Post VT Ullrfest 2008: October 20th!

It's that time again, to gather with friends, burn wood in a bonfire (NOT skis!!!), build a ski chair, and eat/drink/make merry!

This year, Ullrfest will be very special because it is being held in honor of our departed friend, Nils.

What better way to honor our friend than to toast the God of snow, gather together and celebrate life, and share our love of the fluffy white stuff? He really wanted to be there this year, and in a sense he will be because he is there in our thoughts and in our hearts.

There has been some discussion about making a chair out of skis at Ullrfest and presenting it to Nils' parents. They have a nice backyard, and it would be a cool reminder of the love Nils' friends have for him (and them). So if you have used skis to donate to the cause, please email snowspritect@aol.com.

We also will likely plan a road bike or mtn bike ride for Saturday. Anyone have any preferences/other ideas? Chime in here!

Please post your ideas here...and let us know if you think you can make it, what you can bring, any special talents you are willing to display (hee hee!).

    And above all...think SNOW!

Yay! I have been waiting on tetherhooks for this thread!

The mathematician and I will be there after staying in a b&b somewhere in southern vt on friday night (checking out a few now), and we are down for a road ride or mtn bike ride sat... Bluebird suggested maybe a road ride to Long Trail brewery which could be a cool "tribute to Nils" kind of thing...

also think the ski chair for the Nissens is an awesome idea.

Terri, thank you so much for planning and hosting this! Anyone who is on the fence about coming should absolutely try and get there last year was a great time.

ps- can i request not as many kzone dorks this year please?

I have plenty of skis. I'll only bring them if we can burn some.

    Deal?

YOu'll have to get through Bumpskier first. She is the head of the anti-ski burning contingent. Something about it being bad for the environment....

she'll get over it. this is ullrfest, and the burning skis is mandatory.

how about if we commit to building a chair first, and then whatever is left over we can burn?

speaking of, i have an idea about the chair... not to take anything away from the family, but how cool would it be if we could put make a nice one in honor of nils, get it engraved somehow maybe with a plaque, and put it permanently somewhere that a lot of people would see it- maybe somewhere that meant something to nils? Like somewhere at a ski area, or on a mountain bike trail that he really loved, or something like that? It might be a cool and a lasting tribute to our friend... just a thought.

Good luck. TacoDip would have a pocket protector if they still made 'em. Likely knows her way around a slide rule. Good luck!!

Damn this sounds like one strong party. I likely won't make it, so my vote doesn't count for doodoo, but i vote for two ski couches/loveseats, one for the Plakespear P's, one for TacoDip's idea. Have some 204 or 207 Rossi 4S's to donate for the furniture, not the fire

I probably have some skis to donate to the cause. Not sure if I'm the proper demographic for the actual party, but I'll let you guys know about the skis.

    WTF just happened?

gee, I thought I double-posted my message 5 times. so i deleted one of them and all 5 were gone.

    arg.

anyway, what i said was i'm not cancelling a marathon, and that wasn't the problem anyway. neither was the wedding the next day. it was the fact that alex had planned on spending the day saturday in providence with S&N.

do we know how to use power tools? I was born with a nailgun in one hand and an impact driver in the other.

also, what kind of bike ride are people thinking, I have my DH bike out here, or are people thinking of a more XC ride
