I'll be there as well. Hopefully, this game will be for the Mets to clinch it.

Tonight is a "must-win" for the cards - it'll be very difficult for them to win 2 out of 2 at shea.
The mets are on a good streak - before the two losses to the cards, they had won 8 in a row (including 4 in the regular season). they've now won 9 of their last 11.

Winning 2 out of 2 at Shea is probably easier for the Cards then you think... it seems to me that the Mets (Betran especially) plays better on the road- not sure why. Also, it will be Maine and Traschel- not a lot of confidence there.

In any event, Let's go Mets!

Cardinals pitching on the road has a 5.19 ERA and .284 BAA.
Mets at home are 3.76 and .245, respectively.

As for Beltran, some say his poor home batting might be due to the lingering effects of all the boo's he heard in 2005.

Not so Steady Steve will not be the starter for game 7 - D Oliver will be after the performance he had cleaning up Steve's mess in game 3.

yea, trax walking off the field with his glove in his mouth said to me
"i shall never shame this franchise again"
    hope i was right.
yep, oliver would be the man for a game 7. as far as i'm concerned, he was the game 3 starter. trax made the shortest ever NLCS start.
don't think this will happen, but i believe duque could be brought in to take trax's roster spot if trax goes DL. it would be nice to see at least an inning in the 7th - if we have to wait that long to end this.
a rainout tonite would be huge...if mets win, they return to shea pumped and ready to close, st. louis comes to NY w/o travel day, and fearing the worst.
...and let's hear it for a gutsy outing from perez.

lastly. what was with st.louis' starter reyes' pink StL logo? as if the unbent brim didn't look silly enough...

I think Mets fans saw the last game ever pitched by Traschel in a Mets uniform.

Perez is young, strikes out a lot, and could very well be in the starting rotation next year after Peterson works with him.

List of potential starters at start of next year:
    1. Glavine (41 years old)
    2. Hernandez (64)
    3. Heilman (28)
    4. Maine (25)
    5. Bannister (26)
    6. Perez (25)
    7. Pelfry (23)
    8. Humber (24)

The future is bright as fuck.

Snoogens, you really think the Mets will take Heilman out of the pen? You'd think they would have done it already, he's not getting any younger.

I don't think the Mets didn't have thoughts about putting him in the starting rotation if they didn't give him the 2nd most starts in spring training. With that said, I don't know what the other factors were in him not being in the rotation this year. But clearly, when Sanchez went down, there was no option but have him as the setup man. As for next year, 7-8-9 will be dominated by Mota, Sanchez, and Wagner. Where does that leave Heilman? And since he has somewhat proven to be a rather decent starter, where else can you put him? Humber is coming off of Tommy John surgery...do you immediately allow the kid to pitch 200 innings or use him as a middle-inning guy?

You're off on Hernandez's age - he's 74 . The future does look so bright for the Mets with Beltran, Reyes and Wright signed to long term deals, this team is going to be strong for years to come.

for good or bad, seems peterson, randolph and maybe mets brass fell in love with heilman's pen work last year...and in spite of starting a season of winter ball, he got beaten out by bannister in the spring. i think the main reason heilman wasn't put out there as a starter (and guys like Lima(!!) and soler were) had to do with not wanting to increase his work load to that of a starter with the season underway - which i guess could carry some risk.

i do think the mets should groom him as a #2 or 3 over a young staff led by glavine. i think pedro is done, but i credit him as a transitional figure who drew great talent to the team by his presence. i wouldn't mind seeing duque return if he can stay healthy...and then we have:
    maine
    perez
    pelfrey
    humber
    bannister
    ???
to compete for those 2-3 spots.
a sick pen, even minul heilman (don't forget jose padilla, the other goggle-wearing hard thrower could be back in the mix next season)
    yes, a bright future indeed

i just wish kazmir hadn't been squandered on...zambrano!!

mets also need to go young/athletic in right. shawn green is like trax in the outfield, and if the mets fail to go to the WS, i'll have to thank him (and trax) for bad glovework in 3 key games. luckily his inability to cut off that gapper cleanly didn't matter last nite - but hitting to him's clearly gotta be part of every hitter's game plan now.

and now, let's hear it for...and i will no doubt be cursing the same thing in a couple of months should it appear:

    RAIN!!
