That may be the call. I also like the sounds of shooting the bow. Can we ignite the arrows ala Dukes of Hazzard? (Let's see how red Sprite really is.)

    Noooooo!!!

Leave the fireworks @ home, or risk incurring the evil wrath of Sprite!

We have a gigantical propane tank smack in the middle of my yard (I know, I know...don't look @ me--I didn't put it there!). I like my house and don't want it to burn down...

come on, wheres your sense of adventure. Were willing to slide down a mountain at 50 mph on 2 2x4's weaving in and out of trees. And your afraid of a little explosion or 2?
if we got a vid of the explosion and a TR of the resulting crater/fall out we might get the nomination for best ullrfest ever

I just turned in my second-to-last midterm...so fucking stoked. I got some new gear in the mail today, so I'm looking forward to using it. We'll have 2 mtb's but I don't know what she's going to do. And we'll be there Friday night. And we'll be bring copious amounts of beer and food (don't know how many camping chairs yet). And, we know that his is your homework, Larry. Have you ever heard of Vietnam?

Seems I lost my train of thought.

The Mrs would like to know if there'll be a place to shower. I told her the streams and creeks are much cleaner up there than here, so they'd be ample, but I'm afraid that didn't work. Then I explained that we were actually going to be at a house, not camping in the middle of nowhere.

Bumpskier, how early would you want to ride saturday and how long?

Jepilot, when the Mrs. sees the sprite abode, she'll fall in love with it and want to move in. You have been forewarned.

So, last night on Mythbusters, they had a show devoted to "snow myths." One of them was whether the human voice could set off avalanches. In the end, of course, the yodeler couldn't do it, but those sticks of dynamite thrown from the heli did it. We could set up their "in-house model experiment" and see what happens: A bag of flour, a pegboard set at various slope angles, and a megaphone. On the show, they were able to get the flour to slide with the human voice via megaphone (it's just in the real-life scenario at Telluride, it didn't work).

If sprite wasn't so uptight about the fireworks, one could stand in as a stick of dynamite, but I guess that's out.

I am pretty sure Nils sister and fiance would like to ride as well. They are staying at casa de Bumpskier & Bluebird, so let me find out what time they expect to arrive on Saturday.

We know a good xc loop about 10 minutes from Sprite's house. We have options and can do a 9 mile loop (~1.5) or a 13 (1.5-2 hr) mile loop. If we started from Sprite's house and rode to the "trail head" add an additional 5.9 miles, otherwise we drive up (which is FINE with me).

SOOO, how many people are in for the mtn. bike ride? Bluebird, myself, jepilot +1, Miss hoodie and Stupidfresh so far. Oh, and Sprite on the fence.

I haven't ridden my mtn. bike since the 50. Should be interesting.

Oh and Jepilot - what kind of riding is your mrs. used to? How technical?

Some pics of the stomping grounds...to give you an idea of where you can camp. We will have the bonfire here:

looking back from the path into the woods (cue "dueling banjos")

    Nice flat spot to camp:

Another nice spot way back in the woods for those who do not fear bears, moose, and hillbillies

She's mainly only been on fire roads and some mellow single track. But, she's been sick, so I don't know if she'll join us for our ride (maybe just debauchery). I think it will be a game-time decision. I'm good for pretty much anything though. I also haven't been on the saddle in a while, so it should be interesting.

EDIT:Sheskistrees, I saw that one a while ago. I was thinking that they should have had someone do a cut across the slope to see how much humans can actually do sans tnt

I agree. We were rather surprised that they did NOT show how easy it is for someone to set off an avalanche just by being there.
