Alta is very different. They have a plentiful, young client base just minutes away in a major city. DV is a destination resort.

There will always be a supply of rich people who want to be pampered and aren’t looking for deep pow and steep lines.

I'm not convinced of that. Peak snowboarding occurred with the Gen X set and they've been losing market share with young people for a long time, so it's not like there's some long-term trend that is going to kill the last no-snowboarding resorts automatically.

DV also markets itself as uncrowded and claims to make plenty of money as-is. They'll drop the snowboarding ban if skier visits dwindle, like Taos did, but I don't see that happening in the near future.

How is DV going to handle their cap on lift tickets per day when hoards of IKON pass holders show up to redeem? Surely they can't tell people to come back later after they've flown in for a ski vacation.

    Nice counter Epic.

Copper putting down some nice cash with IKON hordes coming in - just announced Eagle is being replaced with a chondola, Flyer with a 6 pack bubble. Tucker lift is also on expedited review with the forest service.

Soon there will just be two ski passes for every resort in N.A.

Shit, why not just merge and then people can decide to buy THE SKI PASS FOR EVERY RESORT EVERYWHERE or not. lol...

In the past, they have capped day ticket sales and touted that as part of the experience.

I imagine they could just make Ikon people buy online the day before and back that out of their day pass cap for the day at the window. They already strongly encourage online pre purchase for that reason.

Big Sky 7 days on Ikon, 2 free on MC. Easy choice.

MC has 50% off additional days, so 5 days at Big Sky with mountain collective is less than base Ikon.

At this point, we need a list of big resorts not on Ikon or Epic. Geezus.

Like Telluride, only for full epic, epic 7 and 4 day pass holders, vail isn't adding much to the more affordable local. They did get Japan if they can afford to get there.

I liked MJ so much because I never got bored. Ever. So many tree lines, still finding pockets after five years of wkdn warrior'ing. I could spend the rest of my life happily hacking away at getting slightly better in the bumps. Never any lines on the old slow doubles. We were looking up there recently but holy $$$. Add it to the list of places I wish I'd bought at in 2004. If we found the right place, I'd do it though...Hot Sulphur Springs was great after skiing, proximity to RMNP, the mountain biking looks pretty amazing...

Targhee is pretty cool. Think we might go a little stir crazy after a while. Also, I would need to find a full-time remote software gig again.

Now thinking VT and go Epic. The one place left in the country where you can buy a house under $400k within a 30min drive of jobs and civilization and skiing. And saving $$$ on the house means maybe we can travel to where the snow is hitting this year.

When do we start seeing some Euro resorts? They know tourists pay more for things and they have figured out how to make tourists out of crusty locals by convincing us to travel to other places.

I think about VT every so often, too. But life doesn't exactly suck here.

I love VT. But the weather.
