The team with the best record automatically plays the wild card, right?

That's what I thought. In that case I think I'd rather see the Yanks than the Mariners, since the Sox are cursed at Safeco. (careful what you wish for though, I know)

If the Yanks are the WC, they would probably play the Angels first round, as the WC can't play a team in their own division first round. If Seattle wins, they would play the Sox first round, as WC plays team w/ best record, except as above.

Thats not true, you cannot play within the division, thats why the Sox have always ended up playing the Yanks in the ALCS. If the playoffs started today, I believe it'd be Angels vs. Boston and NYY vs. Cleveland in the ALDS.

The other thing to remember is that the format for a five game playoff (ALDS) is 2 at home, 2 away, 1 at home...the Sox would have homefield advantage, so if the Mariners pull it off, Safeco shouldn't be too much of an issue. PLUS, the Mariners don't have the pitching to last too long in the playoffs.

Isn't that what I said? WC plays the best record, unless they are in the same division. If so, they play the next best record, which is the Angels.

    Rick Ankiel

What a story this guy's been! He just continues to knock the snot out of the ball. 2 HR, a double, four runs scored, and 7 RBI in today's game. Not bad for an ex-pitcher.

Pretty sad story actually, just linked to HGH purchased in 2004.

I hope he gets shut down, if Selig doesn't do anything about this next crop of cheaters coming up, they should remove his ass too.

You mean HGH? Was it even banned by MLB back in 2004?

Heh... I dont' think anyone wants to play the Yankees right now. They're mashing the ball, and their young pitching is money (so is the Sox, I must say).

Just got back from the Sox-O's game. That wasn't much fun although it was nice to see Papi mashing. Matsuzaka couldn't throw a strike (or at least get one called, a lot of those pitches looked pretty good from the cheap seats). Hansack looked pretty sharp too.

Want to see a Red Sox home game? Go to Camden Yards, apparently. Holy shit, I've never seen anything like that. When we got there, early, it was well over 95% Sox fans. Absurd. Of course Sox fans were the only ones getting there ridiculously early, due to travel, but even during the game it was probably about 85% Sox fans. Almost felt bad for the few O's fans sounding pathetic trying to get 'Let's go O's' chants going--three voices doesn't do it.
Nice to see Beckett pitch well and get the win despite getting typically little run support. Camden Yards is a great park, will definitely be going back--and good seats are cheap!
Mucho thanks to Tipp and ice for massive help on the DC end of getting tickets.

Yeah, Camden Yards used to be a great place to see an Orioles game but Angelos has run it so far into the ground that even the D-Rays might finish ahead of us. If that does happen I hope that it will be the final straw for Angelos because Camden Yards is a great stadium and the Baltimore-DC old timers deserve a better product.

Jay Gibbons received HGH and some other steroids. Raffy Palmerio, Jerry Hairston, Tejada, Gibbons. I sense a pattern developing.

Yeah, I'm past it but as a lifelong O's fan why can't we sign the roid heads that can still hit. We signed Sosa after he'd gone off of the juice, what a dumb ass move. Along with many other dumb ass Angelos moves.

No, man, the Sox, that's the reason I went to Baltimore. Can't make that sort of trip to see the A's play.

I'm going to a wedding in Falmouth. I have half a line on some tickets for Sunday, but the guy's hedging like crazy.

I'm still bummed that you were down here and I didn't realize it, Dex. I don't know why I thought you were coming next weekend.
