Don’t you already have Supergoats? Aever??
Have you skied those 191 Monster 108s yet?

Yeah, I'm fuckin around.
No, not yet on the Monsters. This year has for the most part been pretty bleak here, cept the last month or so. Generally 108 is an early season ski for me, cuz once stuff fills up i don't ski piste too much and just prefer fat sticks(DD=Head Boneshaker/ Carlos). With the low tide early conditions this year, I picked these blue 103's up for cheapinstead![]()
Funny thing this past weekend...had maybe half a dozen people stop me and ask if I had LIGHTS under my skis. Because of the green-base-glow.
Been on these green bases for a lot of years and never happened before. It was weird.
One guy seriously did not believe me, and thought I had "installed LED's" into the bases. WTF???

As far as I can recall, I've only gotten one comment: some Texan in the lift line commented how crazy it was that my skis were still made out of wood (cuz the wood veneer topsheet). I told him it was just a wood veneer instead of the typical nylon topsheet and that most skis, including his, have a wood core. He absolutely didn't believe me.

The Veneers do get the most attention. Even a bunch of the sled heads at the snowmobile hill climb asked about them. Better conversation starter than ‘the American’ top sheets in Canada
The pillow fight bases had a nice steezy glow
Im developing a fondness for the current Magnus topsheet.

Big time lurker here. My ride bailed on me last minute since he doesn’t wanna pay for a lift ticket and I have no one else to ask for a ride to the Loveland demo tomorrow. Anyone here live in the summit county area heading to the demo tomorrow? I live in Breck. Will pay for gas or bring beers or whatever
So a little help here? I was out at Big Sky a few weeks ago and spent most of my time on 179 (I'm 5' 9" and 155 and past 60), Wren 108s. I think that ski was made for Big Sky. Skiing heavy wind blown stuff in Liberty Bowl was easy on those skis. Heck, even skiing bumps on those was pretty much a piece of cake. But then I come home to the east and head up to VT and I find the Wrens just seem to need a little more space then what I usually ski here. I have a pair of Bonafides which I like for those days where a metal ski rules in the east, and I even have Billy Goats for the deep days. But I thought something around 98/100 underfoot that's a little easier to ski then the Bonafides, something that is a little more playful, easy to smear, and fun in the trees where things get tight might be a worthwhile investment (it's amazing how easy it is to justify the purchase of yet another pair of skis!). I've been thinking about demoing a pair of Rustler 10s to see if they would fit the bill, but I'm also wondering about Kartel 98s, in 176 maybe. I know they are more centered mounted but I'm thinking they'll be quicker in tight places then Bonafides or Wren 98s, and would also be fun when there is fresh snow. What do others think?
Rustlers are more centered mounted too. I don't know the exact mount point and how that compares to the Kartel, but they are for sure mounted more forward than the Wrens.
Both Rustlers and Kartels are more maneuverable than the Wrens, due to a more forward mount and tighter sidecut.
Didn't know the Rustlers were more center mounted, will definitely have to try them now. Agree on the side cut though which is one reason why I am favoring a Rustler or Kartel over a Wren 98 even. Thanks
kartels in 181 might be a better transition from w179s with the more centered stance. That was PowTron's recommendation to me, even if i ended up getting some k98s in 176 (that i have yet to try, sorry, so can't weigh in). I bought them for park/jibbing/summer skiing duties and the main reason i got em in 176 over 181 was lack of avaliability of the latter. If not, i would have gotten 181s for sure.
man oh man (not to get stuck on repeat here) wren108s are simply amazing. Their chunder/tracked out fresh eating abilities are right up there with the BGs. I am getting along pretty well with my wren88s also. They rip the groomers and i have found them to be tolerably good in soft snow too. The awesome shape does its magic there, even if the stiffer flex necessitates a bit more rear biased weight distribution (though, that is probably more due to me riding conservatively due to limited time on em in deeper snow and not wanting to tomahawk, than any significant shortcoming of the narrower ski). I am not 100% sure whether the w98s i originally was intending to buy or the w88s that i ended up buying (due to the w98 being unavailable) is the best pair for a two ski quiver (with w108s) for me - so if anybody have time on both (especially if the 98s was slightly more beefy than stock) and want to chime in, then i am all ears.![]()
Length wise for Kartel 98s (or maybe the 96s), I was looking at 176 versus 181 because I wanted them for tighter turns/trees/bumps in VT (my Bonafides are 173 and I love them in that length), and the 179 Wren 108s were a bit of a handful at times in such tighter terrain, at least for me. But have to agree, Wren 108s (mine are 179), are great skis, they just need a little room. I skied them in wind loaded heavy powder, 4 inches of fresh, big soft bumps (not really tight ones though), and hard pack, out west at Big Sky and couldn't ask for a better all around ski. If I only bring one ski with me out west that is what I would bring.
