So, for me, wife, one kid:

    WP only: $429 + $429 + $149 = $1007, all due up front, no other resorts
    Copper only: $459 + $459 + $0 = $918, payment plan offered, 3 days at Purg/Monarch/PowMow/Taos (and Targhee with lodging purchase)
    Ikon Base: $599 + $599 + $149 == $1347, all due up front, all the mountains

If WP offered anything like Copper's deal, I would get the WP only pass without question. Grrr...

Edit: and no, zero, benefits offered for a WP only pass. No discounts, no buddy passes, nothing. Fairly obvious that they're only offering it because they feel like they have to, they want you to purchase the Ikon pass.
That makes it easy. I'd go Copper for sure.

$149 for kids Ikon base is a sweet deal. Likely keeping it low to compete with the Epic kids free days.

I doubt they will sell many WP only passes. The numbers don't make sense.

For me, wife + 2 kids the KeystoneAbasin pass (what we did this year) is $1196 for next season. Only $300 less than Ikon base. If it wasn't for the insane deal on lesson 4packs at Keystone (their kids program is the only thing that doesn't suck there), I would go Ikon or Abasin only.

I'm certainly not getting WP only. Might get Copper only. Might get Ikon (because Eldora may suck, but it is right there).

Yeah, WP is clearly trying NOT to sell WP only passes, it seems.

What is the "insane" deal on lessons at Keystone? Because that's part of the program for us, I expect to put my kiddo in 3 or 4 lessons a year.

Copper is the best resort in Summit for sure (Basin isn't a resort). They are adding significant chair upgrades this summer too supposedly which should mitigate crowds. Chondola and Sixpack to replace the Eagle and Flyer, and a rumored lift on Tucker that they've talked about for many years.

I don't know the price is for '18/'19, but I believe we paid $309 per 4pack for this season. 4 days of lessons (including lunch) and 4 days of free parking at mountain house (normally $20/day). The kid using it must have a pass. Considering that lessons are $180/day, it's a significant discount.

Being in Boulder with kids, not having Eldora would be tough. Ikon base is the way to go for our crew.

It's been on the pass for what, 3 years now? I have skied there all of 2 times. So that isn't a deal breaker for me. But given the way they have structured the options, I'm not sure. If WP offered the same deal as Copper, I might choose that, because money is really tight right now so the lower price and payment plan, with a few other resorts for a trip or two, would be good. But a WP-only pass makes zero sense given the way they've structure it.

Agree. I’ve prob skied Eldora 10 days in the last 3 years but it’s a nice option when not making the I70 trek or when I want to blow off a morning of work. While I don’t use that part of my pass much, two years ago I bought WP only and regretted it. Though as much for 0 days at Eldora as 0 days at Steamboat.

OK, so don't do Amex.. put it on the one you get miles on.... Then throw down for another appraisal and get a bigger HELOC.

I mean, when it's all said in done, you're just renting your stuff anyway.

It's been ages since I've been in the area, but isn't your kid right in the wheelhouse of the multi week locals lesson program at Eldora? It used to be priced attractively.

She is, but WP has the same (as does Copper, Keystone etc). Eldora's wasn't priced any better last time I checked a few years ago. Which is often the case, Eldora isn't cheap. Case in point, lift tickets are $99 at Eldora (and $119 peak, with peak being every day from Xmas to mid-March!), and $75 at Loveland.

I am in same boat as you, wife +1 daughter. We skied A-Bay only + Loveland 4-pack 2 seasons ago, and actually enjoyed it, plus they had a very attractive 4-pack lesson that year. My brother hits up Loveland for the lessons for his 3 kids. But I feel you, the Ikon Base is a big nugget to find laying around right now for us too. Guess I better get the knee pads out and the gag reflex supressed...

Man you really have a hard on for Breck this year. That's OK, I've had a lot of fun there over the years on occasion.

I like Copper because you don't have to deal with an overcrowded town and parking to get to it. It's usually far less crowded (pre-Ikon anyway), and there's a ton of super fun tree stashes. Granted Copper does lack some technical steeps. Responding to Danno's situation, Copper all the way because of their naturally divided terrain. My wife and her sisters grew up skiing there while their mom worked in the village. They just got dropped off at Union and skied around all day.

I know Breck has Peak 6 terrain, and that's cool, I haven't made it over there yet (since the lifts anyway), and that could be redeeming, but the ordeal of getting there, parking, crowds, riding 4lifts just to get anywhere good, etc just turn me off. If I had a kid, Copper is just much easier.

Yup. Breck sucks, because of the extreme gaper factor, especially this month. Copper has free parking, and, even better for Summit county people, the Frisco bus drops you off at two different bases, also free. The Super Bee is one of my favorite chairs. Bam, and you're standing at a spot with four or five good options.

Breck is great, yep, I've heard that one before.
Bradleys / Iron Mask / Schaeffers aren't ultra gnar, but that whole side of Copper bowl is pretty sweet and doesn't get much traffic.
It was too much for Digital Death to handle.

If I was skiing weekends only, I’d go Copper over Breck but for weekdays, easily Breck over Copper. The terrain is just better. Hike a little bit and it gets even better. Super Bee is an awesome chair though.

@Danno, if you’re putting $3000 on credit something you’re not going to use for 8 or 9 months and not paying it off till (when?) the cost penalty for waiting till thanksgiving and buying them is going to be at least partially nullified.
At that point most of this coming season Pass war will be shaken out, you’ll have a lot of time to think about it, and hopefully with a little more liquid cash in hand.

This pass is all the rage with Denver gapers. My associates who get their picture taken at Breck every weekend and post it to IG and FB are talking about going this route. WP and Copper are going to be a complete shit sandwich next season.

We got a CC for a remodel, 18 months no interest. Could be good for this, but dangerous for the wrong person.

I won't carry a balance on my CC, what kind of gaper do you take me for?!?!? (don't answer that ) It will hurt immensely, though, to pay this off now, as our cash flow problem is (hopefully) fairly temporary. It won't be 3 grand upfront, though, just 2 adult Ikon Bases and a kiddo (at most). Lesson packages and weekend VRBOs can wait.

Oh good, you said plastic, but anyway still that 8 / 9 months blows whether the cc company or the ski company is holding your cash.
Didn’t they use to start this bullshit in like August?
Now it’s mid March on the tails of the worst season in recorded history?

Yeah, that's why I'm annoyed, they should be asking for my commitment, not all my money upfront. In the recent past they started in April, and asked for $49 down.
