I have read that the SCAR 17 destroys scopes. You might want to drop $$$$ on top quality for it to last.

In other news ScottyB just picked up a mint M1903A3 Smith Corona with a mid range barrel date. Pics to come.

What ever optic you go with on the Scar, make sure it has a good warranty.

1.5 muzzle erosion gage reading and it will not close on the nogo.

Nearly all the SC A3s had S stocks but for some reason this one got a scant grip stock from the factory.

Very cool! Speaking of old bolt guns, a friend's neighbor had a Swiss K31 out the other day. I was sufficiently intrigued. Anyone have one?

I'm looking at a Jap Type 99 (7.7mm) that's on consignment nearby. Used to have a Spanish FR-8 that I was fond of.

Didn't Century arms have a bunch of FR8 for sale in the early 90's? IIRC they were trainers for the CETME and had detachable mags in addition to the other CETME features that made any rifle other than a bolt action rifle evil and therefore forbidden. Am I totally high?

No detachable mag, but they had the CETME sights, suppressor, and maybe a few other goodies.

A "How To" video. Legend is that Wayne smacked himself in the face when he tried it the first time.

    Moar info plz

I don't know how to build from an 80% lower, but I'm a fast learner. and my FFL told me he will import receivers for me, as MA defines a gun as "something which can fire a projectile" and the stripped lower as such doesnt fit the bill so technically "legal" for him to import and me to purchase

Its basically a full receiver that has the the lower rails welded, top rails trimmed, mag well and trigger openings done and the mag dimples done plus its fully heat treated. You drill the hammer and trigger pin holes, holes for the selector, holes for the rivets to the mag catch/trigger guard and the front and rear trunion rivet holes. The templates for locating the holes are also available. The 80% can be shipped to your house, no FFL.

Pair it with the kit of your choice plus a barrel and you have the ingredients for a home built AK. You will need one of the several books or watch a shit ton of utoob viddies on the subject. After that you wood be able to ask informed questions on one of several AK forums. There are tools you will need like a 12 ton press, a drill press and some rivet crushing tools ect. or you can send it all out to a reputable builder for a fee.

It aint easy but it aint hard. Do your home work and you may have a new hobby.
