The limited edition/we put gold paint on it or engraved it stuff makes no sense to me. I think you had two issues this being the first which I totally agree with you on.

The other issue I think you are looking at is Demand and the factors that make it up.

If more people bought them in the people's republic and registered them... wouldn't the price be lower now because of a greater supply? You are looking only at demand increases and ignoring supply increases. The price then falls and you can have more "tools" at a lower price point when demand falls. In this instance the supply was frozen, shouldn't you be pissed at the limit on supply rather than "People"?

We have seen short term demand increases build a massive stock pile/supply this country would never have seen otherwise. Leading to some pretty awesome deals.

PS I wouldn't get a 5.45. I try to minimize my ammo flavors and mags and would rather get a 223 pap like this. Given your options though I would go 7.62x39.

There have been a series of panic buys which do not help even with high supply. Then there are retailers out to price gouge like CTD and others. The build up to the election of stocks of everything in anticipation that Clinton would get in there was incredible and the let down when that did not happen put some over the edge. They gambled and lost.

The deals are mostly in the AR side. Aks are starting to dry up. The golden age of parts kits is long gone and certain types of ammo also. I swore off 5.45x39 long time ago and instead chose to go with 5.56 since its readily available.

I may look into getting myself a particular Colt AR setup.

I'm not sure if you're referring to my problem, but if you are; you have it wrong. Because import of ANY AR/AK variations has been banned for the last 15 months, there is now a fixed supply, along with increased demand. Even worse, people are reluctant to sell now, so the supply is even lower. Leading to price gouging and outrageous asking figures.

And I'm clearly looking for a 7.62 AK if you've been following. 5.45 is stupid and buying an AK in any caliber OTHER than 7.62 is also pretty dumb if you ask me. Like AR10s - why? the platform was designed for 5.56.

It was designed for 7.62 x 51, the 5.56 version came afterwards.

You picked the 5.45, I was the first one to tell you not to.
If you have ar15's and only want one ak, it wouldn't be a terrible idea to just get one ak in 223.
I totally get the 7.62 vibe and limited availability could make that the better choice. I even said 7.62 is what YOU should get.
It sounds like you are getting hosed on the price due to a fixed supply, today/tomorrow/next week...
    I've had wasr's and a milled aresenal.
I like the triangle stock over an under folder. I wouldn't get the fixed stock again.
My wasr's took some mag well work to take bulg waffle mags.
The finish on the wasr's were terrible.

Overall the CAI wasr is all over the place, you get what you pay for.

The arsenal is better quality but its going to be more money than other stuff of the same level quality.

Post up what you are looking at getting to the peanut gallery and you'll get feedback and maybe that will help you make a decision. Which is pretty much what you did and got.

If directed at me, I'm not picking anything. AK's are not my thing, just posting up for the guy looking for one. Only posting what I saw on our local board. Agree with it or not, Idaho is still friendly towards private sales. I've had good luck both buying and selling on that board. I always ask to see a CWP and a completed bill of sale to sell to someone. I know it's not a full background check but at least it's something.

A PTR 91 can be had for about $800 which is made on the exact same equipment. I love mine and have upgraded it with certain original HK parts. One good thing is mags are uber cheap.

Also Armslist is full of scams, I would never buy anything off Armslist unless I can drive to visually inspect it.

Thanks for that advice. PTR 91, will put it in my search

so what about those two SKSs I posted? I'm aware AL is full of scammers, the only time I used it I met the guy at a range, inspected and test fired the gun...

That SKS-M is highly sought after, takes AK mags. Its not too high in price. That would get you in the door.

The first one yes. Its a SKS-M, they are on GB for $300-500. There was a similar rifle that had a folding stock as well, known as the paratrooper.

Back in the day we would buy these all day long for $75 and 1K of ammo for $25 or 30. Took down my share of deer with one.

I still have a bit of the Norinco AP ammo stashed away. Also back then AKs were $199 up to $300 for a milled Poly tech. Man those were the days.

This thread needed to be bumped, so I have some observations from the last few weeks.

I bought some hot and heavy ammo for my 1911 a while back. Within 60 rounds or so, I had developed a flinch I'm still struggling to get rid of. I do lots of dry fire practice normally, and it has disappeared there, but it's still present with live ammo. Damn it. I have convinced myself that I need a Ruger mk4 for remedying it.

I spent some time with an FN 5.7 last week. I'm still not sure what I think of it. The trigger is pretty decent for a striker-fired pistol. Ammunition is small, pointy, and angry. It's stupid-light. It's fun, but I don't see myself forking over that kind of money for one any time soon.

I was going to rave about the Colt 6920-r and it's incredibly low $710 going price, but I see those have jumped to almost $1k in the last week or so. Perhaps we are starting to see a run on guns. In any case, I grabbed a few at the low price and couldn't be much happier. The R is a 6920 with a chopped front sight block and a rather long and skinny free float tube. To sight them in, I was shooting M193 off the bench at 50 yards with a 1x red dot and seeing 1" groups. I was proud of myself. Trigger is noticeably better than your normal cheap parts group.

I asked for optics suggestions for a scar 17 the other day. At this point, I'm between a NF 2.5-10x24 or 32 and a Leupold VX6 1-6. Still trying to decide if I really want to give up the 1x low range for the 10x top end. I don't have any more rounds through it than I did then, but it's a beautiful piece of machinery. It's an 8-lb semi-auto 308 that does nothing poorly. I'm mostly just impressed with the engineering that goes into the thing, and I can only imagine what they'll look like after a decade of development.

I like gun stoke. Please provide?
