30 yo looking guy walking his baby in a stroller around the neighborhood. Seen him lots before but today he’s got a handgun on his hip open carry style.

He’s not breaking any laws. Always say hi to him.
I really would love to ask him why he feels he needs that to walk a baby through Sandy, UT. This is still weird to me to see.

He's either someone who puts politics before everything else, AKA a fucking idiot, or a monumental pussy.

Mexican gangbangers been casing him since before his wife got pregnant, they gonna steal his baby and force her into a life of prostitution. Gotta be strapped.

two bit of relevant news in the paper today to this thread:

    https://www.oregonlive.com/business/2023/06/road-safety-agency-will-require-automatic-emergency-braking-on-heavy-trucks-buses.html

The government will require heavy trucks and buses to include automatic emergency braking equipment within five years, the federal traffic safety agency said Thursday, estimating it will prevent nearly 20,000 crashes and save at least 155 lives a year.
    [clip]
AEB systems use forward-facing cameras and sensor technologies to detect when a crash is imminent. The system automatically applies the brakes if the driver has not done so, or, if needed, applies additional braking force to supplement the driver’s actions. The proposed standard would require the technology to work at speeds ranging from 6 to 50 miles per hour.

The American Trucking Associations, the industry’s largest lobbying group, welcomed the announcement.

“The trucking industry supports the use of proven safety technology like automatic emergency braking,” said Dan Horvath, the group’s vice president of safety policy. “With NHTSA’s recent regulation requiring AEB on all new passenger vehicles, this proposal for heavy duty trucks is timely and appropriate.’’
ATA seems to operate in an entirely different world from the NRA

In another example of "law abiding responsible gun owners" being themselves: guy who shot up the concert says he was hallucinating. He was active military (ie, a presumptively professionally trained gun owner) & had stored the gun safely in his truck (locked unloaded). And yet...

I believe the ATA primarily represents bigger companies, who can more readily look at the overall data and spend the money up front. I've read some significant bitching from organizations representing owner-operators, probably because they are less driven by the overall data.

Another interesting article in the Times; turns out that a lot of the recent gun sales did go into homes that previously didn't have guns:

I value it as part of our system of checks and balances, but no, I don't experience fear of impending government tyranny in my daily life. Shocking I know.

Although it shouldn't be that shocking when i've repeatedly talked about such things on a long timeline meta level perspective in this thread. Once those rights are gone they're gone forever and we're never getting them back, and yes, eventually mass murder by government or even corporations becomes a lot more possible and likely.

Whataboytism is comparing gun death to drug deaths.
Research shows that those with drug and alcohol abuse history are more likely to be involved in gun violence including suicide..

So based on these two facts, take away the guns and reduce harm by approx 60%.
Its not whataboutism when the majority of murders are drug and gang related. The OD deaths can be grouped with those murders to provide a meaningful instight into the true cost of those problems, if one doesn't have a truly myopic focus on guns and only guns, as well has hatred towards people who disagree with you about guns.

Anyone who thinks having a gun as a right to allow them to overthrow the current Gov't has worms in their brain. As a wise old man Leroy, I don't give a fk what you think.

Yes, yes I can see the truth of this.

Some ofyou seem to care about these problems, some of you just seem to like outrage porn and finding someone to hate because you're hateful angry people who I am glad don't own guns.

You guys see the mother of the uvalde shooter tweeting some bullshit about people should be thanking her son for their insurance payouts?

Its kinda gibberish word salad and doesn't even really make sense, but wow.

Not surprising he turned out how he did with a mother like her.
