    Wagon Stoke

So on my way in to the shop this am, I got cut off by a newer murano, then following along after watched them absolutely batter the rear wheel cutting a corner too close to a sharp bend in the road I sort of chuckled to myself. I had just bought an older rogue from a customer- sort of bought, mostly stole for the price, it needs some love, of which I have plenty. I’m gonna make it into a shop beater /parts runner / yard mule. Or maybe I’ll sell it to Gravity….

    Raises hand.

Yeah, no. When did they drop the Datsun name? Right about the same time they stopped making good cars.

I remember when I was a little kid my Dad had a Datsun/Nissan Stanza as a commuter car that had both brand badges on the decklid. That had to be 85/86ish?

Could be. When I sold my 81 200SX and was looking at 85 Turbo 200s they had that same badge. I'd still kinda like to have one of those 85s.

well, I'm getting attached to this shitbox so I maybe i don't want to sell it. Maybe I just want to go out and run red lights, camp out in the left lane, swerve unexpectedly, cut off other cars and late merge all day. You had your chance buddy.

Very cool car. We need to bring back v10 turbo wagons.

Lot of interesting hardware in that driveway. A v10biturboavant; a lifted Jimny; a S2000...

Got a low oil light when I turned my P3 XC70 on this morning. When I popped the hood, the dipstick was pushed out ~1", presumably from positive CC pressure. Not uncommon, except I just replaced the oil trap last spring.

I go to check my oil, and the dipstick is literally caked in tan sludge top to bottom. I see posts on Swedespeed about small amounts of this sludge showing up on the filler cap in cold months, but nothing like this. And my filler cap is clean.

Last time I saw this color/consistency in an engine fluid was in college, on my '95 Saab 900SE Turbo, just before I had it hauled away with a bad HG/cracked block.

Best Case: PCV system needs replacing due to bad new part or my own incompetence. Moisture found its way into the dipstick because it had been pushed out for a while, and it has been hammering snow here for the last two weeks.

    Likely: Oil cooler

    Worst Case: Head gasket/chopping block

Silver Lining: I'll be passing Sprinters with my middle finger out the window in my 114hp RWD 240 until Montucky's boys at Autoworks can look into it on 1/30.

Welp, yesterday morning a City of Boulder plow cut me off and I ended up (likely) totaling our 2015 Subaru Forester XT. Ripped the rear driver's side door right off along with damage to the front door and rear panel, and barely scratched the plow blade. It was mainly my wife's car, but I loved driving it too and despite the bad rep Subarus get with their engine problems, ours was relatively problem-free over the 9 years we owned it.

I'm going to try and find a similar model year with lower mileage, but they're tough to come by. What other wagon'ish competitors should I also check out that has similar HP in an AWD wagon? So far I came up with the newer Outback XT and maybe the Ford Edge ST. Trying to keep it under $25k if possible for a used car with less than 75k miles.

Look at Mazda. No bullshit CVTs and an interior that you appreciate being in. Oh yeah, they're WAY more fun too.

RAV4 is a millennial’s Corolla. Ours has been completely reliable and is totally lackluster to drive. Our 2018 doesn’t have quite as much useable cargo space as I expected and the rear seats don’t fold flat. AWD and clearance are not as good as an Outback but I never felt uncomfortable driving through unplowed streets on 3 peak all seasons. We had the current gen non-hybrid as rental last spring and it was even more lethargic without the electric assist.

    For smmokans research purposes:
The first year of cx-5 with a turbo was 2019. Pre-2019 are solid vehicles but pretty underpowered if you're accustomed to more oomph. The AWD is ok.
The CX-50 is even better, with an AWD system rivaling subaru's. But its first year was 2023 so I don't think you can get a turbo one under 25k.

More: CX30 turbo from late '21 through 22 is the sweet spot. The earlier ones with cylinder deactivation are flukey and in 23 it came back and with covid parts mix-ups and shortages things may not always work as expected. That ironed out in '24 but the price on 24s is closer to $30k than 25.

Edit function not working? Not wagon related anymore so should probably move to the bobby's carfax and used car thread.

Thanks for the Mazda rec. Honestly, I find their looks to be pretty generic and blah (all the models basically look the same) and we really don't care about the interior. Truthfully, as long as it has a working radio and either bluetooth or a USB jack, the simpler the better. The new touch screens suck to use compared to old-school controls and dials, IMO.
