Thanks for the knowledge. I fixed my typo while you were typing. The 900 rps comes from the manufacturers website. Marketing BS I guess? I got the M1 number from wikipedia. So The Vegas shooter had the capability to throw the same amount of bullets as approx 20 highly trained Ranger riflemen hitting the beach at H hour + 10 minutes. I get that measuring stopping power will have a lot of variables but I have to think that somewhere in military science there is a number to measure the "effectiveness" of a weapon. OTOH, using the research that I have done, the on the particular LCI that I am measuring, the soldiers had been throwing up on each other for a few hours before hitting the beach and maybe that reduced the speed of fire for some. Then again, adrenaline probably amped it back up again to optimum. I'm just trying to gain a perspective and this is the thread to get it. I have a bet riding on this.

Really, I'm not. I do historical research about the WWII 1st Ranger Btn. as a retirement hobby. Might write a book. I bet a guy that the shooter could lay down as much lead as a Ranger company rifle section (approx. 20 guys) hitting the beach to spearhead an amphibious invasion. $100. Real money. Appreciate the input with numbers.

So doing the math, the shooter in Las Vegas had approximately the same fire power as a 20 man rifle section of army Rangers when they hit the beach in WWII. But he had nobody shooting back at him. I should factor that in somehow.

Well the answer to that specific question probably lies more in the tactics being compared than the weapon systems. Vegas shooter was shooting from an overhead position of concealment, as an ambusher and sniper, whereas WWII GIs storming a beach would be assaulting and constantly UNDER FIRE, moving from cover to cover as well they could. The ambusher in cover is clearly going to get off way more rounds than the assaulter trying to maneuver while actually under fire. I'm sure you recognize that if you like military history. Its an apples to oranges comparison I think. Could 20 GIs with M1s lay down the same amount of lead as this recent nutbag if the GIs were ambushing? Thats probably a better question

edit: you recognize it, as I was writing

Yep. We agreed to keep the bet simple with mathematics of the maximum Garand capability that one LCI could bring ashore. An LCI could hold about 36 with some holding BAR's, Thompson's, shotguns, and other explody things. Gun Control? Historical gun control factoid to help bring the stoke. While loading for the 1st and biggest amphibious invasion of WWII (Sicily), a mortar round blew up in a ranger's back pack. The guy had tried to shorten the fuse timer and fucked up. All of the explosive ammo was collected and put on another ship to be returned while at sea.

The micros are okay as long as you don't put the mounts on backwards that just ruins it for me.

    Perhaps someday you'll understand.

I like how the gunfags kept to business as usual in here. Very operator.

Why no ballistic tactical breakdown. Why no video of the huge burst of rounds.

Pretty sure scootyb has me blocked, which is a shame.

Where did the bump stock narrative come from? The picture?

Aimpoint is the original and high quality. I have the patrol model and would go with it again.

^ The aimpoint on the lower right is the m4 with the dial set at 4:30 vs 1:30. How come those are more $? I don't think I would like that.

M4s vs M4. I'd guess that the M4s is more expensive because it has a NSN and we all know everyone just has to have mil spec! Only real difference afaik is the position of the battery. The lower position is out of your field of view and less likely to sustain damage when dropped. Not sure if there is any other real advantage other that preference.

    Actually, speaking of optics...

A scar 17 followed me home the other day. As fun as the iron sights are, I need a scope. I'm trying to keep weight down, so something like a NF 2.5-10x24 is currently in the lead. I'd love to find a 1-8x that didn't weigh 25 oz. I have a Vortex Viper PST 1-4 on my 18" AR that I love, but 4x is marginal at 600yds with my eyes, hence the need for more magnification with the 308. I'm hesitant to do a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8 with the scar's reputation for killing optics (it hits all the other requirements, except I'm not a fan of the reticle). The Leupold VX6 1-6 multigun also looks attractive. I'm also not about to pay for a Leupold Mk8. Any thoughts?

As for Aimpoints, I have a T2 micro on a 6920 and have no complaints. I like it way better than an EOTech, mostly due to battery life and how annoying it is to have to turn it off.

So now that I can't find a bump stock for sale anywhere, what is the next best option to spray mucho lead and make a lot of noise? I'm ignorant, school me.

    Drop $25k on a transferrable M-16.

And I was thinking a top fuel or jet dragster for noise.

Fineswine has already proposed legislation to outlaw anything to simulate full auto such as bump stocks, crank triggers, etc.

I really want to make money on the next gun thing to be attacked and buy a bunch. I used other things to make noise when I was younger. I get the need.
