboarder with his ski pole after the 17-year-old ran into the man's girlfriend at Arapahoe Basin, police said.

The teenager told a sheriff's deputy that Frank Furlott, of Loveland, hit him in the face and neck with his ski poles after the collision, saying, "I'm gonna (expletive) kill you. I'm gonna stab my pole through your heart."

I'm surprised something like this didn't happen in their Deer Valley video. What a bunch of idiots...

Personally I hate snowboarding but, that is some funny shit!! Just because I hate snowboarding I still reconize the fact that without them, we may not have all the resorts to ski at in the first place. If every place banned snowboarders then revenues would drastically drop reducing the amount of capital these places put back into their places.

I'm not sure what I would do if I couldn't ski right down to the bottom of the hill and buy a $5 cup of Stabucks hand my skis to some hotel valet then buy a $900 Spyder one-piece suit then walk around the village shopping for overpiced, brand name shit that someone could buy at any yuppie ass mall.

But, then again I'm a professional poser/gaper by nature. Can't wait to see what funny vids come out of this.

    The Alta poach was pathetic.

A few boarders seem to make it over to the High Boy party every year. Of course, nobody in their right mind would give Doobie shit.

It's not even poaching at Alta. This has been explained before but the snowboard ban at alta extends to the lift not the terrain. So maybe the video of snowboarders at Alta will show someone busting a steezy melon grab while riding a lift.

Wow. Snowboarders are such rebellious outsiders. That's why they're in big commercials for huge corporations like American Express, Mt. Dew, etc., etc.

Way to "stick it to the man", losers. You're more mainstream than skiing could ever hope to be.
