A large system moved into Colorado on the 9th of October and still hasn't let go in the high country. We've had a little over 4 straight days of unsettled weather and periods of heavy snow. I've never seen this much snow dump on Colorado this early in the season. Roads were shut down, schools and work cancelled, and the Colorado Crew came out of the woodwork to feed on some pow.

Day 1 I met up with SheRa, Blurred, Evil E, and PowderPig for a dawn patrol on Loveland Pass. A good 25 or so inches dumped up on top of the pass, which made for a very nice morning. Shit eating grins were worn after a few laps of fairly light blower pow. It was hard to leave, but I knew the next day would bring more. Headed back into the city for work and could only think about what the next day would bring for the rest of the afternoon.

Day 2 brought more of the same and a nice long tour. Met up with Wahamma 88, Jon Pierre and Kya for a Jones Pass/Butler Gulch supertour. Day started partly cloudy, but once we got above treeline we got socked in by more snow. Visibility sucked by the time we reached the ridge at 12,500', so we waited it out until we got a small window to make turns down the east face. Vertigo got the best of us as there were no landmarks, not even rocks sticking out to see where we were going. We made it down to the flats and then traversed over to the southern ridge of the Jones Pass basin. A nice and steep climb up to the ridge and we were on our way to a nice shot we scoped out earlier in the day. The weather broke just as we reached the entrance to the snowfield, and we were amazed by the coverage below. Kya dropped in first and made some nice swooping turns down the face. The rest of the crew followed and were not disappointed. A second lap of the face was in order, so despite our tired legs we booted back up and went for it again.

We ended up tacking on over 3,500' of turns and over 6.5 miles of skinning. Not a bad tour for the second week of October.

Good to see more early season madness. Can't wait to see the front page fill with more skiing related material as the snow continues to fall.

Heh, thanks man. I think it took me longer to figure out how to send the file to you than it did to edit. Damn email file size limitations . Time to upgrade to something better than windows movie maker.

    FKNA, Dave - nice work!

The sequence where you are driving through the forest on the small road with all the trees covered in a thick layer of snow is awesome. Just by watching it, I can feel the anticipation for what's coming up next...

Holy shit that's an awesome video. I can't believe it was that deep and light this early in the year. I can't wait until my first day out. I promise, one of these days I'm going to sack up and get some avy gear and join you guys.

Now all I have to do is get a kick-ass job like Iskibc and I'll be good to go.
