Well, basically you asked if it was wise to keep running modern ammo thru an antique that you want to let yer grand kids shoot.

You have more than one grand kid right? Its probably ok.

Good one!! Love it Scotty. Yeah, 4 kids 5-8. The breech block / rolling block? mechanism is in very good shape. It'll accept a LR but I'd feel safe with a modern low power short. Right now it sits in a corner and when a kid shows an interest in it I show them how to make sure it's unloaded and let them hold it. Baby steps. Same as how I show them how to use shovel or pointy stick. Two of them are Ewoks now.

Get the bolt action single shot. Otherwise the kid just blasts through boxes of ammo without paying attention. My brother lets my nephew do that, pisses me off.

We grew up with a beater bolt action .22. Hours of putting holes in cans off the back deck with .22 shorts. When shorts were cheap.

I've got a nice little kids sized bolt gun (Cricket CPR) that I'd be willing to sell to a responsible and mentally stable individual (so NOT wooley12). Only about 50 rounds down the pipe. My son thought it was super cool (and it's pretty damn accurate too) but liked the 10/22 I built for him a lot better.

You are as wise as the gun shop owner that refused to sell me a gun. Nice piece sports equipment. I see a future US biathalon champ in your picture. Can it be used left handed?

17 arrested, more copycats are believed to exist. If this stuff wasn't on the news would there be fewer copycats?

"Trinh was caught after sending numerous cellphone selfies of himself armed with stolen guns to friends. In the messages, he mentioned the possibility of killing people, including police officers."

"may get up to 10 years"

That doesn't sound like near enough.

On second thought that's polyass. Here's some porn.

New rental gun display. 130 on the wall, "2 or 3 buckets more in the back."
The PPQ in 45 was very nice.

Seems like they finally got the kinks worked out of the dual feed AR15. Pricey but it did take a lot of effort to make it happen.

I would spend my 5K else where but I have always wanted a belt fed something.

Anybody have any opinions on Zastava AKs?

I wanted that Vepr but it fell through.. Several Zastavas available here in The People's Republic of MA at more sane prices

I have two stamped Zastava built AKs, a fixed stock and a UF. They are good rifles and the receivers on these are 1.5mm as opposed to the standard 1mm on most stamped AKs. They also have the buldged front trunion which is a feature of the Vepr and the RPK LMG. Check to make sure the front sight is not canted. ALG trigger is a very good upgrade.

Mine shoot well as to be expected for AKs. They do have minor design differences from most AKMs so furniture and other accessories will have to be Yugo specific.

If you can keep looking for a Vepr.

Thanks Scotty, maybe I will just wait and keep looking really sucks living in a state where you can only buy pre-owned AKs for 2-3 times the cost of brand new ones..

As I understand it, it goes VEPR > Saiga > Arsenal > Zastava > WASR. About right? Obviously not counting customs like Krebs or Rifle Dynamics..

Yep, that is a short list but accurate. I like my Arsenals and the SAM7SF the best. A Norinco Mak90 should be on yer radar also. WASRs are a best bang for the buck.

Krebs and RD are well done but pricey. I have a Krebs I am hoping to break even on some day.

I was one of the original investors in that boondoggle when he took $1,000 deposits on a unit that retailed at $2,499. Geoff "Red" Herring. Started building the things and shipping after about 10 years. But instead of shipping to the original investors at the buy in price, was selling to third parties at a higher price. This went on a couple of years, with numerous promises of delivery. But, if you wanted out, he would send you back your $1,000.

He was modifying a FN steel feed tray and got into a squabble with FN who stopped the practice. Then he started delivering with a CNC machined aluminum feed tray that wore out after about 1,000 rounds. Then he started machining a steel feed tray, but wanted $600 as an upgrade.

The rear locking lug occasionally broke off. Some people's ran flawless, and others were a mechanic's dream. I think the new ones run better.

I finally threatened to report his antics to the Virginia Consumer Protection Division of the Virginia Attorney General's office after about 12 years. Mysteriously got the letter that mine was ready to ship. Paid the balance, got the unit and decided to sell it before it broke. Never mounted it on the M16.

He changed the name from Ares Defense to FlightLight in an attempt to avoid all the negative image from Ares.

There is also a 9mm beltfed upper, the FM-9 by Freedom Ordnance, that gets great reviews. https://freedomordnance.com/product/...6-elite-model/

There was also a .22 beltfed upper by Lakeside Machine. Had lots of issues as most .22 full auto guns. Looks like someone has taken the unit and started manufacturing again. http://www.gunbroker.com/item/707717046

Interesting to hear that side of the story.

If I did anything it would be a older Colt LMG upper on a modified lower and skip the belt feed altogether. The extra issues with a fed system and rigging it to work with a closed bolt become too much.

I have several RPKs which for me are a hoot to shoot and all I ever need.

I have an Colt/Diemaco LMG upper as well. Neat item. Very well constructed. Be careful not to get the Hessee knock-off as they are a piece of crap.

The 9mm unit is affordable to own and shoot, and is supposedly very reliable.

You want belt fed semi? Don't fuck around. However I don't think you are going to be able to get a bumpfire stock for it.

    https://fnamerica.com/products/rifles/fn-m249s/

Or OOWs M240, but their site now says out of stock.

I know nothing about AKs but was reading this thread and then saw this on the local gun board. Arsenal for $1,100.

    http://www.zidaho.com/category/315/R...4UR-Krink.html

WASR for $1,200 with ammo and extras.

Both too much, the Arsenal should be closer to $900 and the WASR should be $750. The slr104 would be a nice sbr candidate with a $200 tax stamp.

Thanks for looking out Conundrum but I don't live in a free state and cannot import AKs from other states. They have to have been registered here prior to our AG's most recent arbitrary ban. (July 2016)

and Scotty, try $1800-2000 for a VEPR/Arsenal and about $1600 for a WASR in MA

I guess you should look at it as an investment. Like auto weapons in this country they slowly increase in value so even though it's more expensive you aren't going to lose any money on it. Not like they are skis and skis eventually get tossed out.

Vibes DJ, get the heck out of that socialist state.

Guns are a tool, not an investment. If its some over embellished piece, that just ends up making it useless for its intended purpose.

People who do this piss me off as they artificially drive up prices on "tools" I would like to have.

Prohibition did not rid the country of alkeyhall but it did go a long way to grow organized crime.
