Safe bets is how good people end up eating bad food.

thx. been to the trio in CH some. been years since I've gone to café molise but remember being good. anyone know how pricey/good valter's osteria is?
not looking for safe bet restaurants per se, just know going Italian will please everyone regardless.

valter's is consistently at the top of any list of best restaurants in slc/utah, but it is very spendy - a $40/plate kinda place for entrees

there's also cannella's, I only ate there once a while ago but remember enjoying it. if you're flexible on the italian thing, someplace like copper onion I think is also a pretty safe bet for a family of mixed tastes. but if it were me I'd go to trio or molise.

Yeah I should have mentioned valters being pricey. They also require a deposit on a reservation. I think they figure it at roughly $100pp total. I was shocked at that. Very good food though.

Also, not downtown, but Per Noi Trattoria is fantastic, and hidden up off 2700s and 1600 E area.

Oh yeah! That’s a good one. Fun fact: Lee Cohen’s favorite Italian joint.

Moving a bit further east (than Italy that is), I recently went to Afghan Kitchen with my parents. Excellent food, large portions, super-friendly staff, simple menu. No booze though, they're pretty traditional. About 3200S and Main. I'd highly recommend a visit, the lamb dishes are stellar.

I will report back via TR (in this thread) on if it stacks up with the real shit in Nashville. I think it will be a good prognostication on how the SLC Hot Chicken will be as well.

I went to laid back poke shack for lunch today. They made a couple updates to their menu, lowering some prices and adding free toppings (edamame, pineapple, mango, radishes, etc). Definitely recommend it.
