I’ve definitely noticed white areas on my skis shedding effortlessly, while the darker spots are holding snow all day. I’m primarily in maritime snow. Also, a white ski is still 50% black, or whatever color the base happens to be. I’ve never had trouble finding a kicked shoe, especially if the scene of the crime is untouched. You could always get the green bases and just look for the glow!

Solution - ON3P Powder Leashes

I have the 181 K108 in a tour layup with more carbon, and the 184 W108. I can use my skins cut for the Wren almost freely interchangibly. Both mounted with kingpins and after a full season going back and forth on the two in powder... Billy Goat.

I kid. Sorta. Going back and forth between the two and adjusting style always takes a few turns. I’m glad I have Wrens for big stuff, and the Kartels are great dick around skis for resort and mess around days... but in truly deep untracked, getting forward on those is not what you wanna do. Coulda probably enjoyed a stock pair just as much. For having two pairs with the same width, really happy with the slots they fill in the quiver.

BTW - anyone touring on veneers? Luck with any coatings over them to keep snow from sticking? This is WA spring pow, so worst of the worst...

Just a little followup, A couple pages back I was asking about 179 vs 184 Wren 108's. These are replacing my 177 Cochise's. I ended up going with the 179. I think its probably the right choice but after a day in weird shit powder I am still wondering if I should have gotten the 184's. Even though it is noticeably longer than the 177 Cochise the 179 Wren is easier and more forgiving than the Blizzard. I am not saying this a bad thing but I was kinda hoping for bit of a bitch slap when I fucked up in shit snow. All in all super fun ski so far, better float and great maneuverability. Speed limit seems high and varying turn shapes are a breeze. Definitely a ski I just hopped on and felt at home first turn.... Kinda made me miss my steeple 98's

Guys, custom Topsheets are technically an option. I looked into it when I had my wife’s skis made. It’s..... not cheap. The Topsheets are not printed in-house IIRC, so sourcing and cost are an issue and all of that cost is passed on to you, the buyer. I think it’s awesome Iggy let’s us get custom skis, period, but I think we all get a little carried away asking for 1-offs. The collective noise got the SG’s made, so we should all consider that an accomplishment and not press our luck too far.

Yeah, we know. I think the idea was one custom white eagle top sheet that could be used on any number of skis, just like the other custom top sheet options. We're just throwing it out there as an idea but I'm sure Scott has other shit to worry about right now. The basic white custom top sheet is still pretty nice looking... as are the regular top sheets on all of next year's skis.

Interesting that you went shorter with the Kartel. While the Wren 108 in 184 is perfect for me, I figured the 186 Kartel would make the most sense due to the twin tip and not to mention the more forward mount shortening the length from your toes to your tips. I had some 182 (?) 110 Jeffrey's and often felt like I wanted more ski out front. I assume the longer length would allow them to be driven a bit more as well.

Just to be clear - i am not asking for one off super custom top sheet here. I am suggesting that an existing graphic is modified to offer better functionality for touring needs, kinda just like the Steeples represented a dedicated touring graphic. It is not a new suggestion - a lighter colored touring graphic has been suggested several times already in this thread - but it is the first time a specific graphic has been suggested. My suggested graphic is something anybody could choose if it is made an option, a decision that is 100% Iggy's to make.

I am no graphic designer, but i would imagine that the designers use software where the graphic is made up of several layers in different colors together making the whole. As such - and the reason i suggested modifying next years wren graphic - is based on my perhaps naive belief that creating said graphic is as easy as switching the colors of the different layers yielding white/grey/black goodness. Of course, a bit further refinement could be needed to make the graphic be as awesome as the other current design My assumption of how the design program/process works might be 100% off - I have no idea - but try to focus on the desired end states rather than identifying issues in a process i know nothing about. I also have no idea what such a design modification would cost (if it is cost prohibitive), and realize that adding another design to the mix might only increase complexity for ON3P (if not stocking costs as i understand correctly that all top sheets are made to order to a specific run of a given model/size), especially at a time where the touring range has been made wider already (a move i think is brilliant). Iggy and the master crafters over at ON3P can at any time nix the idea, but as per Iggy's Blister statement "if enough people want it, we might build it" (paraphrasing Iggy when talking about the Supergoat) there might be a way that such a design is made a viable option. The only way i would know if there is enough people thinking this is a good idea and that people are willing to speak with their wallets, is if i - or somebody else - makes the suggestion.

at the end of the day i am super happy with ON3P and their awesome skis. I really appreciate their build quality and the thought out designs, and that we are given the option to contribute to the design process (build custom skis) is simply super awesome. While i realize that Iggy did not intend for all of us to nag at him to build this, build that, with the statement referenced above, he kinda also says that if there is a demonstrable demand for something, they might consider it. I am hoping that enough people think it is a good idea that ON3P at some point in time might consider it. If not, oh well, i will continue to give them my support and offer suggestions in this thread or directly

The SG is a ski that was already being made. Molds made, R&D done.

I have 181 k106s from a couple years ago and the 11/12 191 caylors. I'm 5'9" and 160lbs. I know you're asking about this year's k108s, but maybe this'll give you an idea.

I take the caylors out when it's really deep and for sidecountry laps, and use the kartels for almost everything else. I'm sure you already have the caylors and know this, but the caylors blast through everything, stomp everything (so much tail!), and want to go fast. They are still quite playful once they start moving. The kartels are a bit more nimble and lively, and are much more playful than the caylors at lower speeds. If it's deeper than 8" or I want to go big or fast, I reach for the caylors. The kartels can handle decent drops and almost any amount of snow with a certain amount off finesse, but I still want the length and girth of the caylors. But if it hasn't snowed in a while the caylors are way too much ski and the k106 crushes the bumps and jibs and leftovers.

In summary, caylors: fast, deep, big air, still can jib, sucks with no fresh snow. Kartel106: great daily driver, less fast, more lively, great jibber, more all-around playful, but still can handle deep days and big hits.

As for length, i’m 6’ and have only wanted a bit more length a couple times. I’ve also got my 186 K98’s if you wanted to try those too (tho they’re veneer and extra carbon for stiffness).

My kid got on AC's kid's Jessies and promptly told me his new volkls sucked by comparison. I think that 161 Jessie 98 is a sweet spot for the 11-13yr old daily driver. Not gonna let em down in pow either.

I liked em pretty well on the slush. I wish I could try them in their natural environment to assess my occasional issues with that "over the handlebars" feeling whilst driving a ski in pnw pow. I know I need a pair. I just don't know if I need +1 carbon.

6ft, 220lb. Shitty skier who follows friends down expert terrain to try to fit in. Thoughts on stock vs +1?

Hoping for a decent pow day in April and to be able to try these out again.

Ha, we know that. The idea was something white-ish that incorporates some of the great new artwork. But whatever, I'll probably just get those K108 tours in the custom white top sheet, which should still look pretty slick.

On that note, when is the rollout for the next season's skis on the site? Any day now?

Finally had the chance to open the Steeples up on some bigger alpine lines over the Easter weekend. Conditions were great and the Steeples were smooth, stable, consistent and all around awesome. The first few turns on the run in the photo were good enough to make a guy want to sell a kidney and head to Alaska!
