Excellent, this challenge gives me a reason to "bulk up" before Jan 1st.

like last time, i'm actually planning on "losing a lot" before january 1st. it's going to put me at a serious disadvantage, but i'm not going to delay my return to aggressive weight-loss because of the timing of next year's challenge..

wait a minute.. that's a good question.. why are we waiting?

Why not just start on December 1st.. it'll help us stay relatively disciplined over Hanukkah.

I'd like to wait till New Years cause my wife is giving birth on December 4th and I doubt I'll have any time to deviote to exercise for at least the first several weeks.

Which translates to: I'm going to have plenty of sexual frustration to work off and will soon be sleep deprived...

well, after the weekend's marathon, I am officially back in weight-loss mode. I will resume marathon mode in the spring, hopefully after another 50 lbs or so.

I won't yet be "normal weight," but I'll be pretty psyched when i get another 50 lbs off me.

Here's a very-flattering "before" picture (from before the race)

and a not-so flattering "before picture (from the half-marathon point)

I'll start on Dec. 1st. I'm in for the fun of it and hope to get to where I really want to be (i've come a long way as ya'll know, but I'd still like to be in on this)

And maybe someday I'll put before and after pics...maybe in Feb. or something.

Oh, and I just realized I want to look great for our Costa Rica trip Jan 6th-14th, so we should definitely start on Dec. 1st

I say we continue this thread. There's a lot of stoke in it and that stoke serves as motivation.

Oh yeah, played 105 games of tennis over the Thanksgiving weekend (tournament), and I still weighed in on Sunday at 203....damn.

    two bits of news..

first, i registered for my first ultramarathon! it's on april 20th in northwestern connecticut if anybody's interested. 50k, but they also have 50mile and 100k options.

second, and equally significant (to me, anyway), is I walked into an EMS tonight. They had a sale on their private-label gear, and was curious, but didn't think I'd buy anything.

<rewind period="yesterday">first ski day of the year, and my pants are way too big</rewind>

I notice the rack of EMS ski pants and take a look. figuring "no way", I take a pair of XLs into the dressing room. They fit perfectly, as in XXL would have been to big.

    Two significant points about this:
I can now walk into your average store and walk out with a pair of pants that fit me (Big and tall stores suck, they're so overpriced and the selection leaves much to be desired.)
In fact, the largest size they had (XXL) was too big for me.

    (:

270.6 this morning. just 12 lbs until not obese anymore, just overweight. (:

Holy crap steve, you've lost 20 lbs since Turkey day? Wow, impressive!

Are you doing the "only 1000 calories" a day thing again?

A bit late but I'd like to get in on this.

    Just want to be healthier.
Plan: reduce portion size and exercise more, drink less.

I know I'm late to the party; no GF right now (prolly cause I'm to fat and out of shape, haha), so no nude picks available for late joining penalty.

It's never too late to start. One thing that will really help, is drink tons of water each day. I was never really conscious of it, but over the past 1.5 years drinking tons of water along with lots of exercise and diet changes has played a big role in my road to a healthier life.
