Not stating it as a fact. But it sure looks like it to me. As perhaps you might expect.
That's a hell of an excuse, even for a Red Sox fan.

Dice-K's problem is that he throws WAY too many fastballs. He got by with that shit in Japan because he was facing inferior hitters. Now he's facing the best in the world, every night he goes out there, and he can't do that. He's got a control problem, so he gets behind in the counts a lot- and when he does that, he has to throw the fastball even more. 94-95 doesn't mean shit in the major leagues if it doesn't move.

I think he just doesn't get the benefit of the doubt that some solid veteran American pitchers do--he is a rookie here, and he gets called accordingly, I think (although he might have received better treatment in Japan). What strikes me as really strange is how much better Okajima has done in adjusting. He basically said that after he got blasted against the first batter he ever faced he realized that he was going to have to change his approach--something I don't think Dice-K has done. Dice does seem to have this tendency to start to fall behind and then throw a pretty predictable fastball...hopefully he gets his shit back together before long, because sometimes he has amazing stuff.

Looking forward to seeing Mussina return to his 7 runs per start form...

Ian Kennedy tonight- 7 innings, 1 hit. He has now given up a total of 5 runs in his three starts. Not bad. Next year's rotation is looking awfully good (and young) with Wang, Hughes, Kennedy, and Chamberlain.

Sure, the dugout is full of homegrown "talent," but the guys who are out on the field are still getting paid $20 million each.

I say you should get rid of that jerk ARod and go to war with Andy Phillips. That kid's a gamer.

Do you even know what you're talking about? Melky Cabrera, Cano, Chamberlain, Hughes, and Kennedy all make (just about) the major league minimum. Add those 5 guys to Pettite, Rivera, Jeter, and Posada, and I challenge you to find 5 other teams with the same amount of CONTRIBUTING home grown talent.

Speaking of the Spankees....WTF is going on here? Some homo-erotic fantasies being played out by Jeter, Gay-Rod, etc.

Just to answer your question - the Angels have more homegrown contributing talent. As do the Rockies. As do the Phillies. As do the Braves. I could probably generate a longer list, but chances are you'll just argue about your emphasis of the word contributing and say how much better the yankees are anyways.

You didn't do well on the data sufficiency portion of the GMAT, did you?

Well, out of the above list, the only one of the cheap guys who is a full-time player is Cano. Cabrera's a 4th OF who has been forced into extra playing time because the crazily expensive Damon, Matsui, Giambi, etc. have been hurt. Chamberlain, Hughes and Kennedy probably do not have 80 MLB IP combined. Pettitte, Rivera, Cap'n Intangibles, and Posada are part of the $20 million a year club. With all that said, the Yanks are an 85-win team without ARod this year. I can't wait until he leaves.

If the Yankees didnt have the ability to pay huge sums of money to these players, theyd go to other teams, just like what happens to any other free agent. Im not saying its right or wrong or there arent a few other teams that have this capability. Just dont disguise it and bullshit yourself into thinking the Yankees are somehow a minor league roster of "suprise" or "under the radar" players. Torii Hunter wont be a Twin next year because his salary demands will be too high and the Twins cant afford it. That would never happen in NY.

i think Brock has it right though.
teams like the sox and yanks can afford to hang on to their homegrown talent even after the players develop and become big names.

and at the same time they can go after the big name players from other teams once they reach free agency, so they arent forced to trade off good prospects to build a solid current team.
