I swear I just got the email from BobKat asking me to re-up for 49 down, fwiw.

I used to work for employee pass at my local mountain.

I have no interest in working for vail or alterra but if you do, do you get a free “employee” epic or ikon pass? Dependent pass???

My hope is that by making people pay all of it upfront now rather than $49 now and the rest later or a payment plan that people will not buy it.

What do mags think? Will a TON of people defect from Epic to Ikon? I’m not talking about TGR mags, but rather the typical Front Rangers. Is the allure of a possible long weekend in Aspen or JH going to make 1/3 of Front Range Epic Pass holders switch to Ikon? Sure, it’s great that there are new options like Aspen and JH, but ultimately most of my days in a season are day trips to WP or Copper with the majority of those at WP. I can’t imagine going Epic and Loveland just isn’t an option.

Yes, you get an employee epic pass and your dependents get a dependent epic pass. No clue about Ikon, but I know powder alliance resort employees have ski benefits at the other hills and MAX pass resort employees had a discounted buy in available.

idk i feel like having having the 5 resorts in summit/ eagle will keep a lot of people on the epic. lots of folks here just seem to think it is too good of a deal. but i feel like ikon could get a spike for a year or so then when people realize they never made it to any of these destination resorts they will switch back. err maybe i hope? i don't know or care i guess everywhere here is a shit show weekends regardless

So, for me, wife, one kid:

    WP only: $429 + $429 + $149 = $1007, all due up front, no other resorts
    Copper only: $459 + $459 + $0 = $918, payment plan offered, 3 days at Purg/Monarch/PowMow/Taos (and Targhee with lodging purchase)
    Ikon Base: $599 + $599 + $149 == $1347, all due up front, all the mountains

If WP offered anything like Copper's deal, I would get the WP only pass without question. Grrr...

Edit: and no, zero, benefits offered for a WP only pass. No discounts, no buddy passes, nothing. Fairly obvious that they're only offering it because they feel like they have to, they want you to purchase the Ikon pass.
Would you shackle yourself to the 4-6 hour weekend round trips to Copper for $400?

I love Copper but that’s the calculation that I’d be making if weighing the Copper vs Ikon.

Eldora isn’t that great but for an 11 am Sunday departure or weekday quick 4 hours RT on a pow day...

    But yeah, money is money

Having all the resorts in one place is still advantage to Epic. If you were coming from out of town and staying in one place, Epic still provides all the resorts in one place so less driving. Steamboat, WP, and Copper are all too far apart.

Ikon is great for Front Rangers, Epic is better for locals and visitors from my calculations.

Epic question: if you get the local, do get a discount on T-Ride tickets if you end up going?

That is absolutely part of the equation. Though I am very worried that the round trip to WP is going to be Epic next year. And then there's the issue of renting a place for the weekend (or season) vs day trips.

Both WP and Copper are investing pretty big in new lifts.

WP announces $28M in upgrades including a new gondola:

Which all seems to be part of the larger Alterra $555M plan for world domination:

Doubtful, also they just upped the Epic Local to $669. That seems unwise and just the push some folks need to go to Ikon.

Sounds like the new gondola is not continuing on to Mary Jane, ending at Sunspot. Phew.

I like this WP upgrade. Any word on the old Zephyr replacing either the Sunnyside, Challenger, or Iron Horse chairs?

No word on where the old Zephyr is going. Other upgrades are new snowmaking and 20 acres of logging at Eagle Wind.

Not sure the Zephyr has any life left...it has been a serious mechanical problem last few years.

I wonder if they can construct it for a future extension (and if they will).

Though I am not really sure what the point of extending to Lunch Rock is, it's not like the building can handle more business, and with Sober Englishmen, they already solved the "how to easily get to Mary Jane from the bottom of Winter Park" problem.

Grapevine's saying this option was scrapped because it was cost-prohibitive, almost double due to the configuration necessary to angle to top of Jane, so I'm guess not in near future.

Sorry bud. It's amazing how many people I met from NY/NJ when I was in Utah last week.

The Max pass had the NY state owned resorts (Bellaeyre/Gore/Whiteface) and Windham. If those were to be picked up by Epic or Ikon, I imagine they'd get an ungodly amount of people from the NY Metro area

    Ikon Pass

There was a relationship between the previous Canyons ownership and the ultra-fundamentalist/ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in NYC. Bunch of racist assholes. I have to imagine that they are in a different league from the typical Whiteface passholder. I never found the ADK crowd to be particularly dickish.

Okemo and Sunapee attract the New England equivalent of the CO front-ranger. Middle class, not super-assholeish, but very numerous.
