Apparently last some asshole with body armor and an AR shot up some event on a rampage before surrendering. Apparently some good guy with a gun tried to be a hero and died while shooting at the dude in body armor.. It remains to be determined if good guy's bullets nit any of the multiple other people injured/killed.

On the lighter side this was fucking hilarious!

Because handheld small arms are mostly used for suppressive fire in military applications? They aren't used as killing weapons. The vast majority of the kills in combat are done with heavy weapons. 5.56 firearms are lighter to carry and one can carry more ammo.

And, any use against the United States government/military or local law enforcement is treason regardless of whether or not you agree with the direction that government has gone.. You would be in violation of The Constitution.... 2nd A was never intended to allow for revolt against the US federal government. It was to allow for the slave patrols and defending the USA against other nations..
There is a market for frangible rounds.

They have far less range which isn't great for target practice. And they are more expensive.

In regards to your second paragraph, its not to allow violent revolt. its to be a check against violent oppression. checks and balances. Its a beautiful thing.

In the context of the late 18th century, I was under the impression that part of the rationale behind the second amendment was to allow for state-level citizen militias (yes, analogous to the modern National Guard) as they had proven so important in the early days of the Revolution and would be an effective check against the federal government turning into some sort of monarchy or dictatorship. Is that revisionist?
Its actually codified in the federal and state legal codes that the militia is every male within a certain age range.

False, "for the security of a free nation". Never intended to be a state's right to resist the United States Federal Government. See Civil War for proof of that fact..

How does America celebrate its birthday? By killing 13 people, and wounding several dozen more with gunfire.

Four dead, and several more shot in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Nine wounded in DC shooting spree. Two were kids.

One killed and six wounded in Salisbury, Maryland.

    Happy fucking fourth

Huh? You're not arguing with what I actually said. I literally said it isn't for that.

I like this quote because it has two, obviously outdated, notions tied together and then gleefully presented as useful.

Multiple.30 cal: .30-06 M1 Garand, .30-06 machine guns (two of the fuckers), .30 cal M1 Carbine. Then post war we have .308/7.62x51. the Right Arm of The Free World showed up in a lot of proxy wars. The soviets had all kinds of .30: 7.62x25, 7.62x39, 7.62x54r. that last one and the British .303 had longevity, spanning decades of conflicts, shit maybe even over a century of service here or there. .30 cal rules.

i find the caliber of conversation declines with these details instead of the overall point:

    too many guns

too easy to get a gun

no idea where the guns end up after purchase

    you're welcome

no, normal people don’t look at murder and suicide and carve it up they find it more acceptable and that their attitudes aren’t the reason it’s so prevalent.

    also, go fuck yourself.
